You should try to find a compilation with the best moments of the show, like the infamous horse joke. Also, you should watch the first half of the ep. 60, since it is still pretty fresh.

Show was more organic and fun back in the hay day, but not sure how relevant the topics of discussion would be, if at all. There was a few week stretch I remember to be extremely painful; discussing a topic of esports drama for 20 minutes straight and so forth--everyone in the chat and in the thread begging Geoff or whoever to move on and be more lighthearted or actually talk about the game. The one episode Tasteless was on toward the end just to sit and listen to argumentative chatter whe whole time comes to mind as a huge missed opportunity, and let-down. I dno, just click on a random one and see if you like it.

I know this isn't the "JP Plays" thread and this sin't sc2 related, but take a look at these 2 videos: I found these after watching him play Super Meat Boy for a couple hours on his stream a week or so ago, but missed the end when he beat it. Watched these two videos and then finally, part 3 of 3...! fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Then I'd suggest going back to the earlier episodes, maybe around 10. The drunk episodes (24 and 60) and everything with Artosis is highly recommended. If you like those, just keep watching.

As a side-note, I recently listened to one of the very early episodes and it was so nice to hear Day9 take strong positions on things like balance. It makes sense that he doesn't do it anymore, considering how important his views are for a large part of the community, but going back to when he was more open reminded me of why he is so loved.

Plus, it doesn't particularly play to the show's strengths because JP can't be as active and the laid back atmosphere doesn't suit a serious strategy discussion. And tbh, most of the strategy talk is "trends" and explaining how they work/don't work. Sometimes there just isn't (enough) material that is interesting.

Bullshit. If day9 can find something game related to talk about for an hour or two 5 times a week I'm sure state of the game can find something to talk about for 30 minutes once a week. JP was a master random player and is a professional caster for mlg, he doesn't get enough credit for that. He knows stuff about the game, he's not a Sundance "I like the mariners" he plays the game at a reasonable level and spends a lot of his time in the community talking to pros and casting their games and should have earned enough respect from that to talk about the game he invests so much of his life in without fear of being belittled or ridiculed because he's not a top level professional player. I'm so tired of hearing this fabricated lie that keeps being perpetuated and insinuated over and over - that you can't understand the game at any reasonable level if you don't play it at least 8 hours a day. Unfortunately it's not just casual fans or amateur players spreading this idea, many professionals are serial offenders in this matter, i don't know if they feel the need to justify spending the vast majority of their life playing the game by holding the belief they have achieved some level of strategic enlightenment us mere mortals could only dream of or if they're just guarded against the people outside of the gaming community who are quick to trivialise their achievements. Either way this elitist attitude has got to go, it turns people off from playing the game and wards away potential fans. One of the beautiful things about Starcraft 2 is that why it is by no means and easy game to understand, it is also very difficult to play and execute strategies well. To compete at the highest level you have to have both a deep understanding of the game and the mechanical ability to play it proficiently but that doesn't mean you can't have one or the other if you're not competing at the highest level. I will concede that a professional player is more likely to have an understanding of the nuances of a game and a deeper pool of experience to draw evidence from but that shouldn't be an argument to keep people from discussing the game or sharing their opinions on how to play it. If you truly do have a deeper understanding of the game then you should be able to articulate an argument about why your style of play, or strategic theory is better without insulting the other person or attacking their credibility.

Most of Day9's dailies (that aren't funday monday monobattle newtue etc) focus on subtle playstyles/unique openers that aren't exactly new big wow what the fuck enough to be discussed enthusiastically between people who already know a lot of things (and play protoss). I'd rather have them discuss broader trends than small nuances; the aggressive PvZ that got day9'd would be a good one to discuss on SOTG rather than Kas going for a Trump Special.
