Sean has to stay neutral because the man has a very successful online show, you cant have him saying "Zergs should stop QQing", "All Terrans are bad players" and other such stuff. It would easily alienate many of his viewers who follow him solely for his "not takin it that seriously" crowd.
I dont want 5 of the same people on this show, we got JP the host, works for MLG, has no real backround in the pro scene from a playing level, you got Tyler a former BW pro who knows the history, you got Day9 also a former pro who is today a commentator and has a online show. Incontrol is in one of the biggest clans in SC2 (EG).
Then you have the special guest, people like Artosis (is in Korea has a different point of view), Idra (outspoken) and various people who all have a different angle on the show.
I dont want five Day9's being happy and never discussing anything, but i sure as hell dont want 5 Idra's screaming at each other

My criticism for the show at the moment, is that you talk about tournaments way too long. This is made worse by the way you go around every single person individually in an orderly fashion about their opinions on a certain matter.
"Tyler what do you think about group A in X tournament" "Geoff what do you think.............." "Dan what do you think............." "Guest A what do you think........" "Day[9] what do you think......."
"Tyler what do you think about group B in X tournament" etc... etc...
It just seems too robotic and topics can get overdiscussed. Let things roll out through everyone, then if someone is being notably quiet for a while on a topic, bring them in with an interuption so they can air their thoughts, if any.

this. when was the last time they had an in-depth discussion about the metagame, match ups or strategies? i'm not saying they shouldn't talk about tournaments or players, but it shouldn't be more than 50% of the content.

Well that format doesn't work when you have hosts that tend to share the same opinions also. The number of people on the show also makes this format hard to do because if one or two people talk for a minute or two each they'll likely make it to where anyone else opinion would be nothing more than an echo. Also refer back to the first sentence I typed.
Maybe if JP rotated the comments better by asking 2-3 people to give thoughts then had a silent one in the conversation it would work out better. Of course if the silent one on each round of topics had something to add then they should be allowed to. Picking a random silent for each round of discussion would be fair to everyone imo.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I have no problem with tournament talk in general, it's just the predictions that go way overboard imo.
I mean, most of their predictions end up being what most "ordinary" people predict anyway, you don't need to be a pro or involved with the scene at all to make the exact same predictions. And other than Artosis saying how someone's doing in Korea there's really no specific insight that we get from it. Surely there are more worthy topics for them to discuss.

Will there be a show this week?

Would be pretty bad with three Protosses and two non-pros who basically have little/no opinion on the metagame, matchups or strategies.
If you want discussion of that, they need more representatives of each races.

first of all im not even close to be a day9 hater. That is guy such a friendly and awesome person and has done so much for this community and i mean come on who doesnt love his daylies BUT! just because day9 is such a great person and has been in this scene forever doesnt mean that you are not alllowed to criticize him.
As I said before i love this guy but i also have the feeling that in past months he hasnt contributed much during the SOTG shows.the only time you really hear something from him is either when he gets one of his laughing outbursts or if he gets asked about something precisely for example tournaments or specific players.
Which leads to another thing that bothers me about day9 during STOG: his predictions or his view on players are always sooooooo general.saying that the player has "good decision making" or "great ressource management" but not going into details just isnt statisfing for me. i mean you could say those two statements about 90% of professional Sc2 Players.
So before you start ripping me apart,i just want to repeat that just because Day9 is a living legend doesnt mean that people who criticize have to be haters and that critism in general shouldnt be allowed.
btw: saying "you dont like day9? then dont watch the show!" is just stupid and nothing else

So much this. How about just asking everyone for their favorites to win and then maybe ask for particular players how they're going to do?

Day[9] talked about patch notes just as in depth as the other guys last time he was on the show. I don't see how you guys think he doesn't contribute to the show. He is a high level player in all 3 races. Maybe he doesn't compete but that's because he likes to teach and cast.
He can talk about anything that the other hosts talk about. He is just as knowledgeable as them. Sure you can constructively criticize him, like anyone else, but saying he doesn't contribute much is wrong. He contributes just as much in the current format of the show.
I don't mind the format they use, nor any of the hosts. We get a 2-3 hour show with the best personalities in the business for free every week. We're lucky as shit to say that. We don't have to pay for a TV bill or some special package to get it.
If you want more content based around the "metagame" or balance then start your own podcast for it. Just like everyone in the streaming business will tell you, just do it.
The show still attracts 8k viewers plus any vod/mp3 hits. Seems like it's a good enough format to me.

I don't think Day9 is anywhere near the level of Idra or Artosis what comes to knowing the intricate details of SC2. Its obvious when you listen them cast, Day9 prefers to talk about strategies on a more general level whereas Artosis and Idra can read and predict players strategies and describe the strengths and weaknesses of each build in a very detailed manner. Maybe Day9 could do the same but chooses not to, but I doubt it.
I'm not saying that Day9 cannot take part in discussion with these guys, but saying that they are all on the same level to what comes to knowledge of the game is imho not true.

The should talk about finished tournaments if they want to talk about tourneys that much. And by that I mean talk about the actual games. Especially, as you said, as everyone as usually the same opinion (which is shared by most of the viewers too, I mean it's normal). When they talk about patch notes they're talking about the game, and it's often the best segments.
Btw, is there an episode tonight ?
