This, I also find if I'm at some point in the game confused about what to do, my APM will drop significantly. I never really boost my APM artificially by spamming like a madman, after playing a game I'm usually more than warmed up enough. When I have a definite game plan and I know what I want, I find my APM stays much higher.
This may have been somewhere in the 1533 pages of this thread but after looking through it I can't find it.. Can anyone tell me what the music/song is that plays at the beginning screen before all the casters pop up? it seems like a sc remix song but I can't find that one anywhere.

I don't think I have ever heard someone that doesn't love DeMuslim
assuming he wants to ... he should be on every week
I'm reminded of one of Stevey's Rants regarding typing speeds, where he gets into how professional musicians practice. I've tried to trim it down, he puts a lot of words down. If you're into programming and enjoy long, long posts, I recommend him.
Here's how you train your fingers.
You start with a passage. Anything at all. At first it'll just be a single note. Later it'll become a few notes, a phrase, a measure, a couple of measures. Anything you're having trouble with and you want to master.
First you play the lick as fast as possible. You don't care about making mistakes! The goal of this phase is to loosen your fingers up. You want them to know what raw speed feels like. The wind should be rushing through their fingery hair! Yuck!
Next you play it as slow as necessary. In this pass you should use proper technique. That basically means "as proper as you can", because state-of-the-art technique is (a) constantly evolving and (b) always somewhat personal. You pick any discipline, they've got schools of thought around technique. There's no right answer, because our bodies all work a little differently. You just have to pick the technique that you like best and try to do it right.
.............
Whatever technique you choose, in the slow pass you don't care about speed AT ALL. You care about accuracy. Perfect practice makes perfect, and all that. You want your fingers to know what it feels like to be correct. Doesn't matter if it takes you 30 seconds per note. Just get it right. If you make a mistake, start over from the beginning, slower.
Finally, you play it "at speed". If you're practicing a musical instrument, you play it at the target tempo. You want your fingers to feel musical. Musicians generally agree that you don't want to make mistakes in this phase, or you're just practicing your mistakes. But realistically, most musicians are probably willing to make a few minor sacrifices here in the third pass, as long as the music shines through beautifully.
Let's call it 5 sacrifices a minute. That's what you're targeting.
Fast, Slow, Medium. Over and over. That's what they do. And it works!

Agreed, replace Day9 with Ben. Lets face it, Day9 is mostly there for his infectuous laughter anyway. He doesn't bring anything to the table when it comes to modern Starcraft.
Day9's input when it comes to Starcraft players: "Player XX is super nice, and also really really good."
Day9's input when it comes to GSL: "I didn't really watch the games, but my brother Nick surely did an awesome job casting this weekend."
Day9's take on game balance: "Generally I don't want to discuss game balance because there is no balance in a game until its been out for 10 years like Broodwar, and all the strategies have been cemented. Also I don't want to give a strong opinion about anything, because I don't want to upset anyone. Everything is a rainbow."
sotg isnt about having the absolute perfect panel for balance discussion, its about having people who know pretty much everything about the game as it stands at the moment.
otherwise you'd have jp, one protoss, one zerg and one terran who all play professionally and probably no casters. i like the mix of a couple of players and a couple of casters, you get different ends of the spectrum from actual mechanics and tactics to crazy amounts of knowledge about games so numerous you'd need a brain like an encyclopedia to remember them all.
its also about a group of friends coming together and working off each other for a good conversation about sc2, maybe people dont always contribute to every discussion but it doesnt mean replacing them. how many times have you see tyler sit there with his semi drunk whisky grin and not say anything for an hour because he's happy to listen in or jp not actually host/moderate the show because theres some crazily detailed discussion of mechanics go on between two or three of the five member panel for 30 minutes (because he knows its not needed).
just look what djwheat does, he's got his balanced show with one of each race (when they stay connected to skype ) and another show thats just 'hey everyone lets have a chat about sc2, anything goes'....sotg tries to be a little of both
sotg isnt your tv sports discussion panel show where everything has to be perfectly balanced or the bitchy public pick up the phone...just because some people dont 'fit the mold' doesnt mean they need replacing, sotg works so well because its something you can imagine taking place between a few mates who are discussing their favourite game with webcams and a structure thrown in.
and ill add one more thing, sotg...I FUCKING LOVE YOU GUYS *wipes away emo tear*

And this is why i hate day9 he never brings anything to the table (I don't hate him as person, but as a panelist who is on a podcast about the STATE OF THE GAME)
NOTE this above statement is my opinion. no need for you to go ape**** over one persons opinion

Meh, This is why I like state of the game. day9 doesn't talk sometime. tyler doesn't talk unless it's protoss related cause the rest of the shit he doesn't really care about. Thats what makes it special. It's a bunch of friends(who r pros as well) just talking about what they love/hate. If they wanna talk about horses they can damn well talk about horses for 30 minutes cause it's awesome. they have an "agenda" that they follow so they dont run out of shit to talk about but they have a hard time even following that which just makes it all the more entertaining and not all "roboty"

Yeah - going to echo this sentiment. State of the Game is at its best when there is friction and good discussion and I feel like Day9 tends to be way to moderate about anything and everything for this show. People with strong views and good articulation of those views are the best type of people for SotG.
