Imagine you have a sports team (bear with me...). You don't have any players yet. You have a few coaches/staffmembers and a club house. You have mere minutes to manage the funds and build the facilities that can support and draft a balanced team of players, making sure you can account for any situation or position in the given sport. You then meet the other team in a match against their players, only your players are total idiots, they can't think on their own at all, they can barely even walk from one point to another point when you tell them to; you have to tell them exactly what to do and how to do it at all times. And instead of using some ball/stick related thing based on goals or points, you just have to friggin KILL the other team. But not just kill them, you have to completely obliterate them and remove them from all existence so that they cannot possibly ever contest your team again. When you kill the players you then proceed to kill their club house and locker room and stadium and all their managers/staff-members and family members who may possibly spawn more players of the opposing team. Thats how i always thought of it anyways ![]()

I think Starcraft is closer to American football. There is both a mental component and physical component. The mental part is the playcalling, which is done by the coordinators (macro), and the players have to execute the plays given to them (micro). In football, you can call the perfect plays every time, but it doesn't matter if your receivers can't catch passes and your linemen can't block. Similarly, if your players are executing the called plays correctly, but you always run the ball up the middle, you're not going to win a lot of games. You even have cheese in football (fake punts/field goals, wildcat, statue of liberty plays, etc.). So Starcraft is basically like being all 11 guys at once on your team and the playcallers. There's elements of this in a lot of team sports, but I think football illustrates it the clearest.
