Laddering is an experience, its like going out into the wilderness and surviving against all different kinds of situations. Over time you WILL get better. However if you don't ladder, in a short time there will be all new sorts of strategies that you will not learn, and you will only fall behind. Think of laddering as a practice. Like the posts above, you are nobody, and no one will care who you are. It's only when you face people who knows you then you become some body. So, you should ladder to be prepared for those situations where people actually know who you are (friendly 1v1? in-house tournament?). But in everyday laddering, no one gives a smack. Just play.

I play 3's and 4's with my friends so much, but I never can play and 1v1. I am 8-3 in platinum, and I also think I can keep a good win ratio up, but I just don't want to risk losing any games for some reason. It's like I want to be the best, so I can't lose any games, and if I play any games, I might lose them. :<

The person that looks for a shortcut is not a true professional. There is no shortcut to becoming the greatest progamer. Same can be said for truly improving as a SC2 enthusiast ![]() Read some: http://boxerbiography.blogspot.com/

1v1s tend to give (me at least) more jitters because its all on one individual versus another. if i lose, its because the other player did something better or more effectively, and not because 12 marauders stimmed up my ramp while my CC was getting focused down by 4 void rays - something i would just shrug off and be like, 'oh well, thats stupid. forget that.' but no matter what the case, focus in on the fact that win or lose, you're going to get better at the game. even if you take some of the other advice in this topic like 6 pooling and proxy gating, your micro will improve. if you sit in your base and turtle up a ton of defense because youre scared of attacking your opponent, (hopefully) your macro will improve. some people prefer Lz-style gaming where they will just game after game after game, boom boom boom play play play no stopping in between, and some people prefer Trump-style gaming where they will take a short break after each game and think about what happened. I would suggest for you the slower, methodical style of looking at each game afterwards and analyze your own play a bit. its pretty soothing and can also help you improve your play :D both styles have their benefits, so just do whatever makes you comfortable and just try to enjoy as much of the game as you can.

I can't bring myself to play that much because of 'rage' issues but team games are often fun, but since your problem is just playing, I recommend what everyone else has said: Play team games, they are fun as hell and if you lose, it's ALL the other guys fault ![]()

[B] Also, JUST GO PLAY. Just say "fuck it". THIS - even if you lose 20 times in a row - you will reach a point where it onl will get better confidence is a nice thing to have

T_T Unlike iccup you can't just create another account to play around with or try a different race. Did blizzard mention if there will be ladder resets on a regular basis? I can't find the source ATM, but I seem to recall Blizzard saying there will be "ladder seasons", a la warcraft 3. Ladder seasons, of course, indicate stat resets prior to each season (while still keeping your overall record, icons, and silly achievements, etc. in your profile) Sooooooo stop caring so much and go play! Do some ridiculous shit. Hell, you might even win. Then you'll know it's not all about being the perfect executor of build orders etc. Also, sure there are some top players who are amazing in stats (take HuK for example, who was ~100-25 last I checked), but there are also some top diamond players who are around 150-100, just mass gaming. If you sit at 5-0, you'll be a noobie forever. JUST PLAYYYY. Hell, you might even incorporate some ridiculousness into your normal gameplay. Just go ONLY reapers one game. Soon you'll learn when the proper time to STOP making them is, and you have a viable opening. Really desperate? Go request a 1 week ban from a mod (oh they WILL indulge, believe me) so you can't post on these forums for a week. Then you'll have no choice but to play!!!
