Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
What I'm wondering and maybe some other informative TL user can explain me why there isn't any weekly maintenance like WoW. Don't get me wrong I like it if there are no long weekly scheduled maintenances like WoW has :p but I'd expect the same thing with sc2 or is it simply due to the fact that there isn't a huge playerbase yet?
Or is there a weekly schedule for maintenance's like wow on wednesday (for Europeans) and the week isn't over yet ?
Sc2 with it's battle.net 2.0 is a whole different server system. I'd say there are a lot of servers in which each work with the games, chat, etc. and in WoW there is one server for each realm, and it has to get updated and get cleaned of stuff, so there are no lags. Maybe Blizzard can "clean" the sc2 servers on the fly, which couldn't be possible for the WoW server.
I think Zerg MBS should be fixed for balance. Right now if you select 2 hatcheries or 2 evo chambers it does not properly divide the upgrades or the queen production between the two.
Hmm, weird, I think 1v1 placement might take into account your other leagues. Example:
I just played this guy. And he was actually pretty decent, I assumed he was high plat/low diamond in 1v1 during the game.
Anybody else experienced anything like this? or was this just a fluke? (lol I got +2 for beating him)

I know what you are saying, but I don't know if I agree. Its not hard to just queue upgrades for each individually. Even if Blizz does want to change this, it definitely shouldn't be a top priority. How often do you want to research 2 things at once and you don't have enough time to click on a different hatchery before selecting the second upgrade. Not very often I'd wager.
Now I DEFINITELY agree with this. Not having played the campaign, I might be ignorant of this, but do you really need F2-F7 for heroes? Hell, Do you even need any F keys for heroes? Who the hell plays maps with heroes in them, and even knows about the hero hotkeys, much less uses them.

thing is, if they want to keep those for heroes, just free them up for multiplayer. ez game : ) I hope all TL members who own SC2 post their support for this as there really are zero negative effects of having this happen.
Posted as well. Since there are no heroes in multiplayer, and very few in single player (you have hero units in what, 1/8th of the missions?), they should just make it an option in the editor for when people make custom games.

It's clearly a carry-over from WC3. Hero's were the single most important aspect of any multiplayer game, so it made total sense to have these hot-keyed to F keys. But I would agree that there is no reason to use these keys for heros in SC2. Why Blizzard cannot just give us a built-in hot key editing system I will never know. $100 million in development, and I can't change hotkeys.
There seem to be alot of these issues with SC2 though. Has anyone else had issue with the text in Bnet chat menus? I play on a laptop with a smaller screen so it would be really nice to be able to make this larger...
I really dislike Ghosts in SC2 (because I'm a protoss player obv) and I know a lot of people share my opinion that they are OP. I had an idea that EMP should not deal "damage" to the shields but rather just "change" the value to 0. This is a very soft nerf and it would still make EMP a great skill. Does any1 agree with me?
I'm unsure about the galaxy editor terminology but in wc3 the difference would be Damage/HP removal I think..
If that is the way it works right now... then I'm stupid ^_^
Just wondering, is it possible to start ladder from the very bottom without losing matches on purpose?
I'm not the best player out there, didn't play Beta, and on SC1 I never played online but I am familiar with the game and most of it's mechanics. I just beat the single player campaign, and now been playing against the Hard AI to practice my timing and such.
So yeah, I haven't even played a single B.net game in the fear of either being insanely owned, or being placed too high in the leagues based on few games and then just losing all the games from there on. I'd rather work my way up from the bottom and feel some sort of sense of achievement when going up in the ranks :D
And another thing..if I were to start on B.net now, about what rank (bronze-silver-gold etc.) equals to Hard AI difficulty? Impossible to say without generalizing a lot, but a rough estimate would be nice :p I can beat the AI most of the time and am still learning..
This may sound like a stupid question but how do I play free for all? On the multiplayer quick match screen all I have is options for 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4?
anybody from NA that bought SEA version? just wanted to know how it is.. i mean is it tooo laggy? i want to know based on somebody's experience how it was.. im currently here in CA using comcast.. please somebody let me know cause i really need to check if i need to get SEA or NA versions. thanks much in advance

I would say gold/platinum would be hard AI difficulty. Battle.net is no where close to iccup. If you decided build units off of more than one gateway your practically in Gold.
At the Platinum level, people have a shaky grasp of the mechanics, can deal with dumb cheeses like cannon rushes. However, they can't handed tech switches as well, and don't expand as needed.
Of course, it's always fun to fail your placements. Get placed low, and ROFLstomp people 2 leagues ahead of you.

I'm ranked in gold.
When I play Hard AI, I usually beat it no problem. Very Hard beats me a little less than half of the time. So I'd call Very Hard around Gold.
This isn't topic worthy, but I wanted to ask and have been receiving a lot of WTFs about it lately.
I am a Zerg player I hate metalopolis.
People say it's the zerg favored map, but I think this is a fabricated myth. 1/3 of the layouts suck for zerg. Being vertical positions is absolutely terrible for expanding. Worse than any other map in the pool except maybe DO. Then on top of that the main is a wide open layout with no real choke. Defending it vs timing pushes with spine crawlers is really difficult and will easily run you a couple hundred extra minerals at the very least.
I also notice this in top players. Mid beta every zerg would counter-pick metalopolis. Later in the beta I noticed it much less so with Zerg picking maps like Steppes of War instead. Perhaps it was because of things like downvoting a map, but typically I'd expect maps like Kulas & DO to be down voted.
I remember when someone published win % for each race on each map based on ladder data. Metalopolis was one of the lowest win %s for zerg. Later revised data had it at an even win %, but it still seems like it's no better than the other maps for zerg.
Anyways not topic worthy, but I felt the need to shout that I'm a zerg player and I hate playing on metalopolis.
What are peoples thoughts on the two new ladder maps?
Personally I like the 4 player one, but really dislike the 2 player one. Both of them have increadibly open naturals, but at least on the 4 player one you can destroy the rocks and take that base as your first expo if you want.

See my above comment really. Open naturals seem pretty zerg unfriendly, but the 4 player map at least has that other expansion and the natural really close to the ramp.
is there a way to hide from friends or ignore all there msg like dnd command? its really annoying that only i want to watch replays and friends are all spamming messages or while in game. damn

Also, I think storms need a nerf and so do collosus, When the game is over, I decide to click on the collosus to see how mad I get, usually they have 20+ kills each, I was ahead the whole game and then they make 6 collosus and I get rolled. As for storm, they need to reduce either the size or have the same damage but longer duration..
can anyone tell me if its just me or EU bnet(lobby) works terribly slow just to log in i had to try 4 times and it took like a minute and now it dosent display my profile and when i want to start multi game it takes like a minute to load buttons and then error ocours (i can play single and watch replays)

Xel-Naga caverns is even worse =/.
I know what you mean, if you check out the competitive stats for the Beta, TLPD (http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-beta/maps/379_Metalopolis) TvZ is 66% (35-18) and ZvP is 39.5% (17-26)
So, during beta at least, metalopolis was definitely not a zerg map. (TLPD only has 1 game on metal since release).
Anyone know if you can remove those annoying menu tabs at the top left of the screen. A lot of times I'll end up clicking on the 'help' tab in the middle of a hectic game. It never helps :[
Those Metalopolis stats are surprising, I'm primarily a Zerg player and I love Metalopolis. I usually macro up and steamroll my opponent on that map. Same goes for Blistering Sands.
Perhaps these maps just don't promote aggressive play. Lately I've been playing a lot safer and just focusing on my macro and building enough units to defend until I've maxed out at 200.
Are there going to be 'seasons' on Battle.net 2.0 similar to iccup? I've been playing to win up until now, but i want to do a bit of experimenting which means im probably going to lose a ton of games. I don't mind if it's just for a few weeks/months, but if it's for the next 10 years id rather not lose a thousand games for no reason. I know I can play custom games, but people generally aren't as good there so it would defeat the purpose.
Is the ladder system still flawed? Because I won 4 of my 5 game placements and ended up in Platinum but i'm really bad (No, I didn't begin playing games as of post time). Played 3 of them as Protoss and the last 2 as Zerg... unless Platinum doesn't mean much anymore if compared to Gold and below.

Everyone is garbage until 300~ diamond. If you want placed in a lower league, lose your games.

Agree with straaange ladder system... I was low in copper and lost most games then suddenly won one cus he dropped out and placed in gold (somehow??) were i started to win alot more... =_= dont make sense
Probably because he's played on average better players in the games he has won and/or lost in than the people underneath him with better wins and such. That means he gets higher points when winning and lower points when losing. That would be the most logical answer except hacks.

You probably played higher ranked people in bronze so when you lost you didn't lose as much of you hidden points (that are there to help calculate your skill level) and when you won you still had enough of the points to get promoted. I've once lost 7 games in a row before winning one and getting bumped up from silver to platinum.
I have a question -- in a youtube replay (I can't remember which) I saw of a Protoss player, he had his pylons configured so instead of having a big blue circle which faded towards the edges, there were white circles similar to the tank's range indicators. When I play Protoss (and it's my main race), overlapping pylons cause a slight drop in FPS. It's minor, but it's enough to throw me off by half a second or so. Needless to say, this adds up over time.
Which graphics option would switch the standard blue circle stuff to the tank-like white range indicator?
hey guys, just a question, when you playing ladder as random, do you still get "points" (achivment/portrets) if you win with that race you have randomed like in the beta? i haven't played ladders yet cuz im playing campaign atm. thx

I didn't mean to imply you were dense or anything.
Random chance probably. Maybe playing on times when most good players are playing. Playing in a division with many good players (assuming the ladder system takes that into account in some way). Hacks. Pick one.

Hi I'm new to teamliquid and i would like some tips in ZvZ, i'm in gold league and get cheesed a lot and i tend to have some really standard play(like 14 pool extractor) in order to be stable. Any video streams would also be appreciated.
I've got a question... I played a 2v2 custom today and I countered one of the guys attacking my teammate and destroyed his entire base and every building he had (checked replay as well) but he still remained in the game. Is this a new change to SC2 that I never read about? That you can stay in game in a 2v2,3v3,4v4 as long as your teammates have buildings up?

Yes! in fact you can make him usefull and give him control of your units.
I'vw also got a question--how do you stop zerg from droning in the early mid-game, basically right after thier expo hatch finishes. They just plant 2 spines and drone up to hell. As protoss the problem is that I can't move out because of if the zerg is cheesing or being very aggressive (mass speedling), my army will just get raped on the spot.

If the zerg is just turtling up hard, feel free to grab an expo. 2 base toss is extremely scary as zerg. If you'd rather maintain aggression, warp prism antics are extremely effective. If you don't have a couple of immortals to drop yet, just load one up with 4 zealots and after you drop them switch to phase mode and warp in some more. Just be careful not to lose your prism to a queen or spore crawler.

I always end up in bronze league during my qualifiers. Don't know why, I always just get screwed over. T_T It will lag, or I'll get six pooled the one time I don't wall off. Ect. ect.
Don't want to create a full thread because it's nothing special, but me and some friends are running a makeshift weekly(if it goes well) tourney, league. It's just for fun, you don't get anything from playing as of yet besides bragging rights but if it gets off the ground we'll see what we can do. Check my documents/starcraft 2/accounts/etc. But it is actually possible to open the reply by just opening the file, windows should have it associated with SC2 by default. And if you're in need of decompression software, look no further than 7zip. It works with everything and is open source to boot.

Here is an existential (not really) question for you: Why can't you attack enemy air units with your scv when you can repair you own? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

I have wondered this for ages.....
Some interesting info on the ladder system(don't know if this is already known) When I started out in Bronze after some bad placements (1-4) I started winning about 80% of matches against Bronze/Silver, on the 3rd day after release I played about 12-15 matches and all but 2-3 were against opponents of gold or higher. I lost all but 4~ matches but was till promoted to Silver at some point.
My conclusion is that once you achieve a certain level of success in a lower league the system matches you with people of all levels to judge your performance and change your league accordingly.
Battle.net tries to match the games fairly between the players that way you have a good match going on. When you get placed in the proper division/league , you will be playing people around your skill level. Now from there , if you win games vs people higher than you or the same level , you move up in ranking , and possibly in the Division.

Storm and Collossi are the most important weapon protoss has, without them Protoss would suck ass in both matchups. Your claim is equivalent to someone saying "Please nerf storm" in SC1 "it totally rapes all my hydras and all my marines". And storm was even more powerful in that game. If you were ahead the whole game then why didnt you scout properly and prepare for them with vikings?
Btw. feedbacking ghosts is way harder than EMPing, when the enemy has lots of marines you can barely even spot the ghost, then you need to click on the exact unit unlike EMP and you have to hope you somehow get it off without your HT dying to Siege Tanks. When the Ghost is cloaked it gets even worse. I'm NOT saying that ghosts need to be nerfed though, but I also dont really get what he means by change value to 0, I mean I dont see the difference.

Daylings VOD is pretty funny
+1 on the F-Keys, PLEASE bring them back there is no reason whatsoever not to
Personally I never once used the F-keys for heroes even during campaign and not even when I played SC2- DOTA some days ago. There's no need whatsoever when you basically have nothing but heroes and no army anyways. double tapping "1" is closer than tapping F2. Seriously, why is Blizzard so stubborn sometimes

If EMP 'changed' the shield value to 0 rather than 'damaging' it to 0 it would start to recharge instantly. That way it could add an extra hit or two worth of health onto each unit (like how Zerg units always take an extra hit due to regeneration).
Unless I just completely misinterpreted what he meant.

Assuming you main Zerg...
Select a pool timing that comfortably covers the most common cheeses you experiences, as well as allowing for a good economy going into the mid game. You should also be able to stretch out your build (by pulling drones, microing lings etc) to cover unexpected forms of cheese. As long as you can just pull through an attack with decent drone numbers then you will almost always come off even or ahead.
A scout between 9 and 12 supply is also a good way to go (map dependent).
Here's some to try: 12 pool 13 gas, 12 pool 14 gas, 14 pool
Those are all reasonably cheese proof builds, though just how cheese proof really depends on how well you can manage crises. The best advice is really just to fiddle until you find a build that suits you.
Also, don't be tricked into thinking that you HAVE to have a second hatch down before 20 supply as Zerg. I thought this for a long time, and certain strategies would screw me over every time. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding the viability of 1 base Zerg. Try it before you buy it is all I have to say.

If EMP 'changed' the shield value to 0 rather than 'damaging' it to 0 it would start to recharge instantly. That way it could add an extra hit or two worth of health onto each unit (like how Zerg units always take an extra hit due to regeneration).
Unless I just completely misinterpreted what he meant.
oh right that makes sense. Ye personally I would be happy with that change, its small enough and at least lets immortals take one tank shot before they become useless.
I doubt blizzard is that worried about TvP balance atm though. It's a pretty good matchup atm imo.
Oh one more thing though. I'm mostly a protoss player, but please remove roaches not being able to move below force fields, that's just dumb :/ it makes the game more interesting when it's possible.

Actually you get both. If you play 30 games as random as say, win 10 as protoss and 10 as terran and 10 as zerg, you'll get the 4 reward portraits.

Just played a 2v2 where a player did the same wall in as Silver did vs IdrA (or HuK? Not sure which..Maybe both) where he put his wall at the bottom of the ramp (there was also a post about it a couple months back where everyone decided it was a shit idea). I asked him if he got the idea from Silver, and he said yes. Of course, I proceeded to kill his wall with the giant concave that type of wall-in can give you.
My question is... Are people really this stupid? The number of flaws in that type of wall-in are obvious and numerable (easy concave, no high ground advantage, no space for defending units on ramp, gotta lift buildings to leave etc). How can people actually just copy a good player's build without any thought behind it? I scoffed at Silver the second he laid that wall down, and I assumed everyone else would be too.
Seriously, people need to THINK before copying builds/strategies.
Actually it's quite a good thing to do provided the map allows for it to be useful.
On metalopolis for instance, place your buildings down & throw a bunker or two in the vicinity. It will cover both your grounds and a reasonably wide area around your expansion.
The opponent usually won't magically pull 20 units out of his ... to harass you, it provides a really good defense and even more allows you to actually get ahead. In front of such a massive wall most people will not second-guess and just think "huhu, he made wall there imma make air unitz n come from the back"; 99% of the times when I use this strategy it's what happens and the opponent usually rages that i'm a maphacker for having "seen" his air units when it's just a silly 10 IQ points conclusion.

Anyway, that's all I had to say.
Imo it does give an advantage to the playstyle silver was using. I definitely agree that the buildings should be moved back any other time, but when your gameplan is to sit on the zergs face the entire game with a very anti ground army, the lower walloff can provide the same amount of high ground advantage, space for your 5 or so rines, and a faster and more efficient defense for busts while extending your "zone" into your nat a bit..

I disagree, but anyway that's not the point. My point was that people shouldn't just blindly follow builds that they see in VODs. In the case I encountered it it lost him the game. Just because someone 'good' does it, doesn't mean it's actually good. If you don't understand the reasoning behind something, don't do it until you do.

dont think this deserves its own thread... my bro and I are looking for another decent 2s team to play against- were 12-2 on the ladder (well 12-3 but 1 is disconn). Blizzard changed the folder in order to make everything way more complicated
it's in c:\users\yourname\documents\Starcraft II\Accounts\28951080215(meaning some random number varying for each account)\some more random numbers and letters\Replays
If you plan on putting in replays there often I suggest you make a desktop shortcut..
I know it largely depends on the situation, but: 1. Generally how many Corrupters should i make per Colossus in ZvP? And also: 2. If the opponent has Stalkers (let's face it, he will have), if they are A-moved, will they attack the air or the ground units? 3. Is it worth it to suicide a bunch of them, in order to kill as many Colossi as possible before sending in the ground army?
I wasn't sure if I should post this in the replay section or general discussion so I'm sorry if I picked wrong.
Basically, I just met a maphacker, and although I'm not sure if this is still news (seen drophack before, but not maphack), I was wondering if there's a place to report hacks to Blizzard. Browsing their website a bit only leads to me to an outdated site for WoW hackers.
Replay in that link, note how his camera shifts to my main (without scouting) and to my proxy stargate around 3:50, 4:25, 4:50 and 5:15. Even though I won the game, I was curious afterwards if he somehow scouted it, that's why I got suspicious.

Just found out Siegetanks are responsible for positional imbalances on any map, because the siegetanks in a tvt, that attack from the right site, do not need to turn there cannons to fire - this gives a slight advantage when both player siege up at the same time, anyone else noticed this?

What are the chances that both players will siege up at exactly the same time within range of each other with vision of each other and the outcome of the entire game depends on who gets the first shot off?

14 pool = when you have 14 supply you make a spawning pool
16 hatch = when you have 16 supply after making the spawning pool you make the hatchery

It just means that you make drones until you have 14 supply, then make 3 more until you're at 16 supply and drop your expansion. It's called a fast expansion, or a FE build. It's very risky and requires good scouting. 2 gateways, reaper/bunker rushes or mass zergling/baneling will punish you for it very hard, but if you can survive the long term reward can be more than worth it. If you want to try it out, do it on scrap station or cross positions on metalopolis until you get a feel for what's safe, and don't be afraid to lose a few times doing it. The lower leagues are a great place to learn. Apologies if you're not in the lower leagues, I just assume you are based on the question.
Unrelated: I just came off a 5 game losing streak, boo hoo. At least they were all really good, close games where very small mistakes on my part just caught up to me in the long run. Still feels lousy though.

supply total or supply used?
You can't really have 14 total since you start at 10 and then each overlord gives you + 8. So when your food is at 14/18 you start building the spawning pool and when you are at 16/18 you start the hatchery. There are some useful tutorials and commentaries on youtube and other places were you can watch zerg players. It often easier to just watch how they do it than try get all numbers down first.

Just some weird theory crafting that I came up with about nukes, very unlikely to be useful but I would think it would be funny just to try and use.
1) Launch a nuke at literally nowhere right before an attack. The other player will try to spot the nuke but you will have launched it where he can't see the player will look for a dot but of course won't find it. Hopefully they'll be distracted or mess up, if not they still might watch the replay to find out what you were trying to nuke.
2) Nuke a spot behind their army where they don't have vision cutting off retreat when you attack or if you're lucky actually hitting their army. Seems incredibly difficult and you would need an army that could force theirs to retreat.
3) Use a nuke to clear the way for an advance. Nuke their front door area, they will hopefully retreat back, then move your tanks or army into position, then before the nuke goes off kill your own ghost.
Does anyone else think toxicity is an absolutely garbage map?
I just played a 4v4 on this. I was zerg and spawned in the bottom right corner. I couldn't do jack all because a protoss parked his void ray army just to the right (where the island expo is) and out of reach of my hydras. It was far too late in the game in the switch to mutas in any sufficient numbers to take on the void rays, nor could i get a nydus off there because of the fact.
I couldn't move my hydras away in any sufficient numbers to help my allies because the protoss would just move in and attack. So fucking stupid.
I rush speedlings and send 12 of them into my protoss opponents base, rape his stalkers, go into his probe line. I have 9 speedlings vs all his probes, it's a guaranteed win for me. Then windows decides to be the shittiest piece of shit that ever shat past a shitting parlor and shut down my computer for fucking updates for windows security I dont EVEN USE so I get a loss and lose like 6 ranks in my division for no reason.
i have a question about promotion to diamond, so me and my mate are 24-4 now and stuck on plat 1 and we beat tons of high diamond players. i read that u need 7 loses to get promoted in 1on1, cauthonluck had this problem aswell obviously. so is that the same for the other modes aswell?

1) I don't think the slight distraction would be worth it in most cases. Probably it's best to attack at the same time you are launching the nuke at a mineral line or something like that.
2) I've seen some pros do pretty much this (or tried to). It is very hard to execute though.
3) I thought you could cancel a nuke? Maybe just let it land and then move in. You won't win much ground by killing the ghost anyway imo.
so, two things really, thing one: I'm super new here on the team liquid forums, so I'm not sure exactly were to post ect. ect. also i haven't been following any of the posts, so I'm not sure if this has been discussed somewhere else already.
Thing 2, my actually reason for posting. Ive been watching lots of Starcraft 2 games, mostly casted by HD/Husky/and Day9, and have seen TLO use planetary fortresses late game now and then.
So i thought to my self, hm, the only time Ive ever messed with them was when i tried teching to one, getting the money for one and lifting and landing my CC in the other guys base as a weird rush thing.......that doesn't really work.
So Ive been trying to come up with other neat ways to use them, ya there expensive, ya there THE most immobile thing i could possible build, but it feels like a part of T i just haven't used. Also there are 2 decent upgrades for them, +1 rng, and +2 armor. On paper that makes a pretty mean "tower" 1500, 5 armor, rng 7, 40 aoe damage, speed 2. for 550m, 150 gas. also pretty easy to hide SCV's behind to repair.
OK trying to avoid starting every sentence with "SO." My few thoughts of ways to use them: rush one out as part of a wall covering your natural, rush one out as part of a contain near the bottom of ur opponents ramp, blocking/turning large spaces on some maps into chokes.
I don't consider my self very good or terribly imaginative, so i thought id throw the idea out here for you guys to tear apart and explain in detail why its stupid, and maybe, just maybe come up with an actually good use for them, it feels like there should be something, and the upgrades are there to make them pretty scary.
why is it that every high-level protoss-player seems to rely on spamming pylons throughout the map and wouldn't build a warp prism? especially in PvT where the robo is only used for observers and early immortals against marauders? I found bringing a warp prism along with my army and constantly being able to warp in new troups where I stand extremely helpful; furthermore in mid/lategame warping in two high templar in/behind my opponent's mineral line is a very strong harass
wow. to follow up on something I said earlier in this thread...
I just analyzed all of my replays with SC2Gears. Apparently, I've won all of my match-ups against protoss on Metalopolis. Against terran it's almost even.
Now I'm a bit embarassed to say it, but I'm not sure exactly why my ZvP is so good on this map. I'm a gold player, rank 15 or so.
Anyone have some insight into why this map is so bad for protoss?
Opkoad: Metalopolis is concidered somewhat zerg favored. The expansions are placed in a half moon figure, meaning thats its quite easy for zerg to get 3+ bases and defend them. As for protoss its quite hard to get a lot of bases on this map and defend them all, especialy against Zerg with speedlings.
If this is a bit vague just look up a cast from HDstarcraft on youtube with a zerg on Metalopolis, he usealy mentiones the importance of the expansions on this map.

Sort of one of those Too good to be true sort of patch notes. But as Blizzard said they would do "bigger" updates more rarely- rather than small patches often when the game hit retail it could be plausible.
All in all i think most of the updates are very plausible. The things that i feel is somewhat suspicious is the Nest ability, but even that is somewhat plausible actually. The planet fortress buff scares me a bit though - But then again Blizzard likes statistics and they probably see that people use orbital command much more often than planet fortresses and decided to buff it.
I don't think blizzard would use a community term like "Fazing" in patch notes instead of just saying what it does since 99% of starcraft 2 players will have never heard of it.
Fake. Written by unknown Zerg player. Blizzard is too mindful that each balance change has many, many side effects. These changes have blatant disregard for those side effects.
I am quite certain "Patch Notes 1.1.0" is fake. However, like others have said before, most* of the changes presented seem plausible if not welcomed. I wonder what will change in the first batch of patch(s). Should we be talking about this? At least considering the likely possibilities of what will change? I think at this point, we can safely assume that the power of each race will undergo a dramatic paradigm shift.
* = Things like the Nest ability, Psi-Storm revealing cloaked units, and pocket-change Planetary Fortresses buff all seem utterly outrageous.
Anyone experiencing insane 4v4 queue times? My teammate and I queued up for 4v4 and waited 30 minutes, several times in a row, and never got a game. 3v3 and 2v2 were fine! What could cause this?

Back in first phase of beta there were some toss players doing this against zerg to warp in units for the mid game push in zotac cup. I had people do it against me on asia server.
With all of the "X is OP, nerf Y" threads going around, especially pertaining to ZvT lately, I was reminded of this amazing article that Liquid'Drone wrote concerning BW's balance compared to SC2:
I really want to get this article out there again for everyone to read when considering and discussing balance changes, because I think it hits the nail right on the head about why BW was so fun and interesting. I want SC2's balances and changes to go in that direction as well, because I truly feel like continuous nerfs will only make the game more stale and not fun to play.
right, I have a stupid question. I've signed up for a tourney (and lost, badly) but I couldn't figure out how to talk to someone who wasn't already a friend, or who's id I didn't know to add a friend. I've gotten messages from random people near me in my ladder.
I was continually lied to by a BWCL.de admin named FunKiwi. He told me that we had to play the 2v2 first before our 1v1's, which made our 2v2's and 1v1's take over 3 hours because no1 playing in the 2v2 could 1v1. Anyway I asked him if he would allow the other team to take a W/O over us in 1v1 matches if our player had to leave. Then in our ace match me vs. their terran, I was tied 1-1 and explained that sense the match was running on 3 1/2 hours and I had to leave that we would pp like he said. However at this point he does a 180 and says, sorry no PP. FunKiwi is a Horrible Admin, a Viscous Liar, and someone not to be trusted. Thanks for reading, Sheth
@nihoh - Thank you for your reply. That method was one that I was already aware of. I am looking for a way to contact people who are neither on my friends list, nor have I played against already.
Lets say I sign up for a tourny. My first round match is against bobo. how the frack do I contact this person to set up our match? I've gotten messages in game from people I'm supposed to be playing, but have no idea how they sent it to me.

Let roaches and infestors move under cliffs while burrowed, as the other two races already have units that can jump cliffs. Maybe even let roaches move under buildings, just have their movement speed really reduced while under them. Don't allow them to stop under them though.

Don't you see why it's such a bad idea? Just think how easy it is for a zerg to mass roaches.
Random thought; Wouldn't a button that lets you control the camera with your mouse when held down not only be useful but improve micro for most players?
Example: You are kiting with hellions, but you soon realise that you have to move out far to the right, now you either have to move your pointer to the very edge of the screen or you have to let your hotkeys go and use your arrow keys.
Then wouldn't a system where you press spacebar or any button of your choice (or blizzards choice to be correct) let you keep your pointer in the same location on the screen but when it's pressed down you move the camera and not the pointer with the mouse?
I have a question about the editor. I'm trying to make a map and every time i launch the map in sc, the team set-up is 5v3. It is supposed to be 2v6. Are there any options other than Map > Player Properties, Team Placement etc, that would cause this?
I can't really find any answers on TL regarding this on active threads, how do you advance from gold>plat>diamonds etc? Advance to #1 in your division or win alot how the heck does it work?
Your starting rank seems all to be based on the first 5 games, I got Plat in 1v1,3v3,4v4 but gold in 2v2 because I lost the 5th game so does that mean I will be stuck on gold in 2v2 forever?
Edit: Nvm lol after 11 straight wins I got promoted to Plat, feels good to be plat in all leagues. xD

having a graphics problem that I need some advise on. I am running the game on a Macbook Pro, with the following specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz processor 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics card under PCI, Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT under PCIe
so basically I meet all the blizzard suggested Optimal settings. So, naturally, I tried to run the game on the High graphic settings. I decided that trying to run Ultra was stupid, so I just went with High. When I started the first campaign mission however, the FPS basically died so I was watching a series of pictures. As soon as the mission actually began, the game told me to lower my graphics settings or close applications to improve performace... except I was running basically nothing in the background. I didn't expect to have this problem with a rig that seems to meet blizzards standards. Any advice here?
When I'm playing, my Right Ctrl key will randomly stop working in the middle of a game, so I can't select units with it. It works to do other stuff (ie. Ctrl + Alt + Delete) so it's not the hardware. It seems to just be SCII.
Has anyone heard anything of the old OLD school foreign players and their thoughts on SC2? I'm talking about the likes of Grrr and Elky - the company of Don Nazgul.
Does anyone have a free guest pass. I really wanna join the starcraft community but I want to try the game first. If you have a spare, can you please send it to my email at: cubanito_305@hotmail.com Thanks guys.

could it be the paged pool memory problem? had the same thing, game ran smoothely for some seconds, then performanced dropped drastically; you can try setting it up manually, google for more infos
I've been experiencing some crazy lag whenever I use a shift-queue command. (My game seems to freeze for 1 up to 3 seconds, while this is happening I sometimes hear a random beeping noise that goes on for about 10 seconds.)
For instance when I'm holding shift to spam infested terrans with an infestor, or when queueing a lot of move commands.
It also happens when I try to add more units to my selection by holding shift. The more units I add this way the more lag I seem to be getting. If i select all my units at once I don't get any lag at all.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
As far as I can remember shift-queueing worked fine for me in the beta.
By the way it has nothing to do with windows sticky-keys, I have them disabled and the beeping noise I'm hearing is nothing like it.
I checked the profile of people in my 2v2 Bronze division and they the number two and three are in 2v2 gold, wtf? Also, the matchmaking system always matches me against team that is favored, which probably because im in bronze, but i would like to play against other bronze players once in a while.

it's possible, and not gonna lie, the game ran A LOT better once I closed Steam and a few other applications that were technically open (meaning they had been opened, but the actual windows had been closed) but it still wasn't perfect. The only way I can really fix that problem is by just closing the apps, since the fixes seem to be for Windows rigs only...

Or is there a weekly schedule for maintenance's like wow on wednesday (for Europeans) and the week isn't over yet ?
Just wondering about it :D
Apples and oranges my friend.
Starcraft II is not an MMO game and it is not a database driven application. World of Warcraft has huge amounts of data stored in a database about each and every toon, guild, server, etc. Without the databases behind it, WoW could not exist. WoW will need to reindex those database tables on a regular basis. If they do not do this, then it takes the database longer to query information. This in turn introduces server-side lag to the game.
Starcraft II is not a persistent world, and it does not have to track every grey, white, blue, green and purple drop from the millions of mobs killed on 200+ servers by 11+ million players every day.
Here is a comparison that is probably pretty accurate: Both WoW and SCII are games. But that is where the similarity ends.
Think of WoW as a cruise liner. Lots of things to do, and it carries a lot of people at once. The cruise liner carries upwards of a thousadn people at a time. There are social activities and many many ways to entertain yourself. But it HAS to dock at port for fuel, food and maintenance. And every 5-10 years the entire ship needs a refit, all the anodes need replaced, barnacles scraped, etc. Refitting a cruise ship is very complex process and takes months of time, and millions of dollars.
Now think of Starcraft II as an 8 passenger minivan. It never has to dock, take on food, and it can fuel up and be ready to go in 5 minutes. An oil change takes 15 minutes. And entire engine change and overhaul will take a good mechanic 8 hours. You can only directly interact with 7 other people at once and you cant surf on the foredeck, eat a filet mingon cooked in the minivan, or play shuffleboard. There just isnt room for it.
Both cruise liner and minivan are vehicles. But both have radically different purposes and requirements.
Battlenet will have maintenance windows, but they will not be as involved or as intrusive as the WoW ones.
If you have ever owned a car, you know that the oil has to be changed to prevent damage to the vehicle. Complex computer applications are the same as any other machinery. Maintenance is required. The scope of the maintenance will always depend on the complexity of the application.

they are in 2v2 Gold with some specific partners most likely, and usually the more games you play the closer your opponents will get to your skill level. If you win alot your opponents will become harder pretty fast.

I wanted to ask a simple yet probably irritating question here that is asked very very commonly around the forum but still unclear.
The question is whether or not StarCraft 2 imbalanced or not.
Why is it confusing? Because loads of loads of players are joining in to a group that says the game is not balanced (especially ZvT) and on the opposite side in this forum loads of loads of players state the exact opposite. With Dimaga considering to move to Terran it is even more confusing.
Now the real questions are: What is the official statement of Blizzard? Is starcraft 2 balanced or not? What is the official statement of TeamLiquid?
Obviously these questions are related for the situation up to this point - Aug 18 2010.
The situation is unclear to me - especially when using the search option on the forum - it gets so many threads that reading all of them will take ages.

I just burped an idea and thought this was the place to post it for people to tear it apart!
Chew on this: give the infestor a ranged area spell which would let it create a large patch of creep almost instantly, from a distance.
Imagine an infestor spewing the creep on a terran ball right before the attack.. Since creep is a large bonus for zerg ground units, the T should try to move away, somewhat like dark swarm. The creep would slowly dissipate after the battle if there are no creep tumors around, so it wouldn't be very useful for creating long-term creep pathways, only for intense micro moments!
I think this fits nicely with the feel of the unit and of the zerg in general and it would bring some very welcome "oooh" and "aaah" moments in the game. Comment!

The problem is there isn't a consistent definition for this. Most people use it to meant they are losing vs a certain matchup. Either way as has already been said there are no official answers on this as it is more of an opinion question.
My question is, I keep seeing things like "Liquid Fighting" or "Liquid Hwaiting". I assume they are both referencing the same thing and related to something korean from broodwar . Would someone mind explaining how it originated and what it means? Thanks.

I think it probably overlaps the the overlord's spit creep too much. How big are you thinking, the reason creep helps is it improves speed of your units. If you are using it on the enemy army, then your units are already there and don't need it. I can see it being useful for some spine crawler pushes or if it was large enough to try and get into position. I would rpefer something like this ont he overseer though. He could fly up lay down a path and then scoot. Might be too powerful, depending on the size, energy costs. You could deny an expansion for quite a while.
When defending your base it is sometimes necessary to use both SCVs and military units to defend. Normally I just select my marines/marauders/SCVs and attack move.
However sometimes they SCV just stop attacking for no reason. Is there any trick to this I do not understand? Do you have to manually target SCVs on each zergling?

Having creep at the attack site means your ground units will form concaves faster, kite better, move forward faster so that the units in back can get in range, etc.

I don't think the infestor spewing creep would really overlap the overlords creep. The overlord's creep is really a defensive way of spreading creep ( trying to high way with overlords will simply get you supply blocked <.< ) and it may be an interesting spell for the Infestor, although I doubt it's implementation.

However, I can play the game on High pretty well for a while, but after an hour and a half or so, it tends to slow down. Not sure what would happen if I broke it up. If you have auto repair on they'll start repairing each other instead of attacking. Might possibly be that.

Maybe quite pointless query, but thanks for the answer...
Stop basicly wipes all the units orders. he will now act as he believes best fit. e.g. a marine will start shooting a overlord that is above him, as it moves out of range he will give chase shooting it untill it is dead and then returning to his original spot. This is what units default to when they finish a designated order. So if a zealot gets shot by a marine he will run to it and kill it.
If instead you have hold position they will not move at all. In the above to examples, the marine would shoot the overlord until it moved out of range. Even if he could see it he wouldn't move to engage. The zealot would stand there until dead while being shot by a marine, never engaging unless the unit walked into melee range.
The usually stop is what you want but at times if you are being kited (marine shoots a single zergling to lure it into tank range, hold is better. The other big use of hold is early game for a protoss. Place a zealot on hold ground in a 1 square entrance to your base and now zerglings can't squeeze through. A lot of people forget the hold ground so I engage, pull back and when the zealots leave the choke, dart past and into the base.
This part is speculation but I believe it is correct, the reason that probes will offten stop engaging opponents in your base when given an attack move order is that unlike most units defaulting to stop when they are done and then engaging around them probes default behavior is to be idle (must be government works j/k) So when they attack move if they reach the spot they were ordered they no longer have the attack command. This is why it can be useful to use the attack command multiple times when throughout the engagement if fighting with SCV/drones/probes Hope this helps.
Edit - hit quote instead of edit, sorry for the double post.

Not sure if this is still being maintained as I have seen some units not current to the latest path but it also allows you to compare units which I find very helpful. http://www.sinfulgaming.com/starcraft2/deathchart.php
How does splash damage work between air and ground units?
For example, if an Archon is hitting Zerglings, and Mutalisks are positioned near the zerglings, will it spread to them as well?
edit: I booted it up and tested myself. It seems that it does. This makes Archons stronger than I would have thought versus something like ling/muta due to the fact that lings and mutas can both be in a very small area, suffering lots of splash damage. Since its the only unit in the game with splash that hits both air and ground with the same attack, I wasn't sure how this would work. Very interesting.

My first post here..lurking for a couple weeks since release. Wasn't sure if this was the right place to post, but it is about SC2. Well I've been watching numerous replays of pros and I continue to see how they are able to select all of their workers at once, I have looked around and seen that CTRL+F1 does this, but this does not work for me. If someone could enlighten me on how this is done, it would be much appreciated.

Could you word this better please? I think the answer to this : doubleclick/ctrl+click an scv, and it will select all the scvs that are currently on the screen.
In ZvP, when I play 2 Hatch Hydra and the Protoss doesn't pressure me too much, I build two evo chambers really early and upgrade grooved spines and 2/2 or even 3/3 ASAP to get "Superhydras" which I are somehow really effective against almost all Protoss units for me. Call it "Fast Superhydras"
I won most games with this tactic but then again, I'm a more casual player and good macro and polished play is way more important on my level than tactics. Is this a good gameplan in general?
is gamespeed slower now because while watching day9 daily 126 i noticed his pylons were making in ~18 seconds whereas my pylons were taking ~28 seconds and I'm playing on faster.
He uses the qxc build order tester and I'm using the newer version of it

well if u are talking about getting 3/3 upgrades just for hydras basically means u have like infinity time and good players wont give u that time...
IMO (Diamond ~800 points zerg) hydras are basically crap in its current state...u need them to stay alive (early defence against banshees,vrays,phoenix,4gate push,...) but everything beyond that they are useless imo...tanks/storm/collosi just rape them to badly
so Hydras are an important unit for any zerg but to rely only on them is a bit dangerous but like u said that doesnt matter in lowerlevels that much
In the baneling topics people are talking about "right click unburrow"
Am I to take this to mean that if you burrow banelings and then right-click the unburrow button they will automatically unburrow and explode if things walk over or walk near them?
What is the equation between the time in game and real world time? The Blizzard website says that probes are made in 17 seconds, but it sure doesn't feel that way.
Also, how many probes per mineral patch? And what is the typical point you expand - once your mineral patch is depleted/saturated with probes or at some pre-set supply?
On August 22 2010 14:33 Ashok wrote: Also, how many probes per mineral patch? And what is the typical point you expand - once your mineral patch is depleted/saturated with probes or at some pre-set supply?
3 probes per mineral patch and usually u expand when around 20 something supply or around 9 minutes(max)
Hi, since it seems okay to ask dumb questions here... In which game types are the various combat achievements attainable? The first two categories say "melee game", the last category says "league game". So what exactly qualifies a game to be a melee game? (I think league is obvious enough, any game that you enter by pressing "Find Match" will qualify)

expansion timing is completely dependent on the game dont box yourself in with game times or supply times also some patches take 3 and some only take 2, so full saturation is around 2.5 per patch, but you still want extras to maynard/replace lost ones

So can anyone help me? Does anyone know of a non-Ling/Baneling build in ZvZ. I don't want Cheese/All-in either, I want something standard...but not Ling/Baneling.
I am really just getting bored of this matchup and sometimes it comes down to pure luck. I'm not even doing bad. I straight up crush anyone who doesn't Ling/Baneling, but against anyone who mirrors me, it comes down to lucky Baneling explosions.
Well you don't really need the F keys in SC2. With multiple building selection you can macro without have to go to your buildings. And you can go to a fight by double tapping your army or to your base by double tapping your building key. Why would one specifically need F keys in SC2?
I was thinking that roach speed should be moved to tier 1. This would allow for zerg to have another opening. they can opt to spend first 100 gas on speedlings, roach speed or lair.
what do you guys think? I think it should definitely be looked at and tested.

It seems like any other Roach build where you just get out expanded and give up all map control, especially if the map have an open natural or backdoor so Banelings can get in the mineral line easily.
Can you get all the credit related achievements (get all the mercenaries, all the upgrades, etc) in one run? or am I gonna have to go through the campaign like 5 times? XD

Hey, I want to ask since I am new and cannot post in a new topic a question in this thread.
My B-net Icons, like the ones for the achievements and the portraits all seem to be bugged and show that they are currently refreshing, but never seem to refresh. I still can play the game and all, only the icons are bugged. Am I the only one experiencing this problem ? I can post a screenshot if you'all would like
I think they are about to bring the servers down so there are a lot of drops and most achievement stuff is bugging out. I think it'll all be sorted out by this afternoon (PST) so for the next few hours stuff will be messed up if you can get on.
What is up with the "Defend the moon" custom map?? it shows like 30 times on the EU server. + ofc the achievements and all that are broken again .. seems like EU servers is always screwed up -_-

Well first off, I didnt know that so Ill say not common knowledge
I guessing it has to do with the order that the modifiers are applied. First it does hardened sheild and reduces the damage to 10, then it does the corruption and that increases it 20% to 12. It seems intended to me, and in any case its not a huge deal though i suppose it would help ultra vs immortal, but why would you get corruptors vs immortals instead of lings.
Regarding matchmaking; When matchmaking searches for opponents, it rarely plops you into a game immediately, sure, we all know this. After a few seconds it will start "expanding"search. Now, when it does this, is it simply widening the group of people it looks through, or is it widening the skill gap it will search through, or is it just breaking out of your own division into other divisions or what?
I would simply like to know why every single opponent I face is favored, or sometimes only slightly favored. Is this because matchmaking is still gauging my skill, or is it just because nobody else was around to play with poor me?

Will using the "stop" command return all interceptors to the carrier? Just curious because if I ever use carrier/mothership I don't want the vortex to eat all my interceptors. (I'm guessing if yes, "hold" would be the method of choice for any type of carrier kiting micro)
And I'm assuming that after its cast, interceptors who fly over the vortex on a path towards their target will be sucked in as well?

At certain points you do need to log into bnet with sc2 in order to authorize offline play... I'm not sure how often it is but I think it persists for the first 30 days of playing the game according to a blizz support guy I spoke to.

Is replays harmful for the game? In that it makes you able to pick apart a build somebody has played 1-2 times where without the replay you have to guess at a few things in it. If there were no replays, would it be easier to make different builds work due to how long it would take to break them down?

I know what you are saying, but I don't know if I agree. Its not hard to just queue upgrades for each individually. Even if Blizz does want to change this, it definitely shouldn't be a top priority. How often do you want to research 2 things at once and you don't have enough time to click on a different hatchery before selecting the second upgrade. Not very often I'd wager.

Recently players have discovered how to de-stack their mutas a la one of these cool ZvT threads .
However, I was wondering if there was a way to effeciently stack units again, namely pheonixes in the pvz matchup. Obviously, to abuse the 4 vs 3 range you want the pheonixes clumped very tightly for minimum damage and maximum kiting.

Anyone else wish that the ladder wins would show up similar to the TLPD entries? It'd be nice if Blizzard could implement W:L Statistics against each race and overall. I'd also like to see medals in the profile for tournaments the player has participated in.
Confused about the placement system for some reason I thought I would be playing people only in my league and division. Which now that I think about it wouldn't make sense given how few people that would be. Though I can also play people not in my league? My match that moved me from silver to gold was against a platinum level player which seems weird but oh well. Not sure what the division system is for then, just having an overall league ranking would make more sense.

I think you just need to open it through the editor then file -> publish yourself. You have to login to your account through the editor then pick lock or unlock. Locking means nobody can edit even yourself (it recommends you keep another copy, advise for the maker) and unlocking means anyone can edit. It doesn't really matter since your not the map maker and the person put it on a public site.

I think a lot of people want to know that lol. I assume just create buzz for it by making a good promo video and a thread for it on SC sites like TL and SC2 map sites.
Hi, i'm new here, and i just wanted to discuss something. Playing sc2 is my first starcraft experince. I was watching VOD's for a long time before though because i found it so interesting. When I first got the game I wanted to play terran but chose protoss because my cousin wanted to use terran and we didnt want constant mirrors against each other. Anyways i started off very very bad, I was placed in gold, dropped to silver. recently improved quite a bit, and got promoted to gold again, but i have just had one of my worst starcraft days ever and been moved back down to silver.
Anyway. To the point of my post, I am no TLO or Tester as you can see lol. But i wanted to ask if every1 shares the same sentiment with me in that protoss is just the easiest race to cheese. It has a real effect on my play because as i am trying to improve i am constantly having to think about checking every single nook and cranny of the map looking for proxy gateways or proxy barracks etc. and also the pvp matchup is a joke. It is either a 2 gate, cannon rush or void ray rush. Or if it manages to make it past that stage the person with the most stalkers and colossi wins.
This is turning into a little bit of a rant but. Was it like this in brood war? it seems that 19 out of every 20 games i play it ends in either me getting cheesed, or me defeating cheese and then crushing the opponent because he sacrificed everything for the build. also it seems to me (as it apparently does to a lot of people) that the game is somewhat unbalanced, at least at lower levels of play. for example in p v t, if the terran goes mm early push, your survival depends upon how well you place a forcefield at your ramp, and when theres no ramp or theres a back door (stupid blistering sands) you die.
I want to ask terran players if it is the same for them? do they have to fear silly cheesy builds constantly? I have more questions but i'd like to firstly know that as i think changing to terran is the way forward as toss is too fragile early on and there are a few units that they just dont have an answer too (i'm looking at you brood lord)
On August 28 2010 07:48 gauntlet wrote: protoss is just the easiest race to cheese.
i disagree. even though i'm not really facing that much cheese now that i got up to diamond, i don't have a hard time with it. I feel just going for a normal 12gate while scouting after pylon is adequate to stop any kind of cheese. e.g. if i scout an empty protoss base, i check my own and its surroundings, while rushing to a stalker. if you see 2gate, cut probes and add a gate, if you see cannon rush just make stalkers, 2 stalkers w/ some micro beat infinite cannons (assuming the cannons aren't right next to eachother) vs zerg just wall w/ pylon gate or gate cyber, pull some probes until zlot arrives in case of 6pool. vs terran proxy rax just chrono out some stalkers and a sentry.
On August 28 2010 07:48 gauntlet wrote: and also the pvp matchup is a joke.
I agree, mostly because expansions are near impossible to get up.
Hey, I'm pretty new but having lots of fun as a zerg lately. Although I don't compare to anyone that played BW or had beta access, it's is so rewarding that I can see how I beat better oppenents after every single day of playing.
However, I'm still a newbie so maybe someone can help me out with this question I got (I hope this is an okay place to ask):
As a zerg that is going for any BO that invloves its first building at 13,14,15 or even later sup, what are the differences and benefits of the openings with 9overlord, 10 overlord, 10 overlord + extractor and 10 overlord + double extractor. While I can understand that a very early pool requires different prerequisits (and espcially something like 12 pool might love double extractor), I kinda fail to understand why I have seen pro replays with each of the mentioned openings.
Shouldn't there be one superior opening (for late buildings)? What is the difference otherwise?
Thanks a lot for any help in advance.
E: nvm, just found the Strategy forum. Gonna ask there.

the statistics are kinda broken for zerg. I'm not sure what exactly is counted but it's a lot. Maybe larva, creep tumors and so on. He probably just makro'd a lot and forgot to get enough units. Hence he lost to your push.
In that case, the only thing broken would be the statistics
I read somewhere that that build CatZ tried against LzGamer (burrowed Infestors) at MLG was developed by FruitSeller (aka Cool) and that some of CatZ timings where off. Anyone knows if this is true and, if so, where can I find FruitSeller's replays using this strategy?
Bah I was wondering if there ended up being a solution to those several days where ladder matches were not being recorded and more importantly, if the lack thereof points did/did not affect the matchmaking ranking.

It's not expensive. "Money greeding?" It's not like they're charging a subscription fee. $60 plus two expansions (probably $50) over the next few years. Cable TV in the US costs the same amount, but every month! Trips to the movie theater for a single individual are around $10, and that's for only two hours of entertainment.
Games are expensive to make, and they have to not only recoup their costs, but profit as well. Everyone involved in its development has to pay for rent/mortgage, food, etc, i.e. make a living. I think the price is quite fair.
About splash damage: After patch 1.1 tanks will do 35+15 (or 30+20 I can't remember atm). So if they hit a stalker the damage will be 50. Does the splash also have a damage multiplier? i.e if there was a zealot next to the stalker (not armored, obviously), will the splash be 50*multiplier based off distance or will it be 35*multiplier based off distance. How was the situation in BW?
-If it is going to be 50* multiplier based off distance, will the tank 'Smart AI' focus armored units to create the most splash?
-Are protoss shields also affected by this. i.e do I do 50 dmg to all protoss shields?
I'm giving up my rank, I was once gold got dropped to silver just because I got rushed or cheesed 8 times in a row. any hackers who can force join later matches all you need to ask me is, are you Tyr 544? my b-net account name and if it's me I'll drop out immediately. I'm not sure about your question, but I'm going to try to use my common sense to answer it. I believe that even if you hit an armored unit (for example stalker) and it does splash damage to a light unit (zealot), it will not do the extra 15-20 dmg to the zealot. Also, if the tanks hits the zealot and does splash damage to the stalker, the result will be the same.
This is just what I think though, nothing certain.
Pretty sure about the damage, each unit affected by the splash takes into account its own personal armor type. If stalker gets hit for 50, then the zealot should get hit for 35 as it is not armored assuming there is no diminishing returns for damage if you are not stacked up right next to unit.
Regarding Shields - Shields in SC2 differ from SC:BW and SC1 in that the shields are just an extension of the base hit points. Shields do not take full damage like they previously did for all weapon types. This means a Siege Tank in seige mode will deal 50 dmg to a stalker total. Regardless if it is to shields or base hit points. A siege tank will also do 35 damage to a zealot regardless if it is to shields or base hit points.

You can't, because in order to log in as a guest, you need to authenticate your account, which is kind of hard to do since the authentication servers are down.
It's quite shitty, that you can't play offline nor watch replays, if their servers are down.

Yet, in my profile clearly shows me that I won all 5 of my placement matches. So how come I can't find the replay for my first game? Is this happening to other people? Help from anyone would be much appreciated.
Would this be an interesting or not-horrible idea, at least for a mod?
Siege tanks, when unsieged, are identical to the way they are now. When sieged, they have two attacks. One attack will be a spell, but the reason I say "two attacks" is because they cannot fire their normal attack at the same time they fire the "spell." When they attack normally, they use a *insert fancy name* projectile that deals moderate damage to a single target. The spell is a low-energy-cost target-ground AoE heavy duty projectile very similar to the siege tank's original attack, in that it deals high splash damage, but different in that it has approximately 1 second delay. This means if you want to hit anything with it, you'll have to aim.
This will make the siege tank much more micro intensive, and thus more of a specialized unit, but thanks to its still crazy-long range, still very useful.

It has a pretty high attack priority cause it attacks the banelings.
EDIT: how do you start your own thread? a few times i tried to find it, never found anywhere to do that. im asking here because this is the best place i know, even if it may not be the right place...
Creating threads is next to the words "topic" and "topic starter" above the topics
My question is: Due to the prevalence of protoss tactics in PvZ such as 2gate, ForgeFE, and the 4gate push, could 10pool soon become standard in ZvP? It allows early aggression, due to the mobility of zerglings it forces protoss to either get cannons or wall in, both allowing a zerg expansion. The early zerglings and potential spine crawler helps ward off any 2gate push, the early aggression delays 4gate (unless they wall off) and allows the expansion to get adequate static defenses before it comes.
I only have 1 replay since I only tried it this morning and I admit my opponent had less than perfect macro and mechanics but I feel like he was forced into every move that I abused.
Hey guys! I was thinking today about the whole orbital command/planetary fortress dichotomy and ended up wondering when it would be better to ignore the obvious economic benefits of the orbital command and go for the security of the planetary fortress. Is there a point where the benefits of the orbital command stop adding up? Are there certain matchups where the terran lack of mobility calls for the aid of the planetary fortress? I don't have a ton of experience so what do you guys think?
Weird question but I've been seeing this on the floors of some maps recently (Xel Naga Caverns) and I was wondering if it is my video card being weird or if there are some settings I need to change in the game. One of the shadows looks like a man in a hood, doesn't seem very appropriate for SC2.
