Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
I'm wondering if there will be a significant balance patch to herald phase 2's arrival in the next few days, or will they just pick up from where they left off. What sort of things are you guys expecting in terms of possible balance/b.net 2.0 changes if they do patch initially.

..like patch 1.08
Ye but i thought since it's beta, maybe they want to try out the tournament systems just to check for bugs and to see if b-net can handle it. Seems reasonable to me. Unless they plan to include tournaments in a later patch that is
On July 02 2010 23:09 Sandrosuperstar wrote: I expect them to try som tournament system of sorts
Was thinking about that too a lot. But I think the focus should be more on making it more interesting, e.g. boosting styles of play and units that are underused atm.
But the change I'm hoping most for is 1food roaches.
Now that tanks have 50 damage, it is possible to do that properly: 100hp, 2armor, 10dmg and 1food, 50min 25gas. Also make them smaller. The rest as is.
What will be the result? Unupgraded tanks and immortals 3shot them, as they do now. With one attack upgrade, they 2shot them. Thors always 2shot them. 2upgraded Ultras 3shot them. They will have considerable tankability against the lower damage fast attacking units.
You can get lots of them, giving the Zerg this swarmy feel they miss. But they are gas capped and weaker, so you can't get an overwhelming army early, as was possible at the start of beta, when they were those super units.
Them being smaller makes roach groups denser, allowing better focus fire for the roach, and gives them more mobility, but also makes them more vulnerable to splash damage.
Which also means banelings become very cost effective against clumped roach groups larger than 5. Interesting early ZvZ where you can and need to get just the right balance of roach/ling/bling and micro it well?
The cranks that should be used for the likely further balancing (I don't expect this to be perfect immediatly, needs games to test obviously), are their damage, size and the burrowed regeneration rate.
As I said, I don't think this would be really necessary from a balanbce point of view. It just would make Zerg more like the Zerg swarm.
Some other changes I would like to see too, but I posted most of them already.
But the change I'm hoping most for is 1food roaches
Beating this dead horse again.
I hope phase 2 is the same as phase 1 balance and unit-wise. I do not have the data to make a reasonable judgement as to what needs "nerfing/buffing" and I can assume you do not either.
I would mainly hope for interface changes and smoothing, like additional options in game to health bar transparency, or position relative to units. Also, this might just be me, but I want profiles to be more interactive, and a way to show off your icon and ranking to other players on bnet... (*cough* chat lobby *cough*) I mean come on, what else are these features for besides showing off your e-peen (or lack thereof) to the random public, because your friends don't want to see it.
I dont expect any changes otherwise maybe some balance changes, but i am not even sure about that, as the last balance patch had so little time to stew.

None of my suggestions are motivated by a feeling of something being OP and needs nerfing or buffing. I don't play the beta, I can't really comment on that. It's an afterthought.
All changes I wanna see are purely motivated by me wanting to see more diverse gameplay. That encompasses making the races divers fro each other and with a unique character, as well as making the races themselves diverse and dynamic.
And Zerg not having a 1food fighting unit is just not right.

I think it's highly unlikely that there will be a significant balance patch now because the developers are preparing the game for release. If anything there might be a major ladder system re-haul.
But post-retail I think devs will definitely tackle the elephant in the room that is the uselessness of ultralisk and mothership!
I believe there was a blue post saying players shouldn't expect much of a change from the end of phase 1 to the beginning of phase 2. Too lazy to dig it up though :<
Woah, well, in attempts to manage some expectations: Most of the work right now is on ensuring we have as solid and stable a release as possible.
What you saw in phase one (with the exception of character codes and some minor balance tweaks) is what you'll see in phase two, and release. A lot of the larger feature integration and refinement plans that we've been discussing recently are planned for post-launch.
Well this morning today the Blizzard notification in the Starcraft 2 main menu "The first beta phase will end today.....thank you for your help in testing Starcraft 2....." blablabla wasn;t there anymore ,and now when I enter the game i get a yellow in game notification window "You are trying to log in with a client version not recognized by the Battle.net service".So I wouldn't rule out the second phase starting today or in the next couple of days just yet .
Am I the only one who things of SS runes everytime I see the psionic storm upgrade icon? When undeads were the nazis of WC3, protoss are the ones of SC2!
IIRC blizz said beta would be back up a for a couple weeks before release, so 14 days before the 27th would be the 13th, so at the very least I'd expect it by then

What? Im Lost Beta will be up again 15 days before official launching date IMO. The reason is it will be like a 15 day free trial, just like WoW.
From this, I think blizzard decided to balance the game around the main units for each race being 2 supply. The only things not 2 supply are zerglings and marines basically and this makes sense as they are really weak units, but strong in huge groups. Also I think protoss has the most trouble in the opening of the game simply given the high cost of all units, but because of how strong each unit is + spells like guardian shield, blink, force field, etc protoss is extremely strong at later games.
Personally I think siege tanks should be given back their 60 damage and make them 4 supply so as to lower their effectiveness in the game.
Final note, as a protoss mainly, I think toss hasn't been utilizing templar or archons in most game yet. I really have this feeling that the best generic strategy will revolve around building 2 gate, 1 robo, and then going templar tech similar to how terran have the 1 racks, 1 factory, 1 starport build. I'm going to test out some builds against darktea sometime.

Yeah I wish the beta were to be up soon, but maybe sometime next week. I am thinking maybe tuesday (their maintenance day) but I am not even sure then. All we can hope for is soon, that is all they told us after all lol.

Mining gas w/ a mule would be a major unfair advantage.
As for e-bays, I don't know...first time i tried lifing one off..i was like....crap
Same as I, I think they don't want people to use them to block expos like Sc:Bw and then use for vision while making turrets, etc.. Not sure what the deal is though.. I guess if you go mech you can make one to scout and it wont be important to your strategy with making factories, You can't do this with your barrack as you need to make marines to stop the early game pressure... But I guess you could just make another one to float? So i'm not 100% sure..
And as above said^^ It would be an unfair advantage for sure as chrono and inject doesn't work the same way..
I think mining gas by mules could be a "bit" unfair for other races because for instance zerg, if zerg had something like that he could make about idk maybe 12 mutas fast haras instead of 4 xD so i even don't know why this question has been given here. About engineering bay i don't care because its useless to lift it maybe if you want to scout with it or make a wall.
i would like to see something done to the roach and ultralisk in phase 2, specifically the roach early on in the game (burrow tier 1 tech anyone?) and perhaps give the ultralisk some range.

Yeah, I think that burrow should be tier 1 because roaches are too weak, maybe bring back 2 armor and 1 supply?
Ultralisks need range or to step over zerglings.. I was thinking 5 range like some art shows? -______________-
But yeah, I don't know about the burrow tier 1.. Ultralisks being able to push over smaller units would be ok though.

5 range? LOL... roaches have 3... so, if Ultras had maybe 1.5 (if thats possible, but for logic sake, that sorta range, aka, just enough to creep the claws over the ling-ling's heads...)
I miss burrow at tier 1 because as my signature suggests burrowed zerglings are my favorite scouts. Thanks a lot, roaches.
With all this talk about the lack of 1 food units it makes me wonder if one of the expansions is going to introduce new t1 staple units for each race. Something like Dark Zealots that are the slightly faster, slightly weaker Zealot cousin, but at Twilight Council you could research ability for two Dark Zealot to morph into a... something fun.
Zerg: Roach armor increased to 2, improved ultralisk pathing.
Protoss: Force field energy cost increased, void ray gas cost nerfed to 200, Archons given more armor and a waaaay more powerful attack (don't know what either is but they're both pretty underwhelming), and that glitch that lets stalkers blink up destructible rocks removed.
Terran: Siege tanks moved up to 4 supply (Because the idea that 1 siege tank takes up only slightly more space than a roach is insane), and the radius in which a sieged tank cannot fire increased (As of now, they can fire on things that are just a few feet away from them. I want them to be inable to fire while sieged within an radius of 5 in order to force terran micro to become existent)

Ultra buff, Archon buff is all i want at this point. evrything else in my eyes as P is doable and balanced. Roaches are fine, Mauraders are fine. Personally I find tanks to be fine but I do believe they should bring back overkill to a certain extent. It shouldn't be as bad a BW but I think it should be still there.. maybe 2 tanks shoot a target that requires 1 shot instead of all of the tanks shooting it?
Archons need some way to get to enemies without dying instantly, maybe an armor buff. Ultras do need changed pathing.
I think that marauders might need a nerf though, maybe less damage vs. Armored- right now they instakill all Protoss tier 1 and kite much too easily. They should at least get killed by immortals in an equal food fight.
I've pre-ordered SC2 from gamestop (2nd week of June) and was under the impression that when the beta came back I would receive a beta key. Is there a process I should follow or just expect a random invite to show up in my email?
Should it be impossible for me specifically to receive an invite/key: 1. Are there keys still for sale? 2. Can you share accounts? 3. What is your best advise?
Lastly, without having the game to tinker around with, is there a wiki-ish with full descriptions of tech trees/unit stats/counters? (anything besides liquipedia?(which is a wonderful resource!))

An armor buff for those whole 10hp? If anything give them 50 more shields or an additional +1 shield defense.
Someone somewhere else said there would be balance changes in Phase 2. I've always thought Phase 2 was just for Battle.Net stuff. Is there anyone with information out there?
Also, iirc, Blizzard said that there would be a week before the end of beta and release, but that might have changed.
I really do not understand at all, why it is tier 2.

Makes Zerg feel more like..well..Zerg.
hmmm... Burrow in T1...
as a zerg player, i'd say make Ultra/Broods on T1, but that wouldn't go over too good with the rest of everyone else... However, burrow in T1 may or may not be an advantage towards zerg because all drones could burrow when being harrased. WHICH MEANS, at that early in the game (when T1.5 at best it out) no, maybe a scan, detection is available, enabling the zerg to NOT need to run away their drones while keeping them all alive.
ALSO, if under attack, just burrow queen/lings until another queen/more lings pop out to fight it off
sounds awesome, but idk, would have to be tested... maybe modded in the editor to see how it works out
I think burrow in t1 initially sounds ridiculously overpowered. Like, Rush to burrow, and then just be immune to damage until they get detection. I mean it might balance out the lack of harass that zerg has, bit still. . .

Well, Orbital Command is done by 20 food 99.5% of the time...
Observers are out shortly thereafter...
Other races have wall-offs...Zerg gets Burrow? You still have to research it.

Meh. Observers are only in one of the three tech choices for Protoss, so they're a tad out of the way. Being able to have burrow already done when you get lair. . .Seems like really fast tunneling claws. I'm not 100% positive, but it might have some weird timing. That and speedlings and queens take care of harass so completely, seems like you're giving zerg too much protection.
Hey fellas. Long time no see. (I'm Beast from way back) I played the beta quite hard and I've been thinking a lot about what should be changed. I would have made a post about it, but I can't and I want to write this somewhere, before it slips my mind, so... I'm gonna vent a bit, if you don't mind.
- EMP taking away mana should be removed from the game. It's absurd and unnecessary. What's worst is that it makes cool units like the Phoenix obsolete. I don't mind EMP taken out entirely as I'm not in favor of single match-up spells. - Most hard counters are horrible for the game. Examples include thors-mutas, ghosts-spellcasters, vikings-everything. Some hardcounters , like the immortal - armored, do work fine, because they fit well into the whole mix. Most don't. - Vikings are fun, but relying on a single unit to take away half of SC2 is beyond retarded. Am I exaggerating? Am I? OK... Phoenix, Void ray, Carrier, Mothership, Phase Prism, Observer, Collosi, Banshee, Raven, MediVac, BattleCruiser, Overlord, Mutalisk, Corruptor This is a list of just the units that the viking beats air-to-air at even limit. It also beats some land units. What the hell? - If you make DTs ever, you suck. (I don't care if you're White-Ra) - Whoever came up with the genius idea to dedicate a 250 gas building to them is an epic troll. -Zerg has seemingly devolved. Seriously, I don't see how people can find it fun after mastering SC1 as it actually has fewer options and cool units. Beyond the basic tier 1 units and the tier 2 upgrades there's just nothing, but an imba and uncool spellcaster. - Every unit and his grandmother hard counters marines (or perhaps workers) in this game. - Real toss don't use guardian shield. Instead they engage the enemy marines in a fair battle of honor. (Seriously? A spell that mainly hard counters marines? When you got collosi and templars? Wat?) - Blink is awesome. - Phoenixes are awesome, but would be super awesome if EMP did not exist. - Hallucination is awesome. - Force field could be awesome or it could fuck up the game completely. We'll see.. - Templars are a sad imitation of their former glory. But hey, at least they don't die to vikings. (And guess what? They counter marines!) - Immortals, Collosi and Void Rays are fine units. - If protoss units were to be balanced (which would be no small feat) it'd be awesome. It's better than the zerg, but still lacking for now. - Terran is by far the most complete and versatile race. All of its units are useful and it has a lot of research options as well. I only hate the free upgrades, the viking, the mana-burn EMP and kinda doubt the usefulness of the raven and thor. Rest is fine though. What's important is that the units and abilities work in unison and give plenty of meaningful choices.
- Some awesome things - Important creep, easier to destruct buildings (CHOICES), faster shield regeneration.
- Making upgrades cheap and fast takes away choices. If an upgrade costs a lot, this creates the option of making unupgraded units when optimal. With upgrades of 50-50 early game and 100-100 midgame there is no choice. Early game ups should be 100/100-200/200, mid game 200/200-300/300 and LG - 300/300-400/400 (Like for instance Yamato or Ultra Armor)
- Almost forgot - cloaked units don't really work in this game, which is a huge shame.
- Last, but not least - spellcasters in this game suck, with the exception of the sentry (which gets a honorary suck for you know what) and the mothership. The spells are neither awesome nor fitting to the game. Is it so hard to come up with awesome, but not hard-counter spells? Impenetrable fog? Time alteration spells? (like haste on a single unit or something like the old mothership slow) Invisibility? Yeah, I know it's supposed to have stasis, invisibility and teleportation, but it's on a single fucking unit and is terribly stupid this way. How's that about no choice? This game really lacks in the coolness department.
- Making units too useful or hard-countered takes away tons of choices. - Every choice that Blizzard takes away makes the game suck harder. - As it is now - SC2 kinda sucks. - If you ever use guardian shield you're a pussy.
- Poster regrets being an arrogant dick.
- Not really...
- Still I've refreshed TL hoping for phase 2 like 200 times today.
That was. . .impressive. You certainly. . .um. . .have an opinion. EDIT: I'd normally reply to a post I disagree with that much, but, ah, there's so much there!
Yeah, I know it's ridiculous, I just don't have anything to do at 4am, I'm thinking about this, while waiting for phase 2 and can't make a new thread. ;p
Little question - I'm sure it doesn't actually merit it's own thread.
When you're selecting multiple buildings, is there a way to set one building to be your focus such that when you double tap the hotkey, the screen is centered on your focus building?
As it currently stands (well the way it seemed while playing Phase 1) is that the screen will jump to the closest building from where you're currently looking.
Not the biggest of deals if this is impossible, once the game is released I'll just go back to binding screens.

F1 Idle workers though :o How do you split?
Changed idle workers to ` (same key as ~)
It's a lot easier for me to have idle workers (which are units) near my other (unit) hotkeys.
I prefer to keep cameras on one line of the keyboard (F1F2F3) and units on another line of the keyboard (` 1 2 3) etc. Makes it a bit easier to just naturally know exactly what goes where on a hotkey for me ^^
EMP is fine. Ghosts are such an expensive investment and EMPs are so easy to screw up that if he gets the EMP off, he deserves it.
I do agree that some counters are a bit absurd, but way fewer than you do. I don't think muta-thor is bad, because mutas can easily evade thors, and if a player has mutas, it's likely he went muta/ling, and lings are great against thors. I do agree with the vikings, though. Vikings are fucking retarded. They do insane damage, they have insane range, they can do a considerable amount of damage on land. But I don't see why you say they counter mutas, though. Mutas tear them to bits. I think they need to be made into light units, because they don't actually start with any armor.
Zerg is also fine. The race is very versatile, it just hasn't been fully explored yet. I think once people start to discover how fast they can tech switch and how annoying they can be with things like overseers and nydus worms and burrow, zerg will seem totally different than it did in the beta. The current Zerg strategy is massing a huge amount of one or two unit and sticking with it the entire game, which is pretty boring, I agree with you. But I think the only thing zerg needs is a slight roach buff and a fix for the ultralisks' pathing problems.

Let's look at this from a high-level game point of view. Let's assume the Terran is quite skilled mechanically, and that he does not find EMP "so easy" to screw up. I don't even play Terran, and I disagree with this...given that EMP has a large AoE, I find it quite hard to screw up. How does the player "deserve it"?
No real qualm with any of this, besides the fact that I don't think mutas 'tear vikings to bits', unless we're getting into the stage of 20 mutas vs 20 vikings...and that's the fault of the player for making 20 Vikings and 0 marines, lol. But something like 8 mutas and 8 vikings, the mutas usually come out barely ahead. (Assuming again, high-level-esque play. I RARELY see Terran players focus firing with Vikings, but I almost always see the Zerg player focusing with Mutas...) I think a lot of Viking play is just attack-move...If a good Terran player were to abuse their ridiculous range and actually micro their Vikings a bit, I think Viking-Muta battles would be a lot closer than people make them out to be...
Hm, do mutas really beat vikings at same supply? It doesn't seem so looking at the stats. I mean 1 viking obviously owns a mutalisk and if my math is correct it seems even with splash vikings still hold a small edge.
I came to the conclusion that EMP is a problem, because it doesn't enrich the game, but actually limits it. It makes the super cool phoenix useless, besides other spellcasters. It just seems bad for the game.
From what I remember in my testing, mutas don't beat vikings at the same supply. It's just that Zerg usually has many more mutas than Terran has vikings when mutas hit the field.
Although I should probably test it again just to make sure (so don't quote me on that one).

yeah i been thinking Burrow should Be a "Teir 1 upgrade" i dont think it would imbalance anything...Maybe instead make it take a bit longer to research.
Another pretty cool thing that could be added is to have a Hive upgrade for Hydras so that they can attack while burrowed.( i mean they used to be able to morph into lurkers, maybe now the loss of lurkers could justified by having the ability to attack while burrowed) and add like a 2 second delay on hydras burrowing with this upgrade like how the lurker took a while, this can be justified as time it took to create the burrow so that they can shoot out of the ground, And make it so this little Hole is visible for players to see that there is a burrowed hydra there...
In general i think there needs to be more incentive to get a Hive...about 9 out of 10 games i have never needed to get a hive

It's probably them changing the login patch required to play.

Mining gas w/ a mule would be a major unfair advantage.
As for e-bays, I don't know...first time i tried lifing one off..i was like....crap
And as above said^^ It would be an unfair advantage for sure as chrono and inject doesn't work the same way..
probes/drones made via chrono/inject are capable of mining gas additionally these abilities have other uses, chrono can speed up any building, not just make probes, and inject larvae can naturally be used for any unit, not just drones its not like allowing mules to mine gas means that the terran player gets more gas, he only gets it faster
On July 04 2010 02:49 SONE wrote: it was for "its not like allowing mules to mine gas means that the terran player gets more gas, he only gets it faster"
you misunderstand vespene geysers have a limited amount of gas, regardless of whether mules can mine them or not by allowing the terran to mine gas with mules, it does not increase this base number, it only increases gas production rate at the cost of mineral production rate
Let's say one race had something that let them harvest the entire geyser in 5 seconds. Obviously that would be totally off the wall imbalanced because you're getting those limited resources much faster.
I can't speak for mule-gas balance, but you can't defend your position using that particular argument.
Edit: Not to mention some of the timings Terran has are pretty precarious as it is. Faster thor drop, banshees, etc. and you suddenly have more problems on your hands. Listen guys, I know it's fun to think "well THEIR race gets <whatever> so wouldn't it be cool if my race got it?" but can you even attempt to think about the consequences of what you're proposing?
On July 04 2010 02:46 SONE wrote: it's not like we get more units with chrono, we just get them faster
...Lol? That would be getting more..If you are getting units faster..
You are still limited by your resources. Protoss has no way of getting more minerals / gas faster than any other race (other than chrono boosting probes, but terran has mules and zerg can drone way faster). The only thing that chrono boosts does in terms of "more units" is that it takes less production buildings to spend your gas and minerals.

There is no cow level, either.
Seriously though, a fourth race would be pretty unthinkable.
As for changes I'd like to see...(from the perspective of a zerg player)
Burrow at Tier one would be pretty awesome, but would probably come with too many balancing issues. Now that Roach is moved up to two supply, I think it would work with two base armor once again, but it is still fine as it is, so there is no urgent need to change it. Also, this wouldn't change the problem of Zerg not being able to swarm properly. It would also be possible to reduce food to one again, this would have to come at the expense of quite some base damage though. This would also make for the ideal tank unit, small, cheap and armored - but without the ridiculous blowout potential the old roaches had.
Ultralisks are fine, some range would make for a bit better gameplay though.
If Ghost EMP is is deemed too ruinous for some strategies, one could change it to 100 shield and 100 energy...would still be the same in most cases, but at least it wouldn't completely drain some units.
Tanks are fine as well, although slightly increased range where they cant shoot could maybe improve gameplay. Increasing Archon range would also allow a better game flow. Making Carriers playable in some way would be awesome, too, most powerful buff would obviously be to reduce building time.
When I have SC2 I never felt like playing it at all. Now that it's gone I'm like jesus, I want to play so bad. I want to own it up in some tournaments. Bring on Dimaga.
I'm sure once it's back up I'll be like eh, don't care anymore. lol
- we all know that beta phase 2 will end "few weeks" before the launch. Also sc2 will probably get cracked and released on torrent sites before the 27th. Considering that almost everyone will buy their sc2 copy how many of you will download the cracked version to play the campaign while the beta is down and there's no other way to get your fix.
- when the next expansions will be released will you make a new bnet acc for each one ? This way you could have three accounts for smurfing/playing off-race etc. If blizzard fails to implement crossregion play by the time HoTS comes out you could just make a new bnet accounts on other realms.

Lol, Most likely not. That would be like just buying Heart of the swarm and playing the full game?
It's like buying a toaster and electricity without bread.
Of course you will be able to play the full multiplayer if you just buy HoTS or LotV. Only difference will be the single player content. Im pretty sure i've read that both expansions will be standalone games. A quick search for a source : http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170574
personally i think burrow should be in teir one just make some adjustments for roach movement while burrowed research eg takes longer or costs more or mb half and half, that way the zerg can set traps without being able to get past blocks too easy. burrowed baneling in tier 1 would be awsome and not too early either if you think about how long it takes to mine the minerals, spawn the lings and make the baneling nest and then morph the lings too it would still give the other races plenty of time to prepare/react. i agree about ultra patheing and archon buff.
the idea about attacking burrowed hydra's in tier 3 is quite ineresting though i think to make it plausable they would have to have reduced range while burrowed.

Actually Zerg have TWO 0.5 food units ... Banelings are also 0.5 and they arent that useless and they multiply the usefulness of Zerglings, though rather specialized and a bit expensive (some say cheap, but that depends upon the number you want to make and the type of opposition you are facing).

and instantly melt to tanks.....ok.
It may be possible for them to become one food, but some changes may be needed.
However, if the matchups are even (~50/50, ~50/50, ~50/50), then there will not be any major changes like this....
Zergling and baneling both scale very well! I think they will (and should) keep the major changes to heart of the swamp - where the entire balancing equation can be reworked to incorporate new units.
I am afraid they will "add too much" in heart of the swamp and make legacy of the void a shitty game.
Broodwar introduced 7 new units, I'm expecting something similar from Heart of the Swarm. Although I was playing Starcraft back then, I was kind of clueless when it came to the internet and never thought to look up an online community - I mostly just played Starcraft with my friends.
How bad was the community reaction immediately after Broodwar was released? I'm guessing it will just be worse with Heart of the Swarm as there are more hardcore fans now.
Personally, I'm looking forward to the balance upheaval and the opportunity to explore all the possibilities.
7 new units when there is still an additional expansion is very unlikely, IMO. 1 per race per expansion max, maybe an ability or two for existing units.
I just want roaches to have their old regeneration back! Above and below ground! Like in BR1. Give back Hydralisk speed upgrade too. Reduce Ultralisk Size. Improved Corrupter/Overseer/Infestor Spells.
^ I'd prefer them to tweak numbers instead of adding too many new units and abilities, because each time they do the latter, they need to tweak a lot more numbers yet again. Do a lot of changes - sure - but only for the single player. Otherwise, the pro-scene won't be fully legit until the 3rd expansion is out and tweaked.
7K Minerals in 30 seconds -- lol, haven't seen this...
I wasn't in the beta so I just want to ask is it possible not to be able to host games?
What I mean is in WC3 it's possible that when you host games that nobody can join due to internet settings. Does SC2 have the same problem if your internet doesn't allow a certain port number through?
Hey I'm making a map and this is my outline, I don't want to make a thread for it (yet) cause its not done. But based on the outline feed back on balance would be appreciated!
Notes - The LOS blockers are there to help hinder early tank abuse (I don't think it's a problem in the map really) - The high yield minerals are only accessible through that long bridge the Xel'Naga tower only shows the base, cant each through there - Your second (or natural) is basically in your main accessible via ramp - The cliff in the middle (lower middle) will have large ramps - Thanks!

For the people who are still freaking out about making burrow T1, it will not cause burrowed moving roaches that much faster at all. The zerg player will need to make a queen, research burrow, tech to lair and then research burrow movement. Even if the zerg skips the queen until lair, that could be done anyways. So having burrow as T1 only really effects lings and drones, and does help roaches recover health a little bit. I think that is fair because roaches should be able to be healed earlyer in the game, expecially if they cost 2 food, thus requiring more overlords to be produced faster.

In response to the whole "Phase 2 Opening Soon" thing...
Blizz said they'd inform us -ahead- of time, not -when- it was time. They haven't. It's not today. Might not even be tomorrow. Hell, it may not even be Blizzards Trademarked 'soon.'
They also said that Phase 2 would close, '.... about a week before the July 27th Launch.' Not exactly. About. As in, we were given estimations, not solid dates. The 6th, as someone else mentioned, is probably a safe-ish bet, but by no means a good one, or else we probably would've heard something from Blizz by now.
Hate to be a downer... But at least you won't remember this post after the Beta goes up... And hey, if I get flamed for it, all the better... Especially if the Flamers end up being right and justified, because that means we'll have the Beta back up!

Yeah, the only time I've ever used it is by accident while microing... It's useless to anyone who actually uses control groups anyway since the hitting the key to assign to that key makes so much more sense than right clicking a number onscreen.
Still, not a huge issue, it's only happened once or twice and it's handy to have the visual reminder there for trying out new key layouts.

Having it for the visual reminder is not the problem... It actually happened to me several times (it's really frustrating in a heated game), so I really wish they would at least make a trigger to turn right click overwrite off

On topic: I think the hotkeys are useful to some people, while being very distracting to others. Players should be able to choose if they want the visual button on-screen, if they can overwrite the hotkey by right-clicking on it, and change how big/small the icon is.
Hopefully in the full game Blizzard will incorporate more customized settings for preferred game play!
i have some questions concerning the localization. i played the whole time with an english beta client, i got totally used to all the hotkeys, names, etc...
so when the game gets released, i'll prolly obtain a german version, because i am not a fan of the shipping stuff from UK. i will prolly totally hate it. it will feel weird as crap, because i am totally used to the english version and i generally prefer those over german ones.
but i see several problems incoming: are the hotkeys different? that would be pretty devastating.
another point: for example when u are trying to learn the new maps in the full release and check some forums like this, its pretty hard to directly understand of which map ppl are talking about, because i would only know the map name in german....
the biggest question however is: will there be language packages to convert any version into another? how long would i need to get along with a german version?

Well, in WoW you can play on German servers with a English client, but I have no idea if it will work that way in SC2. Do the Germans connect to the same server as the rest of Europe? If they do it might actually work since it's probably mostly UI wise that is different and the coding is probably not touched.

Im a bit feared too,
First of all, if you watching VODs... the best are in english and the translation is (most the time) really bad.
Hotkeys are the same, as far as i know. The only problem i had, during the beta is the z-y problem (on german keyboard layout, the z and y are switched)... so i had to switch the keyboard layout every time i started SC2..next problem... so writing in Game was difficult
So, how did u solve the problem? and is there a "english" version on german keyboard layout - will the y-z problem fixed in any way?
ehm i manually dled some eu version when i got the beta key. everything is english, but i dont have any problems with y and z. like zealot is z and yamato y, well the position is ofc different then on an english keyboard, but i dont have some switching probs there. basically remains the same everywhere with y next to x and z next to t. no fancy switching action required.

ah, maybe couse im playin with the n00b "grid" hotkeys )
Ok this might sound stupid, oh well idc I just need this answered because I have no idea what is going on with the beta. Is it back up right now or not because if it is I can't get on?
I really hope that it is released before the 13th or anytime soon.
Wanted to play the beta before the the game is released, however it seems that i wont be able to play for long knowing that i have not pre-ordered the game and probably wont be allowed to.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q u o t e: I can confirm that again with "early July" we mean "early July" and "Mid July. I would say more so I can not tell you, it should already be something
I am not sure if this warrants it's own thread so I am adding to this one.
What are peoples' plans for the week of release?
When the game launches on July 27th I am prepared to play until my eyes bleed. I have the week off work and I want to play my heart out. However, this leaves me with a few problems.
1st - I need people to play with. I am gold/platt level player and I would like to practice with people who are in the same skill range or better. I do not mind playing with randoms online, but prefer playing with people who are willing to critique my games.
2nd - I am looking for events to go to. I am not an A-list player and I do not qualify for the bigger tournaments. I am looking for open tournaments online or in the southern california area. I keep a close eye on the tournaments thread, but none of the open ones seem to be during the week of release.

Asagud: I've seen at least 2 threads about that tactic.
Meh, I can see how people could get all bent out of shape over an issue like this. But if you even want to get slightly involved in the community, your name is gonna get out there. In fact, we even know that QXC and Day[9] currently attend Harvey Mudd - and this is information they willingly gave out.
People tend to be very split about this issue, so I think it's better to tread lightly rather than stomp each others' faces into the ground like we're all doing right now in that thread.
Did anyone noticed that now the message "wrong client version" is gone and now it tries to connect to bnet and says "awaiting response from battle.net, the service may be temporarily unavailable"
Maybe its nothing, but at least they're doing something....
I wonder if there will be free trial for two expansions too... err... I mean beta,in beta people testing actually make changes to the game through Blizzard, right?
does the fact that you can change the realm which you connect to on battlenet mean there is potential for creating a non b.net server that will be open to US/Euro/Asia players?
Hey guys, is it widely known that SCVs can repair protoss robotic units? Cause i was liek O_O when my SCVs that i brought to the front lines of our 2v2 contain were put on autorepair and after finishing working on my tanks and went over to my partner's collosus and brought it from 3hp to full. This wasn't possible in BW was it? Or did I just never realize it?
something that i saw when i got the new patch was something about "updating-mind.control" or something like that about mind control..... maybe we will possibly see the return of the dark archon? And this isn't fake

My best guess would be it is referring to the Infestor and the fact that it can no longer MC Ultralisks
think the matchmaking system is broken. prob a bajillion ppl trying to find a match. first it didnt detect queue now i cant even get a match out of 600k bnet players
Largeman, you can find your identifier code in the Add a Friend dialog box, above the buttons for nickname.identifier and Facebook friend adding methods.
I have a silly/fun question. Probably been asked before, if so, ignore me. I've been in China for 6 years so forgive me please =p
Anyways, in your opinion, if two guys of equal skill played a match where 1 guy controlled a BW race, with all the BW race's stats and characteristics and abilities, and the other guy played an SC2 race, which guy would win? I haven't played the SC2 beta but it seems like in some ways the races may have actually gotten weaker. Especially the mining slower thing for example (though maybe some of the new macro special abilities make up for that?)
Anyways just a silly question, but I do think it would be kind of funny if after 4 years of game time the races have actually regressed and gotten weaker compared to how they were in BW haha.

Yeh im thinking a food cap of something like 250 would be good.
The issues people are having joining games or creating them, its an issue with your account. a friend of mine is having that problem, but he can play fine on my account, and when i log into his account, i have the join and create issue.
Hey guys im having a problem.. its saying that.... you have used up your prepaid time for this account. please visit battle.net account management purchase more to continue playing..

well i thought about higher food counts but it's the thing that yes the armies are smaller but so are the maps (can anyone confirm?) i'm not the biggest BW player, i've played a lil but i felt a huge difference in the maps between BW and SC2, SC2 maps felt so much smaller
Does anyone know where replays are saved now? None of my most recent games were added to the "recent" folder. In addition, I played 11 or 12 games today, but only 10 replays appear in the recent tab inside the game....
I have had a problem with Starcraft 2 since the beta came back up. After the matchmaking finally started working I got to play some games. First two games there was some lag where the game would freeze for 10 seconds. OK thats annoying but it happened in Phase 1 too. The next two games about 7-8 minutes into the game it quits me out and says I surrender, taking me to the score screen. The game doesn't crash or anything. Has this happened to anyone else?
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there are official Hybrid images in the display pictures in the new patch. Looks like a Zerg with Protoss powers!
hey guys anyone from euro having lag issues @ us server? the delay is terrible..is there any way to see my ping? also is there any program like battleping (which doesn't support sc2 anymore i think?) to lower the latency?
Hey, I'd search but I'm not really sure what this is really called. I need help with unit/building control and how to set everything up so I don't fall behind in unit production while pushing or expanding. I am pretty new to TL, didn't melee much in BW/TFT and want to get as good in SC2 as I can. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Can anyone give me tips on how a terran mech opening is supposed to work vs zerg? I just get smashed in the face with pure roach armies. Like in theory what is supposed to happen? Should my tanks be able to outproduce and kill pure roaches given better control or...?

Would you guys think changing the Mothership to cloak itself and not surrounding units plus making it a lot faster would make it more viable/op/still worthless? Doing devastating recalls and suprising your enemy with Vortex would be a lot easier in my opinion.

I suppose the general discussion thread would be a good place to ask this:
Where the heck did the meme <blank> fighting! come from? I have very limited Brood War experience so I have no idea, and google searches haven't helped me too much.
I'm just wondering...are they secret patching everything? like there is not updater popping up, and everything is just running better and better over time...so I'm kinda confused
Or are all the fixes that they've done only on their side (I believe so, but just curious)?

if I understand u right u are probably talking about battle.net itself, connection and stuff (i.e. less lags) then yes thats more Server stuff that does not directly effect us/requires us to patch

This is a play on what the korean fangirls would scream at the beginning of progamer starcraft matches. Alternative variation is "hwaiting" which is based on the fact that koreans have a hard time prenouncing the "f" sound and will consequently do "hw" instead.
Hello everyone, this has been bugging me for quite a while. Is there any way to change colors while laddering? I've seen people spawn as green zerg but I always spawn as red or blue. How is this possible? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for any help.

when SC2 is released, should I uninstall beta and all its patches etc? because I don't want to have to redownload all them for the real game.. or will patch 16 be included in the dvd?
I thought I'd ask if anyone knows some high level zerg players, I already know Sen Dimaga Idra & Artosis (I'm mostly interested in their play id est macro oriented play)
I don't know if this question has been answered already but, which is more efficient: overlord on 9 or on 10? And does gas tricking to get an extra drone really make a difference?

I don't find SC2 challenging enough. I played SC1 for roughly 10 years. During the time I played on ICCUP and hit A- many times, it was always very challenging and I enjoyed playing so much. Now I'm playing SC2 and get bored very fast. I find the micro to be too boring, and I believe this has happened because of the units introduced, and the ranges of the units. I'm going to play sc2, but I'm seriously thinking stopping all together. I'd get more enjoyment playing an xbox game, or any challenging game for that matter. Bring on portal 2!!

I have never seen you in any tourneys (I maybe wrong though) if you dont find it challenging you must be good, why dont you try and play in some tourneys. Play idra, white ra, tester, sen and then say it is not a challenge.
UGHHH .. well i won 9 of 10 to get to platinum (after working through silver too), now im on a 5 game losing stream and only winning 2 of my last 11. what do you do after getting crushed so many times? i have to re-evaluate everything i guess, all my builds etc... did anyone experience a tough transition?
You cant really risk going for the usual 2gate at natural build which puts Protoss on pretty even footing. A cautious wall-in allows them to FE and if your early pressure fails, it will be a while before you can get an expansion up.
Is it worth it to try and do some kind of one base build? I guess this is a situation for 4 gating?

When I first started playing I had a bad habit of only playing macro games, Idra-style, but as Protoss. I was giving up all the easy wins on people who were susceptible to intense early pressure.
For me, getting the pressure on early and keeping it on, and not being afraid to try and win the game early is what is keeping me from long losing streaks now-- as I'm taking wins at all stages of the game rather than only fighting to last til late game and trying to win then.
I also found that I lost a lot of battles I shouldn't have due to positioning. Not making sure my zealots were in front before engaging or if I saw an enemy moving in, not moving my units in a bit closer if I outnumber to be sure they're all able to fire, etc.
Watch your replays with army count and if you lose a battle when you had a bigger army or when you had a better army, figure out why and don't let it happen.
Starcraft 2 is freaking great. What a revolutionary game Blizzard introduced us to in 1998 and now the sequel is finally here. I've been looking forward to this game since the 8th grade. Kind of surreal.
So I've noticed that great maps that I'd love to play on more often, such as the newer Match Point and Fighting Spirit are often at the very bottom of the melee games list, with about 5-10 games played in the last hour.
I think it would be really cool to see those maps higher up, and TL can probably help. We should all get on and play really quick games on those maps sometime soon, getting it up high in the custom melee section so perhaps it will stay up there.
Do you guys think this is a good idea? It saddens me to see the best maps in SC2 get little to no attention.
EDIT: If this is a good idea and you want to get more people to get them higher up, I could post a topic about this possibly.
I know this doesnt warrant a thread (and TL aint a tech support forum) but has anyone had the problem of dling the game and then it wont let you connect (but the create account button is active). I am trying to log on to the game for the first time from a different computer so maybe that has something to do with it.
I have a basic question about supply line harassment as zerg.
When killing workers with lings or mutas, what is the best way to micro? Focus on gas workers? Right-click one at a time? Shift-click workers? Do whatever the situation allows?
In this replay of Whitera vs. DalaiLamer, I was watching from DL's point of view and noticed that he didn't even have to look at the area to make his buildings like his first Depot and Barracks. How are you able to make buildings without having to look at the area and physically put them somewhere?

No cause I would need to rush for ventral sacs and 300/300 is huge investment in mid game and also that would be too slow to get those upgrades.
Question about control groups: is it possible to "clear" a control group after setting it? For example, suppose I select a probe and hit Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, Ctrl-3, Ctrl-4, Ctrl-5; is there any way to keep the probe on control group 1 but reset control groups 2-5 to nothing?
I have a thought... What if units that are capable of being repaired by SCVs (tanks, thors, etc.) would burn, like buildings do, once they get below a certain health? Wouldn't that make sense? Not saying it should or shouldn't be that way, just wondering if anyone else thinks this makes sense?

It is a cool thought, but would be difficult to balance and would necessitate mech to always have scvs. The other thing is that most protoss units can be repaired as well, they just have no means to do so without a terran ally.
If it was going to be implemented I would prefer it to be added on a new unit that is considered an building but can move and fight, especially since the Terran are all into the transformers. I want want weak mini planetary fortresses the size of marauders with stubby robot legs, it would be so cute!!!
I can't watch patch 16 (first phase 2 patch) replays anymore, anyone else having the same problem? Any ways around it? I've tried opening the replay through sc2.exe, with no luck. Everytime I try I just get a black screen with the sc2 cursor and can't do anything but alt f4 out.
I have a question about improving my mechanics (im not sure if thats the right word, maybe keyboard speed/precision is better)
I've gotten to platinum but ive found myself now losing more games then i'm winning due to one sad simple fact: I'm terrible at hitting the keys I want to, it's not a problem of not knowing what to do, or of strategy or macro, It's that i know what to do, I go to do it, hit the wrong keys and something goes horribly wrong.
Example: I had gone 4rax FE on LT vs a toss, Had equal bases with a 40 food army advantage, move in for the kill with a ghost/marauder/marine/viking force against a zealot/stalker/colossi force.
Before I moved it I know my army was going in I was going to move to the far side of the cliff, emp, stim, then grab my vikings to level his colossus. What ended up happening was that I move in with my vikings sniped one colossus, missed an emp, half hit with two more, moved toward the ramp getting blasted by stalkers, walked into a choke between a pylon and got roasted, and never actually got stim off. I also consistantly find myself with random units hotkeyed into control groups they dont belong it (for example my main army group (4) ends up with all my production buildings in it, then I click and set all their rally points, have to remove them from the control group and end up wasting 15 seconds re doing control groups.
Does anyone have any exercises, testors or just anything I can practice to get my hands more using to quickly hitting the correct keys?
A minor thing I noticed while compiling a stats document, for me to learn from, was that the PDD benefits from the +2 Building Armor upgrade although according to the tooltip and in-game help screen it has no Structure attribute.
The upgrade text for Building Armor is "Upgrades the armor of structures by 2".
The auto-turret, which also gets the +2, has the following attributes: Armored – Mechanical – Structure
The PDD has: Light – Mechanical
The Liquipedia also stated that the +2 works on the PDD.
A) Shouldn't the PDD get an extra structure attribute ? B) Should the Building Armor upgrade text include the PDD? C) The +2 should not work on PDD. D) I am missing something...

Just a quick question, are we allowed to have more than one account per game? My brother and I both want to play on separate accounts so that we play the campaign at our own pace.

You'll both need separate keys to have multiple battle.net accounts... but granted nobody has really seen how the single player works, I'm not really sure on that front.

this is the one and only problem I have with one key = one account, family should not be forced to play on the same account or buy 2 games.
Well for the first one you could try lowering your graphics settings...as for the 2nd one I don't believe so. Tell your opponent his computer sucks. :p
Anyone do 6 rax reaper on DO since the anti-nerf on rax and reaps? won 2 in a row(diamond league) vs terran yestserday doing it (no proxy rax, in base,). This cheeze is SO strong vs standard builds. They dont even have a marine by the time you are in their base, and if they dont get a tech lab immediatly for a marauder they probably lose. I'm gonna keep doing it on DO vs toss and terran, until I lose- ill post all of the replays(wins and the loss) when im done .
I Am asking because I am tempted to change my units hotkeys. Since I Got my new keyboard, the "A" is basically right below 2, so it requires really weird hand positioning.

Its always been this way for multiplayer since war2. I suspect for the campaign you can have multiple saves on one account so that should not be an issue, but if you want to do multiplayer at the same time, you need 2 accounts(and 2 computers clearly)

I Was wondering how you guys did it.
Actually, 1a is a little bit awkward the way I hold my hands over the keyboard. I 1->a with my ring finger, and then 2a 3a with my middle finger hitting the number and the ring hitting the letter.
I didn't actually notice that's how I did it until you mentioned it >.<
I want to ask something. I have WoW battle net account thats used by my bro as i quited it 2 years ago. I wonder if i register my SC2 on the same account will i be able to log in to SC2 when my bro is loged into WoW, or ill have to make another BNet acc for my SC2...

I would definitly make another account just to be sure..Even if it's possible know (I don't know), Blizzard-Activision is capable of removing it later.
I have a question: I want to buy a stacraft2 in english. If I buy the french starcraft2 box, will I be able to turn it in english (EU) version ? Or should I buy the starcraft2 digital version (EU-eng) ?
I'm having trouble as a Terran player walling off on scrap station. Alot of times lings or early zels can slip through. Is there any good wall off that doesn't use too many buildings? Or is it not worth to wall off?
Throwing this post here as I don't want to make a fully blown and beautifully formatted post yet until I'm sure there's an audience for it. I'm considering starting a weekly (or bi-weekly) show discussing the tournaments of the previous week or two weeks, along the lines of a highlights display. SC2 has a ton of casters already, and a ton of tournaments. I have a ton of free time during the summer (and a while beond) and like watching tournaments.
Things I'd be looking to discuss: Up and coming events in the following weeks. Events in the tournaments of the previous weeks. Highlights in the tournaments already played.
I have quite a pleasant "BBC-Newsreader" English accent - although I need to get used to speaking to my computer. This just seems to be a 'gap' in the Starcraft 2 community that I think I can fill. Anyone interested in seeing something like this?
Does anyone know the proper windows media player plugin or codec needed for the downloadable content on the SC2 site? The "alien enigmas" and "preparing for the worst" http://us.starcraft2.com/dominion/index.xml
Is it realistic possible for a new player who haven't played much SC1 and work/study to actually try and play this game at a competitive level (nothing like koreans of course)?
I was trying to decide if it worth giving this game a try since it will be released soon and everyone will actually start the game together instead of getting a game that is already running for long time.
Kisra, I love watching tournaments but just don't have the time anymore. I would definitely be interested in a tournament highlights/recaps show. I mean, think of the number of people who watch ESPN SportsCenter for highlights, but don't watch every single baseball game. It sounds like the same thing, and I think it's a good idea if you can do it well.

I believe banelings should be voted the most underrated unit in the Beta. Even over infestors, archons, carriers etc. Their power is such, that it could make people shout how op they are, as it happened with mech before.

Thanks for the feedback, most people I've poked with this idea seem to like it. My friends tend to come to me anyway and see if I spot anything that's going on.
To tangent onto another topic entirely - is anyone else going for that Dark Voice avatar? The requirement is 1k wins with each race. I'm considering going for it simply to A) Get me to play a lot of games, and B) Get me used to losing.
As one of the people still playing Starcraft I, I have a lingering concern about the sequel of the legendary game. For us the old guards, the old gamers who were around when Slayers_Boxer, the terran emperor, was dominant, we cant help but think that maybe just as Boxer's ,Nal_ra's or Nada's reign ended, so would ours over the new Bnet. Would our fingers still be able to adapt to the new mechanics of Starcraft II? Would we still be able to keep up with the ever changing strategies? Or would it be better for us to save face, retire and let a new generation of gamers take our place.
Should I just accept 2gate zealot rush as standard for PvP and start doing it myself?
I really hate Zealot rushing in PvP, as its not even an artful and somewhat micro-intensive like zealot rushing to deny a Zergs FE, but I'm starting to feel it is 100% necessary.

I don't think it's the standard, and it's easy enough to counter. I gate at 13 and unless my opponent double gated at 10 and I scouted their base last, I normally have time to prepare enough to zealots to defend an initial rush.

I normally can hold it off too, but deciding to be the one who doesnt 2gate never seems to net me any advantage, and certainly no tech advantage that matters. If somehow they hugely blunder or something, sure, but not likely.
It just seems like a 2gate zealot rush that doesn't sacrifice economy would be the best PvP opener.
I haven't seen much discussion recently about high ground advantage. Does anyone else still feel like it is a huge missing piece to this game? Have people just decided to just accept it the way it is? With all of the metagame changes that have happened in the past few months since this discussion was a major topic, do people think that it is even needed to help solidify defender's advantage?
I personally feel like not having high ground advantage takes a lot of unit positioning out of the game, but I'd like to hear if other people with more experience/ skill still feel like it is needed.
I would like to see a 33% chance of a miss shooting up. This way maps would have much more distinct terrain, such as Brood War. Recently, I have been experimenting with the fast roach/ling build. Should this be referred to as the "Pedal" build?
^^ An example of this is Dimaga's build in the King of the Beta Tournament Day[9]
Regarding tvps, I feel other than going reaper, t is entirely on the defensive. There seems to be only 2 viable opening:
wall + non-stop mm until 4-5 off 1 rax even before cosider reactor whilst going 1-1-1. obviously does not work on scrap station.
The other is mmm off 3 rax (2 is not enough vs an aggressive p) but it is again very reactionary to toss tech, need to call scan since 2nd 50 energy cycle to check voidray timing to have the correct mixture of units as it is otherwise auto-gg. It appears the whole point of going mmm is to hold off toss rather than finish off toss, and anything more than 3 rax means no tech and late expo. All the while toss has boosted eco advantage and most likely map control until t have stim/shield done.
The only times mmm has been 'end-game-like' has been on kula with 1 scv then straight lift to the gold expo, which allows 5 rax power maurader pump very quickly.
Is there another way to play t? More bunk? Fast expo (whjich I haven't tried much vs p but is OK vs z)
not sure if this was already mentioned here, but the beeping during countdown is worse than that at artosis' recent interviews.
Seriously, it blows my mind how can anyone even think about implementing something like that? When there's absolutely no need for it?
I'm afraid the game won't by 100% done when it's released. When beta came I was surprised how good it was for a beta, but it doesn't seem to me that the game changed to better much till now. Not talking about balance or technical issues but the game itself. In phase 2 I expected almost final version of SC2, but i get beeping and ????? map names instead. Oh yeah, I forgot all those fancy achievements!
Is anyone able to to use the patcher? Cliff notes:
- I have a showmatch on US server in 1 hour. - Up until the latest US patch, I've always used the base.data switcher to switch between US and EU servers using one client. This no longer works for some reason.
I tried to patch, it didn't work. I tried doing it manually, and ended up with a broken EU version (cause it did patch itself, sorta) and a buggy US version (basically, when I click login the game closes itself without an error message - some others have this).
So I download the US version (this is 2 hours ago now), it just finished... but it won't patch - the patcher doesn't even pop-up.
Any ideas? Do I need to download each patch manually? I can only find links for patch 9+

Something I noticed about the voidray, it now seems impossible to get voidrays to shoot each other without taking damage. This was previously used to keep charge. This is pretty annoying since most units can simply run away from the charged voidray.

Does the SC2 AI and SC2AllIn AI differ all that much? I get ripped apart by both pretty badly on very hard. Wish they'd change up their builds a bit though. Sick of seeing roach hydra.

Yes, open a map in the map editor, set opponent to computer, and go into the import module (in one of the modules at the top, I think the hotkey is F9). Then import the triggerlibs folder from greentea (dont import the project or cprojectfiles, just the triggerlibs folder). Then save and click test map and voila, playing vs green tea without using a launcher.

white-ra recently made a point "... Frankly its strange that a unit that costs 125/50 looses to a Marauder which costs 100/25." (talking about he use of stalkers in early toss games)
looking at protoss arsenal in early game i kinda think of - yeah terran for some reason always forces toss to play much more defensively because of 1. the multiple options terra has very fast and 2nd because some of these units are incredibly strong against toss units with no upgrades. which in fact toss reaches way later for much higher costs in resources and time invested. - sorry but this still bothers me that such balance made it into release. i mean at least the time concussive shells needs to research could be lengthened to prevent kiting early on. but right now it looks like terrans get their upgrade pretty much for free and the other races need to pay dearly to keep up. - ok enough QQ for today

Stalkers can shoot air, so the price is perfectly logical. That being said, I do think Mauraders are imbalanced.

White-ra is a damn good player, but i think hes wrong here. Yes with concussive shells the stalker cannot kite the marauder, but post blink it can. Marauders don't regen health. Marauders dont attack air. Marauders cant instantaneously travel 8 units in any direction regardless of terrain. Nothing strange about the fact that a unit that costs less kills it in a straight up fight. Most normal thing in the world.
I preorderd sc2 on gamestop.com. Collectors edition.
So i went to my gamestop and asked if i could pick mine up there, he told me that online orders at gamestop.com are completely different from at a store. So it looks like i wont be going to the midnight release and instead will have to wait about 3 days till i get the game......
Any ideas? I've thought of cancelling that preorder and preordering at my gamestop but he said they were out of collectors editions.... idk what to do now. Anyways, im just posting this here in case someone has some idea that will allow me to play campaign on release. idk AHHHHHH

Convince a friend to buy it and then jack his and play it until yours shows up.
Didn't know where to put this question so I figured general would be best.
1.What time should I get to gamestop if I'm going to the midnight release. 2.If I'm not, could I still get it when I wake up? Or is there a good chance they will all be sold out?

I would just wait the three days lol. I'm on summer break and have nothing to do but play assasins creed and post on TL. Honestly three extra days wouldn't matter that much to me. (unless you want to be the first of all of your friends to play it then spoil all of the story to ruin their lives.)
1) Exactly how much bonus damage does a unit take while warping in?
2) How much damage does a carrier gain per air weapons upgrade? is it +1 per interceptor, so +8 per upgrade in total? If so, does a +3 air carrier, at +24 damage, benefit more from upgrades than any other unit? Can't think of one that gets more than that.
Didn't know where to put this question so I figured general would be best.

It depends on where you live. In an urban centre you should probably go at around 8:30 - 9:00 and be in the top 15. (if your lucky) Or you could be really crazy and just lurk around GameStop all day then hang outside the doors for the next 6 hours. And for question 2 like I said it depends on your area's gamer population. In Toronto for example probably not.
SCwiki has it listed as 3+1 vs light, is that a typo? Is it really 3 + 1 vs bio?
Also, do zealots get +1x2, or just +1. Do Collosi get +2x2 or just +2.
Edit: Also, for cost, do speed upgraded Void Rays beat Vikings? If not, what about if fully charged. I've noticed people using phoenixes against vikings occasionally, since their high speed lets them stay in range of the viking... but speed upgrade void rays would seemingly do even better.
Edit edit: Do interceptors get +2 per upgrade since they have 2 attacks? Meaning that each air weapons upgrade would add a whopping 16 damage to the carrier?

Marauders get a slow which makes doing almost anything early game ridiculously hard.
You cant attack because he'll slow you and when you do(if you do) attack you arent running away if you start losing. If youre bringing regen back into and putting it together with blink then medivacs heal far faster than shields do, marauders also get stim(double fire rate and slow lol wut)
It should be a fight atleast slightly in the Stalkers favor, not a one sided rape because Marauders dominate every early game(and most late game with supporT) ground units the protoss has
is anybody know will we able to have multi accounts in offical starcraft? Because we can't in beta. will be the same as beta starcraft 1 cd = 1 b.net account?
First post for me but have been on TL since april.
I was wondering since i was in the Beta and already have that client installed. I was going to buy a digital copy of the game but does that mean i have the re-download the entire game again or will the beta client just patch into the real client?
I just got the game (physical box version). Preordered from Amazon (Germany). Unfortunately when you try to install it it says "please wait untill the 27th" and changing the date doesn't change anything.
Hi, Is it just me or anyone else feels that Blizzard made a lot of big changes at a very late stage in the beta? Like moving around infested terran spell, big changes to battle.net etc. I am a bit concerned how this will affect the release.
For example, if you move a spell from one unit to the other you would have to update the AI scirpts, possibly rebalance the single player campaign etc. So how much can they really change after the release without major rework on their part?
I work as a software developer and we would never have dared to made so major changes this close to a release date if it wasn't totally necessary. So what I wonder, how finished is SC2 really?

You'd be deluding yourself if you thought it was complete. Bnet is utter garbage atm and probably will be for the forseeable future; I honestly don't think bnet will be finished until at least the first expansion pack, but that's probably too optimistic so I imagine it will take them until the 2nd to get their shit sorted out.
As a side-note, I came to this thread expecting to hear epic news about July playing SC2. Needless to say I'm disappointed.

I like bnet's new setup. I personally think that Blizzard is stepping it up.
Not sure if this was discussed before - will the two expansions have fewer pre-rendered cinematics than Wings of Liberty?
If not, does that mean they started production of the cinematics for the expansions roughly at the same time as they started work on those for WoL? Would they really have enough time to generate the same amount of pre-rendered content for the expansions as can be found in WoL if they didn't start at the same time?
If WoL will have more cinematics than the expansions, doesn't that mean Blizzard made the decision to separate the campaigns a long, long time ago? Otherwise how would they have known to work on movies for the terran campaign and not for the others?
I recently remembered how much I love Blizz cinematics and I'd love for the expansions to be jammed packed with them. What do you think are the chances of that happenning?

I could see both expansions having about 15-20 minuets of cinematics because hell, thats all the sc2 dev team has left to work on. They already have WoL which is the core, all that's left is campaign and maybe 1-2 units/buildings per expansion.
The cinematics team is separate from the dev team. They create cinematics for all games, including Diablo3. Apparently it took them a year to make the marine cinematic for sc2, which means they probably won't have time to create stuff for the expansions unless they started way early. So your reasoning is just wrong.
There been some talk about Kerrigan redemption and human transform/cure well in this video Starcraft II blizzcon 07 at 4:24 you can see there doing Zerg campaign with a re-Zerged Kerrigan so my guess becoming human is not going to stick. This video been out for a while but you see what mean it kind answears that recent question.
I have some questions that i've not been able to find an answer to yet. I hope someone here would be kind and answer these if there is any offical information released about the subjects.
1) Will battle.net support clan/team creation at the release of Starcraft II?
2) Will the Starcraft II single player campaign offer a gameplay with all three races or only Terran?
3) Are there any plans to introduce a feature that allow the users to watch a replay together with other players?

Maybe the tech tree picture is outdated. Does anyone know if the zerg tech tree was in some phase of the beta like this?
Saw you post this in strategy and was just going to post this here as well, i checked the other tech trees and they are completely correct, so I'm REALLY hoping this is a change and not a mistake. To me zerg feels like it is a little weaker in T2 vs Terran and teching to T3 takes so long you can not contain long enough most of the time, but if you do manage it you are all of a sudden a force to be reckoned with.
If they changed it like this i actually quite like it, because that means it gives zerg more of a chance to contain long enough to get ultra's / brood lords out.
My friend successfully overran me with lings most of the time when we played. I checked his build order and it turns out he's doing a 10 hatchery, 10 spawning pool build. It seriously made me lol, then I was ashamed.
Hmm if it was never this way then it might even be possible that its not an error but a change. I'm hoping for this change also. If zerg only quick techs to hive units this can still be countered via air units and other strats, so i dont see this as an overly unbalancing thing. They can also balance it easily with changing hive morphing time.
corruptors cost 150/100, ultras 300/200. abundant minerals are used for powering, crawlers, queens (ultra and corruptor transfusion) and lings (melee upgrades already there). Also, ultra/queen drops or nyduses would be cool :p
Does anyone know of a script that pulls unit/building stats from the data files so that you can always have the latest and most accurate stats in a format that's easy on the eyes? I can get all of them by opening the editor of course, but it'd be handy to have something to do it for me.
Insider: Can you tell us anything about new units or abilities you tried out that didn’t make the cut?
Dustin: We briefly tried to add a new ability in the beta test called Frenzy, which was cast by the infestor. This ability allowed the zerg to move and attack more quickly, as well as ignore the effects of stun, slow, and mind-control attacks. However, during testing we found it was most useful when cast on the ultralisk, so in the end we just gave the ability to the ultralisk. We’re always looking for ways to eliminate unecessary complexity or needless extra steps, since it’s such a fast-paced game.
Is he just talking about the immunity they gave the ultra in the last patch?

Really though, this is going to take like 5 bases to support, That build is SO gas intensive. I was thinking more along the lines of going Muta/ling into quick cracklings / broodlords / corruptors. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, first lets see if this isn't just a mistake because people have pointed out that there are several mistakes in the unit writeups (frenzy on infestors etc.) as well.

Yes.
But since they're Zerg they just made it a passive ability rather than a spell because Zerg players can only macro, not micro.

well at broodwar you needed like 4 bases as zerg to support ultralisks lol
hi! could anyone help me out please. Day9countdown party should be starting sometime later today but I cant figure out when it starts. Event schedule say: 01:00 CEST. which cant be right? that would mean its already started or it starts the 27th. Anyone know in how many hours it starts?
Just to come back on the infestation pit, All the mistakes in the Zerg units have been corrected. It even includes the undocumented patch change of NP being nerfed to 12 seconds. Just an observation because the tech tree is still the same.
Quick question. I always thought that there were 3 servers. US, EU, and ASIA. I plan on buying the SEA version of the game because I can't read Chinese. I've then since heard that SEA will get access to the US servers over time.
My question is, does SEA have it's own exclusive server? Or does it coincide with the ASIA server?

I preordered a copy but it's gotta get shipped here so until then I want to play at PC bangs ASAP^^
No need to answer me, I'm in one now and it's not possible, atleast not as of 2am July 27th. But I do have a new question...
Can I have two clients, one from NA and one from Korea, on the same computer? Reason I'm asking is because I preordered the NA collector's edition but it won't get to Korea for atleast 1.5~2ish weeks so I'm really tempted to just digitally download the Korean version so I can start playing ASAP and have one account on each server.
Anyone else having problems with the latest ATI drivers and the game semi-crashing (not really, but error reporter pops up and desktop resolution gets reset to something tiny)?
EDIT: It appears the crashes were unrelated to the driver update (I reverted). They seem to have disappeared now, but I'm not sure what caused them... The only thing I could think of, is that I had notemania running (with "notes always on top" on), but I'm gonna sleep now, will see if it happens again tomorrow.
Anyone else getting weird black polygons/trails during cinematics? It's totally ruining the game and I have no idea how to fix it, I'm on DX11 using a nVidia 130M, it's supported and there's no reason for it to not work. It's only like this during cinematics though. I've looked through support and nothing is helping, does anyone know what could be causing the problem? EDIT: I've been told by a friend that it's known as "artifacting".
I live in India and belong to the southeast asia region. But I want to play on the EU region.I am digitally purchasing the game and am there on the battlenet right now ... and they give me this warning:
Game Region Warning
Retail copies sold in India (your account country) will connect to the Southeast Asia & ANZ game region.
Is this of much importance? I played the whole beta on the EU server and never had any problem. Plus the EU client is 20$ more than the US client.
Will my choice of playing on EU be a problem in the future till cross realm play is introduced?

And I was wondering, what race is a good race for brand new players to SC2? I was thinking of playing Zerg, along with 'toss and Terran.
[And I hope my Battle.Net account didn't get deleted ]
It's a tough decision, but I think most people agree that Zerg isn't too great a first race to get you started off. Protoss has much more forgiving macro to new players, but basic Terran army micro, composition, and tech tree are more straightforward. I would suggest whichever you feel the most comfortable with after randoming for a few weeks, though, to be honest.

I wouldn't count on watching them on the same day, if I were you. Those are 10+ hours of video material. On top of that all people involved need some serious rest now. But check tomorrow, I'm sure they'll try to upload them as fast as humanly possible.
Guys, there are some tweaks to zerg, have you noticed? The creep spreader nerf is gone and take 15 seconds again. There is no thread for hidden patch changes?

SShhh! Don't ask these questions on the forum. Can't you see the moderators have gone bananas on people trying to figure these things out?
edit: <3 mods, you make TL sane. But these are some legitimate inquiries.
I am still waiting for my copy to arrive, so at the moment I am using a guest pass. I have also disabled the Facebook integration as best as I could - SC2 settings, Facebook privacy settings, etc.
Now, my problem is that when I go to the Add Friend tab I can add them by game id and use the Facebook feature but adding by email is disabled for me. Does anyone know whether this is because I am using the trial, because I have disabled Facebook (sounds retarded but that's Activision we are talking about) or it's just some sort of a bug?
On July 28 2010 09:45 Megalisk wrote: Sorry for being so chobo, but If I don't care about playing the campaign..do I still have to buy the two expansions.
If you have any plans on playing multiplayer once the expansion is released, then yes you will have to obviously buy it. When Broodwar was introduced it added new units to multiplayer, and the same thing will happen when blizzard releases the first and 2nd expansion for sc2.
i havent found a better suited thread to ask and also dont wanted to create a new one for that; can someone help me finding a rapidshare/megaupload/sharingmatrix link for the EN-US installer? i already bought the game and all, but my connection have some problems dealing with p2p and im downloading it at 40KB/s from blizzard servers, that will take forever to finish. But i can to download at speeds over 500KB/s from a rapidshare or megaupload server, then id like to try it. i have found some links so far, but there is no description about the region and I've bought the key for the north american server, then i need the EN-US version of the installer.
Ugh, until they change the gameplay to be a bit more micro-oriented like SC1, I'm going to play the original more. And some balancing stuff. *CoughTERRANCough*
No medic? This makes lings > rines, and Zerg > Terran. By the time you get to medivacs, you'll either be overrun by zerg or be out-teched. No Goliath? No pure mech v toss (gols)? No Dark Swarm?
Flash is NOT going to be pleased. Also, no more SK Terran :'-(
Does anyone know if you can play SC2 on integrated graphics? My laptop has generally good specs but no graphics card. I would like to play SC2 but certainly cant afford a new PC.
On July 28 2010 12:52 Kolu wrote: When should you put siege tanks in siege mode and when should you keep them the way they are by default?
Any time you are engaging a small number of armored units (3-4 units or so) where the splash damage won't be of any use tank mode is usually superior. Against a single target, a siege tank will do more damage per second in tank mode as long as the unit is classified as "armored". This includes buildings. If the units or buildings are clustered enough that the splash damage will hit multiple targets then siege mode will always be better.

In my experience SC2 will definitely not run on integrated graphics, even at the lowest settings.
On July 28 2010 15:13 acie wrote: can someone tell me if ffa is still unranked?
I have integrated graphics (intel GMA 950) on my laptop and it runs sc2 on the lowest settings. Man, it was a close call though. It's playable (really fun actually), but forget 3v3 and 4v4.
I know its been discussed lots so I wanted to add it in here. Are there rumors that custom hotkeys will get added in a future patch? I love the grid hotkeys but attack move as T and combining that with shift for multiple waypoints and stretching my pinky something fierce.
Hi everybody! I have a quick question: You probably noticed that some achievements in SC2 campain are based on "doing something in x minutes". However, there is no in-game clock so it's pretty difficult to know how close you are before time runs out. Any suggestions?
Go fast, other wise you could check what time you start and go roughly from there? In game time is equal to real time for achievements not for build times

Is this a joke or did you just not play multiplayer yet? Ball of stim marines still massacre lings, and really you'd have hellions for the lings anyway.
It is especially hilarious since everyone is talking about how TvZ might be imba in favor of T b/c of mech play.
And wth do you mean more micro-oriented? You mean micro-managing your macro by individually clicking on all 10 rax?
I have a question about the login/aka but didn't think it was necessary to make a new thread about it. So here goes; On your e-mail account you make a Starcraft aka~~
Question 1: Does it matter if make CAPS or small letters? Example I take name HeLLo, can people still find me if they type hello or is the name only original with the different letters?
2: If I created an account witha guest pass, I can still use it when I buy the game?
I've heard that a good time to expand is while you are pushing, but I don't understand the logistics of it completely. Is it a better idea to push with less production facilities so 400 minerals will naturally build up? Or should I cut a couple units during the push to afford the Command Center?
for sc2 tourneys like king of beta and hd invitational... it the gameplay speed on fast or faster?
i tried playing on bnet today and default game play speed seems to be on faster all the time... odd since cracked beta i played seemed to be a lot slower
If you have finished the campaign completly is there any way to go back and play the other choice in the missions where you had two choices? If so how?
Hey, I haven't bought SC2 yet, and since I'm behind a proxy for still some months (only during weeks luckily) I was wondering : with all this activation stuff, will I be able to play single player when I'm behind a proxy or does it require connection with some Blizzard server too so that I'll have to wait week-ends only for both multiplayers and solo mode ?

1. I believe the search function is not case sensitive.
2. I've heard varying things to both degrees, I believe you at least have the option to make a new account which implies that you can use the old one but I'm not sure.

There are numeric identifiers so multiple people could have the name liquid'TLO. I would imagine that one of them is actually him.
Does Starcraft 2 have a lag in online matches vs other players? Sort of like in Warcraft 3, where if you did ladder you had like a 150~200 ms lag time every move, no matter how good your internet connection was?
I heard that if im from Latin A. and i buy the US game i cant get in the ladder because of being from LA, is this true? cuz i havent seen any official info. about it.
Galaxy Editor - is the current version within the game folder the full version of the editor? Because it was said earlier that the full version is going to be sold separately?
quick question: How to make the achievements pop up on the score screen or after the game? I remember in the beta the achievements pop up in game but I did something to make it pop up on the score screen but i can't find the setting/forgot how i did it
I tried asking on the official forums but I didn't get any good responses.
theDragoon- I don't think you can access what achievements you earned for a particular match. However, the basic profile page will list you achievements starting with the most recently earned. From that you can probably judge which you just got.
My question now ~ Are most of the current Brood War pros going to switch over to SC2 soon, and is korea in general going to start a new pro league or have kespa switch over?
I got ripped off, I thought I was getting the NA version, but the one I got from the retailor was SEA version. My friend has NA version and is there any possible way we can play against each other?

Blizzard promised that SEA players would be able to play on NA in, what was it, 60 days? Something like that.
By the way, is battle.net stupidly laggy for anyone else or is it a problem on my end? Was fine up until yesterday night or so...
for those that bought a hardcopy of the starcraft 2 game... can someone please send me a trial key to rohtarantula@yahoo.com ? In return I can offer my forever gratitude or give access to the alpha+beta version of Natural Selection 2.
On August 01 2010 02:51 Liquid`Jinro wrote: By the way, is battle.net stupidly laggy for anyone else or is it a problem on my end? Was fine up until yesterday night or so...
Lagging quite badly for me as well, it's completely sucking all the fun out of it. Trying to micro is just extremely frustrating in its current state. Never had this issue in beta. You'd say they could've accounted for the necessary capacity... Ugh.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask a question... but what if your playing a team game and you drop? Shouldn't the loss not be counted? I was playing with my friends a 4v4, and i dropped out during the loading screen, they were forced to quit because they weren't going to win a 4v3, they left within the first 5-10 seconds but it still gave us a loss. I remember SC1 made it so that it was a draw if u left in the first minute or so, will anything be done about this?
P.S. I played a 1v1, and i dropped, it said i had 9 games played but it didn't count the drop as a loss, so according to the system I'm 6-2 with 9 games played lol
Apoc, ever since WC3 blizzard has given you a loss anytime you leave a game no matter the time. It's to prevent people dodging matchups/maps/players they don't like in ladder.
On the positive side, your allies could still control you even tho you left, and if they win you'd get a win as well.
Yeah i see where your coming from, but it should be able to detect if someone drops and give you the option to forfeit without a loss or something. Playing 2 people isn't so easy as in wc3 since u use your own resources to make stuff with the player who left, but your whole teams gains the minerals/gas he mines (and i dropped because of something with SC2, i was still on Skype talking perfectly to my teammates so it wasn't my connection, if it was my connection i would accept it).
Maybe I'm asking for too much since it will probably get abused one way or another =/
Hey all, Im just looking for people to play SC2 with, tired of doing games with random people all the time, I have vent,ts, and skype if used also! If you need someone to play with add me my character name is Sabre and my character code is 359! Let's grow together!
QQ (quick question): how many production buildings can Protoss support off one base? And how many on two? I usually either go 4 gate/3 gate robo. When I expand, how many more production buildings can I support?
man i've got over 900pts and am still in plat, hilarious. i'm playing top diamond players often anyways so i'm not too bothered wonder though, when i'm promoted how many points will i have, i hope it won't be like a 100 lol t-t edit: 950pts platinum -> 240pts diamond T___T
