as i've already stated in the first post... anything announced with a prize over 10K ? anything in writing? if so post it up! it'd be cool to read! MLG has a lot of money on their hands. They're pretty much the biggest and most successful thing there is for the US esports. StarCraft 2 on the other hand is going to be the biggest game that has entered the scene in a long time with a huge following. Naturally this will result in MLG taking the opportunity to take a piece of the SC2 cake which will result in far more than just a few >$10k tournaments.
They haven't announced anything about the tournaments yet, all we know right now is from the recent Live On Three interview with Sundance, one of their top guys. Look up the episode at djwheat.tv.
Virgin Gaming hasn't given out any information regarding StarCraft 2. If they do venture in to the pc gaming market it is very likely they might set up something but that is left to be seen as no one really knows anything about their intentions. I'd assume if their first year goes well and Richard Bransom deems it profitable they might expand in to Quake/CS/SC. (Which would make them look far more legit as a real esport thingy in the eyes of hardcore players.)
Don't forget Blizzard themselves. They will no doubt host very lucrative tournaments in the US as well as they have done in the past.

I remember watching a stream with Dj Wheat and one of the head guys at MLG and he said that they would be doing lots of stuff with SC2.

Hopefully once retail hits we'll have better players in NA than what we had in beta. In beta we were nothing compared to Korea or even Europe.

in a simple answer, no, we are already leeching off of the Asian and European scenes for quality players.

dunno where you've been man but sc2 isn't out yet on earth

Is this seriously a question by the OP? Of course the competitive scene exists, I didn't know that it was up to Virgin Gaming to decide whether or not a competitive scene exists.

The issue isn't the competitive scene. There are definitely competent players, and a good community. The issue is funding it. Numerous e-sports ventures have failed horribly, and MLG is the only real hardcore gaming thing going right now. MLG should do quite well with SC2 as they've said they will. As for Virgin, they're only casual console games. I haven't seen much of their stuff, but they're probably more like CGS without CS.

this question is being asked so early, the game isnt even released yet.
there are loads of plans, and a butt load more to even be thought of. the game has barely been marketed for NA.

The biggest tourney of beta was played on the NA server. But really I could say "Is there even a competive scene in korea?" The game isn't out yet. Wait for release the competive scene will come

You don't know anything if you think MLG is ignoring SC2, you obviously missed the KOTBH series MLG did and the interview Live on 3 did with Sundance (CEO of MLG) where he said they are working hard on getting SC2 on the circuit....

It's the beta. MLG has announced that they will have SC2 matches once released, similar to their current Halo scene.

I see it taking up to a year after launch of retail for any pro leagues out-side of Korea to really get going - but I think unlike with BW, this time around it could actually happen that SC2 gets pro scenes outside of SK.

I assume things will improve exponentially in regards to competitive SC2 after its release.

LOL! This. SC2 will be picked up once it is released and all the newbs jump on the band-wagon. It has the biggest following of any competitive game, why wouldn't MLG pick it up?
|
The people saying NA doesn't have enough quality players well I only really have one thing to say. Go back and watch matches from the first OSL season - were the Koreans all that good back then? Nope. It took them a good 2-3 years to refine to the point of Bonjwas appearing and 'career' gamers.

MLG picking up starcraft will be exciting. I actually could have gone to MLG for Tekken this year but didn't have enough money. MLG is def bad ass.
woah link to the tournament in chicago?

don't worry.. NHL games will pale in comparison.. just not yet.. give it a couple months after release, be patient, continue to support the community with tournaments and sponsors, however small.

I mean, MLG is no doubt going to do a lot of things with it, but that is not enough. I want people to realize, how big it was the HDH and it was a first time for HD and Husky, and it was still beta. Now look at this in perspective. They did not announce anything specific yet, but I can assure to youthe second one is going to be much much bigger.
This is only to make you realize, if two very committed guys are able to pull something like that, the very first reason is because the community behind this game is strong, and man, it is getting stronger and stronger every day.
I have little or no doubt the SC2 eSports scene will explode in no time after the game is being released.
