As someone who is NOT a self styled Progamer and doesnt want to play competitively and is considered a !%&$§! Noob half of the time on B net i consider it horrible to allow only Starcraft-Fanatics to criticize B Net 2.0. That´s like if only Tree-huggers are given the possiblity to complain about the oily mess in the Gulf of Mexico!
Yes you have heard correctly. Even Casual Gamers hate the new B Net. Even the %&$§"! Noobs miss Chatrooms. I find it frustrating to talk with strangers in chats floating in the air. The Chatroom is the anchor in a Multiplayer System. Starcraft One had it, Diablo 2 had it, Warcraft 3 had it, so why don´t we see something basic and fundamental in B. Net 2.0?!
Blizzard don´t listen to the raving self styled Napoleons of RTS. Think of us the Casual Gamers too. Without Chatchannels there is no real Community and the options to talk with friends are very limited. Secondly i think it odd to ban the possibility to play with people on other continents. In a globalized world that doesn´t ring true. Let people buy for maybe 10 Dollars or Euros an option to play and talk with people in the other four corners of the world.

I think the biggest flaw in eliminating chat rooms is that it simply makes you spend less time in the game. So many times have I finished playing a game, got sick of playing, was ready to log, but got sucked into a conversation in a chat channel. I'd then be refreshed/inspired/awake/etc to play another game instead of logging off.

Blizz/Activision are HUGE companies in a capitalist system that know how to get the most "bang for their buck" out of customers. The mainstream consolized "spend spend spend spend spend" crowd outnumber dedicated pro-gaming users 20 to 1. Just enjoy the game and shut up, seriously.. it didn't work for L4D2, it didn't work for MW2, infact, it those games sold FAR more than their predecessors. I'm disappointed as well but when it comes to huge corporations in lovely capitalist America the voice of the minority are silenced by the sound of money. So how do you advocate getting any change? Or is your strategy "bend over and take it"?
That's exactly what you'll do (if you buy SC2) and the only thing any of us can do. So get ready to squeal TL.

Thank you infestednuke for telling us just how much influence the competitive community has on Starcraft's development. I see you are up to 2 posts. Very good.
By the way have you ever heard of macro?

Starcraft Broodwar was my first game, I have played it online for years, I now have started playing Starcraft 2, and hope to become competitive, or whatever, you know thats the aim. Regardless, the thing that draws me to blizzard games more than others, are the amazingness of the games ofcourse, however it is also supported by a massive, MASSIVE love for the community, how involved everybody gets in the game, how much theorycrafting goes on, ive watched nearly every caster or commentator in all recent tournaments etc. Its bringing together people who love the same thing which makes it amazing, you get a chance to talk to people about your experience and share it together, which often you can't do RL. I mean obviously gaming is becoming more mainstream, but come on guys, we know we fucking HEART games; its so important to have like minded people to just have BANTER with. Chat rooms are a must in my opinion for the above reasons, also i think that inter-region is neccessary aswell, I myself live in the UK, but I have friends in North America and Asia, and so it would SEVERELY hinder my gaming experience if I couldnt play with them or against them... "my 2 cents" thanks Rain x

We need to do something to counteract blizzards stupid decisions, that obviously 95% of the community dont like. 1star on amazon (+ everywhere els), sounds like a damn good idea to me.

On the topic of a player's inability to create a custom game with a title and password..
it is really going to suck if this is going to be gone.
I remember in war3 it was really fun playing or spec'ing "1v1 obs" games and you could easily KotH with complete strangers or if you wanted to spec live games if you were tired of laddering for a while.
Blizzard makes a huge portion of its money from the "casual" gamers aka noobs, who aren't hardcore and don't play several hours a day, but love to keep up with the gaming world and play the latest "hot game." What about those custom games that are named "1v1 clan tryouts" etc.? Obviously, recruiting for your clan in custom games isn't exactly the best way to create a pro team, but for casual gamers looking for clans, this was a great way of getting someone who previously was not engaged in the SC community to join a clan and be a part of a community (similar to how chatrooms were widely used to build clans).
Bah.

Thats the answer they gave us in the OP.
"We're looking into it, no plans at the moment"..

But he didn't say that they have "no plans at the moment." He said the exact opposite, actually.

I was happiest about the hinting and teasing that Diablo 3 could come out relatively soon. Kinda given up on Bnet 2.0 not being garbage at release at least. Blizzard seems to have gotten a little too big by now.

"Starcraft will have the most basic ESPORTS functionality at some point in the future...unless we change our minds again."
Oh ok no problems than. Where can I buy my european and asian versions of this game in the mean time? Id ask someone on BNET but I keep getting spam from giving out my email and I cant join my group chat channel till next year.

Diablo 3 will be awful on bnet2.0 as well though. The game itself looks insanely good, but if you can't socialize outside of games in the rooms, or plan ahead before starting a game it will ruin the experience.

Does anyone find the tone of the reply somewhat condescending?
"Hahahaha, you're hilarious ... " - I expect higher levels of maturity from someone who is officially connection with Blizzard.

[ed] So Frank was out for interviews in EU it seems (?) and said something to the effect of "no chat rooms" but there would be chat for guilds and groups. Which is more or less what was said before. That it would be more about getting people into focused discussions instead of just having free for all chat systems. In any case, I don't know a lot about it. Personally, chat rooms are soooooo 2002.
Group chat and guild chat? THAT IS NOT CHAT CHANNELS.
God, I just wish they would give better answers - I'm sure SOME of these things will be added but they just give such infuriating answers.

Actually, I'd trust the CM. I feel like the VP is going to be too busy running the business to be involved in the day-to-day game development tasks. The CM, on the other hand, is going to be in regular contact with the Devs and it's his job to know every little details about Blizzard products.
