The majority of their "pipe" as you put it is almost certainly WoW players, and the fees are high enough that paying for server bandwidth I don't think should be a problem.
Plus, text chat <<<<<<< 3D games in bandwidth use.

Do you really want chat rooms?
Is the sky blue? Is the pope catholic? Is Jaedong gonna beat Flash?

Man, after 2 yrs of following this game I don't think I can possibly take any more abuse from this company. The constant delays, lack of information to their BETA TESTERS and now their obvious disregard for what the fans want is just too much. I'm not buying Starcraft 2 unless Blizzard is sold to valve and they step in and make it lol.
Edit:
adding to my list of Blizzard sucking "Oh yea we are gunna buff the ultralisk so it gets used more"... Next patch: Ultralisk Hp reduced from 600 to 450. Really?

irc chat requires like no bandwidth
they had chat that worked fine like 12 years ago with sc1 and d1

God their approach to Bnet 2.0 has been so off base. From the horrible leagues and ladders rankings to map publishing almost nothing to right with with new bnet and it makes me seriously reconsider buying SC2 despite the game being quite fun.
They preach making a bnet experience that wants to connect you to the community but I only feel connected to other people when I see a "player found" as my next game comes up. For any new RTS player venturing into SC2 for the first time this is going to be hellish as it is next to impossible to make new friends. Blizzard feels it needs to makes things worse by introducing a convoluted friend system (that hopefully does not make it into release).

I wanna call this guy's home and tell him "do you really want ppl to buy starcraft 2?" (with that face).
then hang up!

I DONT FUCKING UNDERSTAND BLIZZARD!!!
They spend so many years to make this game perfect and now for small things that we need to able to enjoy 100% SC2 they just act like stupid assholes...
But you're not excluding the possibility – you're just saying there are no current plans for it?
There are no current plans for it, and if you're a European player and you've got friends that are in another region that you want to be able to connect with, we definitely want to support that. It might mean that you have to access it through the US client, but those facilities will definitely be available in terms of, if you want the US client, go to the US website, download the US client.
WTF? Im a RTS player not a guy that pay to play every mouth and dreaming about that im a magician or a paladin... I would never pay for this. Blizzard you already have so much money dont destroy SC2 just because your greddy.
Another thing I thought you'd promised was chat rooms within Battle.net...
Nope. No plans for specific chat rooms at this time. You'll be able to open up chats direct with your friends, and when we add clans and groups there'll be chats for your clans and groups, but no specific plans for chat rooms right now. Do you really want chat rooms?
Yes we want! The customer have allways right!
Are you coming back to London?
I'm not sure where I'm going to be for the launch, yet. [Grins]
People in England when you see this guy plz kick his ass!
On a slightly skewed angle, as far as Blizzard's concerned, how important is Asia and the Asian market?
For Blizzard, every market is important, where we're shipping and publishing. All of our fans are important to us worldwide.
Fans are important??? Now i see that fans are not important for Blizzard just money. If that was true why you dont listen this comunity??? Is not so hard to that.
I hope that the reall gamers that really wants to play and true love this game show Blizzard how much they are wrong. If not use facebook, wikipedia, youtube, twitter and lets to terrible terrible damage to Blizzard...

|
oh yeah hf with this game......i stay with wc3 for sure now.
no chat rooms......i cannot believe I CANNOT BELIEVE
|
Frank Pearce just did terrible terrible damage to Blizzard's PR
|
Activision Blizzard blows so hard now There's no way the old blizzard we know and love would let something like this happen. I guess their afraid of casuals getting upset if they trash talked or something in chat channels. I cant think of any other logical reason they have to keep them from us. A brain dead monkey could integrate them and they refuse to do it.
|
I don't see the point in not buying the game. Buy the game, and play the game, just actively do something to make sure battle.net 2.0 goes down the right track instead of it becoming a mess.
|
Make battle.net worldwide, but keep leagues region-based for better latency. All the hosting seems to be done peer-to-peer anyway(for god knows what reason, they are removing so many possible anti-maphack and broadcasting features by doing that), so when you create a custom game you should have the ability to invite any of your friends worldwide to the game. You won't make a good community system by splitting it up into regions. Do you think facebook would be the force it is right now if there was a separate facebook for every country?
Integrating an IRC network or a XMPP-based chat system is the simplest thing to do and it enables you to keep connected to your gaming friends ANYWHERE.
There really is no good reason for doing this Blizz. I can understand removing LAN games for keeping control of the game and making piracy harder, but region-locking and no proper chat support just makes absolutely no sense.
|
lol... I may not actually buy the game at this point. This is getting fucking ridiculous.
Don't see why we'd like chat channels? No potential for even semi-LAN type play? Listen to every voice my ass...
My only hope is that its easy to get Lan Latency for it at least or something similar, though I think it'd be a ToS violation lololol =((
|
The good news is that blizzard is so stupid that they have constructed their game so that a few half decent coders can whip up all the missing features in 2 months and then no one will have to pay any attention to the blockheads.
|
What the hell aren't they installing cross-server access for? I don't understand their complaints about latency, I, and many other competitive gamers, have played on both servers, and there has been no more lag for me, a USA citizen, on the EU servers than on the USA servers.

Dammit. Why didn't I think of that one? I went with the Kanye West meme. Well played, sir. Well played.
