That was terrible, I feel bad for Milkis. The show was so biased and the personal attack on Milkis was just straight up unprofessional.

Milkis can talk about how he isn't a journalist but all he is doing is showing is ignorance to how much influence he has in the community. Being the dude that translates stuff means you are in the spotlight and your opinions hold weight. If he can't understand what that means or doesn't want to take responsibility for what he says then he needs to shut the fuck up.

I agree
What he translates is taken as is pretty much and that led to this controversy before both parties were able to clear up the discrepancies. The controversy seems so much smaller now than what it actually became and this probably would have been averted if people showed some restraint to let EG and TSL clear things up before going into witch hunt mode.

It's not him the one who should know what are his responsabilities. He knows. But it seems other do not.

Posts in TL = Translation
Twitts = Opinion

To bash someone because of his opinions (no matter how "in the spotlight" he is) is just so BM, specially coming from someone representing a big company.

Now people with influence cannot have an opinion?

Completely agree bro.

It was Alex using every speech trick in the book to talk for 10 mins in a long-winded intelligent sounding manner without really saying anything....

I guess there is a reason every bureaucrat and politician talks like this.....it works

milkis post was put up as a community post by TL so perhaps it is TL who should take responsibility for the content. AG is looking at it from the wrong perspective

No,no,no! That's not what we said. You can have an opinion, you just have to clear it with us and get an official release on the situation. I'm going to write them an e-mail now to make sure it's okay that I tell everyone that I like pizza and see if it's okay that I wake up for my job in the morning.

In the end, Milkis translating a PlayXP article has nothing to do with EG's behavior. You can't scapegoat random people in this kind of controversy, no forum poster should be held responsible for the outlook that most people had on this. I also think Alex's idea of furthering the global market of ESPORTS doesn't really correlate with him picking up a player without contacting the coach, and I feel like it's something drawn up to defend what might seem to be less than culturally sensitive behavior.

tbh I liked the show, but was very disappointed in DJ Wheat's moderation. I don't care who you are, but when one of them talks three times more and the other gets interrupted on several occasions, there is something wrong......

Alex brought up a very valid point in calling forum posts and threads on TL.net (more often than not in the community news section) as journalism. It may not be journalism in name, but in terms of impact on the community itself (both the readers, posters, professional organizations and players involved), it is indistinguishable from actual journalism. There is actual money involved, and to say that the future of eSports is at stake isn't an understatement considering how all of this is still being "figured out" and how the ramifications can be so grave if "shit isn't sorted out."

While Milkis also makes a very valid point of "this is sort of responsibility is beyond my pay-grade," there's no escaping the actual influence he has (which is exactly what Alex points out is an attribute of journalism). To make an extreme example (and I will say explicitly isn't a reference to anything imagined or otherwise), it would be possible for a TL.net poster to make a libelous claim which later becomes revealed to be false, but the damage already being done and irreversible to an extent. The recourse for the individuals being wrong in such a case of libel would have little to no recourse beyond an honor system of sorts (a public apology, etc.). Even in an instance of a less malevolent example of say, simple incompetence, the damage would still be the same and public opinion even less sympathetic to those wronged (it was an accident, they shouldn't be so mad).

It's really an unfortunate situation for all involved, but I do think that actually addressing these issues would help eSports move forward as a whole, especially since the solution inescapably involves the community. We're standing on an opportunity here, and the way to capitalize on it is to take responsibility together and become stronger for it.

Thanks, my thoughts exactly, except very well worded

Yeah. Basically perfectly put.

i completely disagree. milkis, at the end of the day is a forum poster with a cool pen for an icon, nothing more. he isnt paid by TL, he holds no official job with them and they dont have his social security number on file. TL is JUST A FORUM. this idea that its anything more is actually just plain bull.

its a forum that is very active, shares a name with a team, and is used by a lot of teams to promote content, but its still a forum. if i choose to go onto the EG site forums, post my news about teamliquid (the team) in a well written and structured post, is any libellous claims i make EG's fault? nope.

it seems that EG as an organisation expects TL (the forum), to hold itself to higher public relations standards than it does hold itself, and thats just retarded.

He's backed by common sense. Puma is a free man, who was being paid nothing.... Milkes would have the "community" have a say in what Puma does.

Its called communism... and in some extreme case totalitarianism. People should have individual rights, and Puma does. If Puma is not a SLAVE.... he is free to do this.

Alex and Wheat have just been around and know that the "world" doesn't work like that.

Free market.... welcome to 1920. Sorry if feelings get hurt, but there's no crying in SC2 or business.

(also... why should EG apologize to GOM? How are they effected?)

Milkis didn't have a ton to say besides apologize to the coach and GOM and to respect Korean coaches by going up and asking them directly if EG can take their star player. I feel sorry for Lee but he should have contracted his players and talked to them about this beforehand.

That point may apply to a lot of posts, but to be fair to Milkis, he was only translating an already existing korean article. It was PlayXP that should have been doing the journalism in that case.

Is this the future of the relationship between EG and TL (sc2 forums in general)?

Treating translations as journalism just because you did something and a lot of people got the info reading TL?

Not gonna get far IMO

Yeah that's exactly what I feel too. I think it's a shame that this thread goes the way it does. EG didn't blame or attack anyone. EG even complimented TL so often and ppl in this thread just prove the whole opposite - stupid tl-fanboyism and one sided argumentation.

Don't get me wrong I love TL, but some ppl in this thread are mad.

Alex was arguing that anyone who posts something presented as an observation on Team Liquid is a journalist. That a private person's (who is not a journalist) tweets should be representative of both sides. That was the logical conclusion of his argument.

I'm sorry, but if you agree with that, you are not too bright.

With this argument itself I agree with djWheat. One could talk about this topic for like 5 hours and this is neither the place nor the time to do something alike.

He still explicitly said that he doesn't want to attack anyone. But so many people react like "omg he attacked Milkis, I HAVE TO HATE HIM". That's plain stupid. I actually give a shit about this discussion but followed it because I was bored. At the end I can conclude that I really liked EG's presentation tonight.
But the most striking thing about this show and the discussion of EG signing Puma is the hate of people against EG. Moreover many ppl on TL seem to simply adapt what they see as "TL's common opinion" rather than making their own thoughts about a subject.

Whatever I feel like there's a trend that more and more ppl are adapting the, what I call, "TL's common opinion" instead of using their own brain.

What little respect I had for team EG just vanished. Not because of Puma transferring, that story is too much of a mess to even know what actually went down, but because of AGs way of acting today. I didn't thought it possible to be able to say so little with so many words and getting so many ad hominems in there at the same time

Soldier on Milikis and thank you so much for your translations.

Milkis posted the news prematurely. Every single person that says "EG should have talked to Coach Lee first" is basing their opinion on that premature news. EG had every intent on speaking to Coach Lee but Milkis delivered the news before it happened. Obviously, the news was around in Korean first so there was a serious netizen discussion about this over in Korea, but Korean's don't have much influence over EG. When Milkis translated the news, EG took a shit-pie to the face. If even one person decided to not watch EG Master's Cup or purposefully avoids EG's sponsors as a result, EG has suffered as a result of this situation.

Milkis claims being a neutral party voids him of any responsibility, which is true, but doesn't change the fact he has slightly tarnished a companies reputation.

Instead of taking Alex's approach of posters being held accountable, the companies should be responsible for controlling that information. Ask Puma and Coach Lee to confidentiality and the news would have only surfaced when the story was complete.
