GLHF.tv is a streaming group dedicated to researching and producing high quality live streams and coverage of StarCraft 2 Tournaments. During the SC2 beta we pioneered streaming technologies and saved tournaments and events with our last minute production capabilities. The streaming technology researched here at GLHF has gone on to help others in the SC2 Community, including the Day[9] Daily and DJWheat.tv

The Team:

I'm TheGunrun, founder and producer of GLHF.tv.
+ Show Spoiler +
Hi I'm Justin "TheGunrun" Ignacio, an ex-Command and Conquer fanboy/modder/commentator turned StarCraft 2 streamer/caster/enthusiast. I have a disorder which makes me want to have the best stream quality all the time, but I never take it too far I've casted with the world's greatest and try my damndest to bring you guys entertainment and quality production. The stream tech that I developed and brought over from C&C has played an important role in moving forward SC2 streaming/coverage. No matter what, I never stop trying to find ways to improve the stream or overall live experience for the viewers.

I'm Martijn, commentator for GLHF.tv
+ Show Spoiler +
I have offered commentary to a myriad of games, such as Quake3 (1v1,tdm,ctf,RA3,TA), StarCraft, WarCraft 3(vanilla and dota), Call of Duty (1,2,4/modern warfare), DOA4 and others. I listed Quake 3 first because that's where my roots are as a commentator, in fps, not rts. I put down StarCraft for a very long time until I was linked to Tasteless' commentary for GOMtv which rekindled my love for SC.

I hope you enjoy our coverage, we're working hard to improve it every day. As it stands, I'm the most knowledgeable caster when it comes to SC2 that GLHF.tv has to offer, which is why I consider it my job to make sure the casts aren't just entertaining, but also insightful. I used to main Terran but switched to Random during phase 1 beta to get more familiar with the other match-ups and I have no regrets. Though it's far harder to adapt to game changes, I really feel that playing Random has given me a better understanding of the game. I encourage you to try it some time!

I'm Scan, commentator for GLHF.tv
+ Show Spoiler +
I'm Trevor "Scan" Scanlon, SC2 commentator and all around gaming fanatic. I began casting in late 2009 with TheGunrun near the end of the lifespan of Red Alert 3, and transitioned over to Starcraft 2 with him shortly after. I am a graduate of Emerson College with a degree in Film Production (though I know more about TV production). I've moved to the Los Angeles area to follow my career, but you can find me streaming a myriad of games on GLHF under the banner of "Scananigans". I am an avid player of many game types, primarily focusing on the Street Fighter scene.

My dream is to bring GLHF to bigger and better places, and will do all within my power to make it so.

As veteran commentators from other games, we want to thank everyone for the warm welcome and we hope you enjoy our coverage. GLHF streams a whole bunch of events and, as usual, the more e-Sports coverage, the merrier as far as I'm concerned :D.

Also, I'd like to extend a personal thanks to the GLHF.tv crew! They took 2 hours out of their day to explain to me how to setup significantly better streaming quality (including advising me on hardware/software. they did the complete works).

I hope they update the OP with a little about themselves though. They are definitely awesome fellows 8>

A very good stream; sometimes the commentary isn't mindblowingly insightful but that's expected from a non-starcraft player. Like the music too =p

also the stream like, never crashes or lags more or less.

I really like your stream. Quality is great and not even a single lag spike. Work on your SC2 knowledge because youve got huge potential. Also idea of music in background is great )

Haha, watched Idra vs. Nazgul. Commentators and observer makes me extremely sad. I'm glad you covered that Blistering Sands strat on your Day9 series because I would have not appreciated it nearly as much from just watching these guys' cast.

On the upside, if these guys are helping fix Day9's stream, that's excellent news!

I was just about to comment on that commentary (found HERE) and watching it I have some suggestions for improvement:
  • Nazgul's "wall-off-strategy" was totally unknown to the commentators and consequently it got commented the wrong way. Sure he used the same 1-Gate-Chrono-aggression as the other games, but he built a Forge pretty early and walled himself in completely. That is a major difference. If you want to cover "the big names" you might want to learn their strategies and Day[9] is easy enough to watch. He did explain this "wall off and use backdoor as exit" strategy in one of his casts.
  • Consequently the comments on Nazgul taking down his own back door rocks to open up an exit again was commented the wrong way. ALSO: The two commentators were looking at "different destructible rocks" and consequently the comments were unrelated. Maybe stick to ONE view by having one follow the camera of the other?
  • When I try to watch the replays I get loads of bugs which close my browsers (Firefox and IE). I havent had any problems of this sort when doing it from other VOD sites. Since you said you were using your own wild combination of Hard- and Software to make it work some errors might have crept into the replay site?
  • The really cool thing about watching a Day[9] cast is that he makes a prediction about what is going to happen next and he is right most of the time. We cant all be him, but getting it wrong after something has happened really shows a lack of knowledge and experience.
  • EDIT: While watching the VOD above I noticed something: You keep moving the screen ever so little every half second even during a battle. That makes following the action harder.

A few years back, when I hung out with a bunch of other guys in a LAN Café to play games, some guy awarded me the title of "Captain Obvious" ... and he was right. I always commented on things after they happened. As a commentator you do not want that title and you should be aware of the danger.

All other grievances with the music and the choice of game to cast I have written in the ZOTAC cup thread.
If you cant say what you're meaning, you can never mean what you're saying.

I've been filing the co-caster slot occasionally for glhf.tv, and just because I know thegunrun is waaaay too modest to do this about himself let me fill you guys in a little. When he says "an old Command and Conquer commentator" he means "the old Command and Conquer commentator". Sure the competitive c&c community was considerably smaller, but he is/was their go-to guy for streaming, which is why he's spent 2 years fine tuning his streaming setup. That's where the ridiculous quality from the stream comes from.

As a broadcaster/streamer even EA themselves recognized his abilities, sending him to Germany and LA to cover events for them.

I wasn't there for the matches that you guys brought up, Zeeone was co-casting. This was their first cast together. Though it's not an excuse per say, their synergy is bound to get better rapidly. Dual-commentator casting means having to focus and track way different things then solo-casting. I give my personal guarantee that at least this aspect while get considerably better as they go. I had to cast a different tournament for a different broadcasting station saturday and ran into the same problems because I was casting with someone I had never met before (ie. talking over eachother a lot), the synergy will improve.

Meanwhile we're teaching thegunrun everything from maynard transfer timings to things that don't even really apply much like manner pylons to 1up his general starcraft 1 knowledge, so when he sees things he hasn't seen in sc2 before he can still make insightful deductions.

He's no day[9], but he is a wellrounded and skilled commentator, willing to put in the time and effort to make his stream a meaningful addition to the list. Now I'm going to go into hiding so that when he reads this, I won't have to reply to his "omg I can't believe you posted all that", "that's so embarrassing", "they didn't need to know about all the c&c/EA stuff!".

As a final note, I'm personally excited about the evolution of glhf.tv, we would very much appreciate your support and appreciate your criticism and help in making the commentary better.

First of all I appreciate anyone that contributes to the community. You really don't want the SC community to become like the fighting community. Trust me.

Second, while their commentary might not provide as much insight to a seasoned player as Day[9]'s commentary,.they are doing their best and they are improving for each week.

Btw TheGunrun is allowed to have terrible taste in music - he is Asian. ;P

Just got one thing that i really want to be gone in the next casts - the background music-
Some people might say it´s so low volume anyway, so who cares? I do! since it´s even more annoying to have a bad song running on very low so that you can´t hear any ingame sounds and it takes the focus away from the game. This usually ends up in muting the stream.

Please get rid of the music and keep trying to learn game aspects, then you might have a decent cast in the end. As another guy said earlier in the thread, try to not become "captain obvious" telling what happens all the time, a good thing for every caster to think about.

Now i just wish you GL HF

The quality and the commentating experience these guys have is amazing.

That being said, there are 2 big things, which need to improve.

First of all, the knowledge about the game is far from what it should be. I think or hope that will improve each time with a bit of effort put in.
The second is knowledge about the community. It is essential to have a bit of background knowledge of the players to fill voids throughout the cast e.g. waiting to join a game, waiting to start and game and so on.

BTW I got a problem with the stream. I constantly get a black screen after several minutes watching and have to reload the site. I can watch every other livestream fine. I dont know if i miss sth but perhaps anyone had a similar problem ans knows how to fix it.
