As everyone that watched glhf.tv even once can see the stream quality is amazing and the only thing that needs to be improved is the knowledge of the casters about the game itself and maybe even most importantly about the players.

As far as i can see it it's not that hard to spend 30 min before start of the cast to check liquipedia so you can write down a few bits of information about players and just plug them in the cast. That makes casts really usefull.

Damn it, they're on to our plan *paranoid*. I was actually in the process of making a notebook in which I'd keep track of the players builds in various match-ups. Thanks for the feedback! We're doing out best to improve daily.

Tonight we're hoping to cast 2 Razer Domination tournament games on http://glhf.tv namely
April 16 19:30 CEST, 1:30pm EDT, Strelok vs Nazgul
April 16 21:00 CEST, 3:00pm EDT, Ret vs Nazgul

The DeMusliM vs Jinro game is in between those, but because of the overlap we probably can't show you any of those games unless Strelok vs Nazgul ends really quick. Posted a more in depth analysis of the match ups here; Razer Domination thread
As much as my game-sense allows me to say anyway.

People have been having issues finding when we're streaming, so I got myself a twitter account just recently to make it easier for everyone. I hope to get more followers soon
You can follow http://twitter.com/MartijnMumbles for updates on what I'm casting and what other streams interest me to get a heads up on what's good to watch.
I suppose now I truly am a web 2.0 media whore.

Good coverage by these guys. Top marks for that.

Commentators don't really know whats going on though. Might be an idea to learn a bit more about Starcraft 2 for future casts. Don't need to be Day9 but knowing the difference between a 2 gate and a gate core and pointing that out for example should be a given.

I like to think we've at least mastered that much of the game to say the least. If even something like that isn't becoming apparent in the cast, perhaps we just need to stress buildorders more and worry less about scouting and skirmishes? Does that sound right at all?

In short, because I'm an idiot and forgot who Kennigit told me to pm about having events added and becoming a featured stream. We will be soon hopefully, TL allowing. I'm digging through my log files!

Well here I think we can see where you might be looking at it the wrong way. What makes a good commentator is someone who knows how to look at everything without talking about everything. You need to treat each match as if you were playing it, if that makes any sense, and commentate on significant occurrences as, or even better, before they actually happen.

For a very basic example, a protoss player is sending out 2 stalkers to put pressure on his opponent, so the camera might focus on that. However, as this is going on, he might be researching warp prism speed and could therefore be preparing some sort of drop to follow on from his early pressure. You would hopefully spot this and you could quickly move the camera to the robotics bay and show how far the upgrade is to completion. You could then talk about what this might mean in the future. As the camera shows all these things, you could talk about how successful the early pressure is/has been, how the opponent reacted to the outcome of the battle and how prepared he might be if a drop were to come.

As you can tell, I'm not very experienced with all the multitude of build orders and possibilities but if you want to keep getting better as a commentator, you'll always need to keep improving your understanding of the game in order to be able to make these sorts of predictions. You'll find that as you get more experienced you'll be feeling more confident at making predictions like that and as a result your viewers will be grateful for the added level of insight.

Finally, I don't think I can emphasize enough how important the camera work is because the viewers have no control over it and expect the observer(s) to spot what is happening on the mini map and show it. Again, this is where being a good player comes into the equation since being able to read the mini map quickly and efficiently forms part of the skills required to succeed at Starcraft.

You're probably already aware of these things having commentated RTSs before, but really wanted to get across the kind of insightful commentary that the people here are always very grateful to hear. It's all well and good having good matches to commentate but if the level of commentary doesn't increase as the viewer count might, people will be more prepared to look elsewhere.

We're not worried about a high or low viewer count as it is, we're well aware that it's a new community we're walking into and that there's a certain picking-order we have to oblige to until we get more seniority. Which we respect. As you noted we do have a lot of experience commentating different RTSs, but nothing is as unforgiving and technical as SC/SC2 in my book. Aside from a rare few, if we count different games as well I'm positive that we've casted more matches than almost anyone here, sadly that just only goes so far with SC2.

It being beta does make it harder to cast, for instance, many replays of just 2 weeks already are outdated with the style of play evolving so fast. Points to improve on for us are better tracking up the upgrades and paying more attention to the tech and less on the army.

Furthermore I completely understand what you're saying with predictions, but it takes a lot of confidence to say what these competitive players are going to do, before they do it. In many cases you're commenting on players that are simply much better then you in these tournaments. Especially seeming we're the "new guys", I'm not sure they'd even appreciate it. It is something we're very aware of and will hopefully transition into "during the midgame".
As an example I've been hyping thor/medivac harass since the patch, but even as I was looking at Strelok making the armory I still had a hard time throwing it out there.

What I can promise you is that we're doing our best to learn a lot more about the players and their habits. For instance we've started taking notes of every match cast just recently to find trends in each players style. We hope to rapidly improve and I think we have been up to now.

There is 0 focus on any game aside from SC2 (even though it looks like I might get sent to Copenhagen at the end of the month to cover the SteelSeries esport challenge cod4, in case people that will attend that want to say hi), we're dedicating all our time as casters and players to SC2 right now and we are dead set on getting to the end of the long road to top level commentary.
