Haha I have also noticed this. Really funny. The first time you hurry to check the minimap and find one scout checking your base when you are worried you done with... These sounds players probably going to get used to. :-)

i agree with you, it's pretty annoying to hear that a simple "our forces are under attack!" should be enough and it just sounds like the units are exaggerating ahaha

I've gotten used to most of the warning voices, but "Mayday! Mayday!" from the banshees still freaks me out whenever I hear it.

The issue isnt that the units all make different sounds. No one cares about that. The issue is that the sound they make implies they are about to die, even when they have an overwhelming advantage.

I find this quite annoying.

I see a couple of separate issues being discussed in this thread.

1) The "We're in combat now" notifications are largely retarded, especially the Protoss ones. This isn't a gameplay issue, since it'd be fixed just by recording different sounds to play.

2) A few people are saying (some even seriously) that units should calculate whether they can win the battle before deciding whether to whine at you. I hope a large majority of us can agree that this makes no sense at all.

3) Some people are debating whether there should be a second set of sound effects for when your units actually die. Not sure if I have an opinion either way on this, though I'd call it theoretically debatable in either direction.

I agree with you guys, "WE CANNOT HOLD" and stuff isn't very manly.

But in BW, I had trained myself to think "OMG MY SHIT IS DIEING" every time I heard "Your units are under attack", and now it just does that for me.

It's not too big of an issue, but it would definitely be better if there were was an algorithm that determined whether you get a warning or just a "we have engaged" warning.

It doesn't have to be complicated either, just make an algorithm that counts the number of units around the unit being attacked. If the number is lopsided in the enemy's favor, then have the unit freak out, otherwise just play the stock phrase "Your forces have engaged the enemy".

Simple, easy, solves a problem of units being pansies, and doesn't require having to bring back voice actors. It would take one day to program at max.
