I think a better measure is when one of your units die the tone changes. As if you count units then blizz would have to write in a bunch of code displaying what beats what in what numbers

I mean then in anything vs zerg then it will pretty much always say that omfg 20 lings vs 10 zealots run away!

I agree with a lot of people in this thread that this is a minor issue, but that's what makes Blizzard's games so great; their attention to detail.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

omfg 20 lings vs 10 zealots run away!

And thats way better than right now.

Two solutions:

Better voices. Would require more voice acting, etc.
Better awareness: Simple commands, like if the unit is not attack moving and there hasn't been a command given to it for X seconds, it has the ability to cry out. The next one is to see if the health is critical.

The other one is unit awareness.

Well can you really blame them? Afterall they are in space fightingn giant bugs who wants to kill everything and some religous fanatics with big robots and the person who supposed to be in command (you) is not really too worried about the death toll...pretty frightening shit if you ask me...

it's just sloppy programming to use "we're losing!" slogan for every battle-case.

either make them say something truly generic, like "your units are under attack / attacking!", or use different messages depending on how the battle is going (a lot more difficult).

Man, just played a game and I right-clicked attacked my SCV on a spawning pool and it said "Is that really the plan!?"

The "we cannot hold" is definitely annoying and should only be played when your units are actually losing. If they're winning, a nice "our units are under attack" will suffice.

To be fair ... that marine had a gun.

As for the topic ... yeah this stuff is a minor annoyance sometimes, especially with how dramatic some of the phrases are. I think the individual phrases are ok in some instances ... like a medivac having it's own unique phrases. I think all combat units should have a race specific general phrase.

Edit: Though it's a trap from the BCs is awesome.

Or better yet, instead of playing a generic message if the unit is attacked, have the unit play one of their "attack" phrases. Each unit in SC have a set of "attack" sound clips when you right-click on an enemy (although it doesn't happen with attack-move). Blizzard could just use those sound clips if a unit is under attack and they aren't grossly outnumbered.

Seriously, there are so many easy ways to solve this problem it's almost sad. I'll be pissed if this simple problem isn't solved by retail simply because it adds a lot of personality to the game and takes little to no effort to implement.

Man, they killed the heroic image of a zealot for me compared to SC1 and 2... In SC1, the zealots were brave with their whole "my life for Aiur" and now this -___-
