Neural Parasite on Probes and SCVs!! It works...

Hi,

i just found out that you can build protoss and terran buildings with an infestor that "mind controlls" a SCV or Probe. You can build a nexus or a CC (this takes a while since the SCV is only just 10 seconds under your control and you have spawn the neural parasite again and again). All units u are producing are counted on your zerg suply limit so you can get maybe some colossus or battlecruisers very fast without bothering to build many pylons or depots...

This is the ultimate humilation you can bring uppon your enemy... Just imagine a cloaked army of ultraliks under a mothership... I will post some pics as soon as i have time...

so if you parasite a scv or probe, build something.. it won't be yours? Or is it yours? Sounded like you have to maintain the scv while it builds or something?

I'm confused -.-

Wondering the same thing as iNcontrol. What actually happens to the structure when you lose control of the worker.. for a a probe building or scv.

Anything you build with probe/scv belongs to you permanently. So you can instantly build a nexus with the probe, then build up the protoss tech tree.

With the scv, the scv must remain on construction to build the cc, but neural parasite only lasts 10 seconds. So you will end up with an unfinished cc when your neural parasite runs out. He was saying that if you really want to make the cc, you should neural parasite the scv again and again after you loose control to keep building the cc.

i thought neural parasite only worked on biological units. can you cast it on all non-air units?

The second patch (immediately following the first that I don't think tl had a thread about) put neural parasite back to every unit. However now it becomes a channeling spell similar to Yuri's in Red alert 2. If the infestor dies, you lose control of the unit.

Additionally, siege tanks with ling/ultra could be pretty OP. I'm wondering if this will lead to balance changes.

edit: I'm sry it was the first patch that changed fungal parasite.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

This was one of the first things I tested with the infestor. Pre-patch, you could cast it on an SCV over and over until the command center was build, at which point that building was yours and any units produced were yours. It still works the same way after the patch for SCVs, but is much easier for probes because they only need to warp-in the nexus and it will build on its own. Either way, you can effectively get all three races with Zerg if you are determined to.

Some interesting notes about this functionality and its uses:
Once you have a CC or Nexus built, you permanently control them and any units that come out of them.

Unlike BW, all three races you control will share the same food limit (at least, I'm pretty sure they had separate food counts in BW right?)

This is a great method to test or practice specific attacks and targeting methods against different races. I used this method to practice targeting storm on mutalisks (and even after practicing it, I find storming air units fairly counter-intuitive / difficult).

When you upgrade the other races you control, most of the "upgrade complete" sounds will be from your original race. If the mind-control functionality is intended, this could be a bug or intentional.

Yeah I saw this happen with a game against my cousin. He parasited one of my probes and worked his way up the tech tree. I didn't even want to stop him because I was in awe of the mixed Protoss and Zerg he had lol

if you parasite a working scv that is nearly finished with the building do you get it once it finishes? Assuming you get it at the completion of the building...

nope inc you have to build it yourself

so it's only practical vs protoss

and not really practical considering you have only 10 seconds to build the nexus, i mean unless you got lucky with a scouting probe, most of their probes will be too close to their base.

also i think you can chorno boost hatcheries for faster spawning of larvae (both queen and natural production)

nevertheless it's still not practical unless you have a huge advantage over the protosss

I never tried that, but my guess is no. When you build a CC with a parasite'd SCV, you even own the partially completed CC when parasite is over. Since you won't own the building at the start, my guess is parasiting the SCV will not even allow you to work on the building. I haven't tried it myself though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Oh one other thing that may make this particularly useful. If you parasite a probe and have it build a nexus, you can use Chrono boost from the nexus on your own zerg buildings.

Of course getting a probe and a Nexus is difficult because of the 10s time limit. Chances are most of the usable probes are safely tucked away in your opponents base, so you'd be limited to building the Nexus in their base (you can't pick up a parasited worker with a overlord).

However, there is one situation that I would almost always take advantage of as a Zerg if I had the opportunity. Parasiting a scouting probe and building a Nexus near your own defenses could be very powerful indeed, if only for the chrono boost (particularly so if you can build it at a location you were planning to expand to anyways).

Yeah it seems the only ability not allowed by parasited units is to move into a transport or to load/unload units (if the unit is a transport)

Going by logic it will only speed up the queen production and rate of larva dropping. It depends on whether you can chrono an egg or not, if you can, then what i said is correct, if you cannot, chronoing the hatch will indeed speed up the production of the eggs.

Can a mod lock this thread, it's really not needed anymore.
