A thread to post the aesthetic or sound changes you would like to see in the final version of SC2. Yes, I realize this is beta and some of the animations/models/sounds are not final but as of now, this is what I'd like to see changed.
Animations:
Infestor - Terran Infestation I believe the bouncing eggs look too cartoony.
This probably shouldn't go into this category but I really don't like the red text that pops up on the left side of the screen when I need more vesmine gas or more minerals. I think blizzard should give an option for players to be able to turn that off
Helion Flamethrower - I just don't like how they look. I'm not sure how it could be improved but right now I think it looks atrocious.
Scan - As mentioned in another post, they just look silly right now.
Models:
Helion - They just look completely ridiculous to me. What's a dune buggy with a flame thrower doing in outer space? In all seriousness, I think I despise this model because the model for the vulture was so great and the helion's is....not so great.
Sounds:
Zerg - Overall I think the zerg sounds just need to be completely revamped. The Zerg overmind, or whoever it is telling me I'm out of minerals is very annoying. There's no need for you to tell me I' am out of "Mineralllllllzzzzzz." I get that Blizzard is trying to make them more "bug-like" and make their sounds kind of crawl under your skin, but right now it just makes me wanna bash my brains out with a lamp and overall I don't think the zerg unit sounds compare to the SC1 zergs. I'll go into more detail if anyone asks.

I think broodlords are quite ridiculous. I mean something that shoots spawn broodling?
|
The sound of the siege tank shooting (in mode) is soooo weak at the moment.
|
You know what would be cool is if you could make your broodlord fire banelings.
It would basically be a flying reaver :D
You get a ling, morph a baneling, "load" it into the brood lord, and wreak havoc!
The attack would hit like a normal baneling (dealing baneling damage), except at 8 range and from the air.
I wanted toss to have a unit that flies and shoots scarabs, but i guess the zerg could have it too...

on that note has anyone discovered a way to make any modifications to ingame sounds? something like, say if you wanted to replace a zergling sound, go in the Starcraft 2 folder, create the folders: \Sounds\Units\Zerg\Zergling\ and put a new file named with the correct name of the sound to replace, like Select_1.mp3 or

I hope you don't think this serious lol. This post is an insult for game develeopers all around the world haha.

I agree that the units look too cartoonish. It is especially bad for Terran on low settings, which I realize is kind of inevitable. I think the high templar, while bad-ass and final boss looking, looks completely out of place. The dude belongs in some Anime, not a game revolving around aliens and shit.
I think everyone misses the darker tone of BW. Too many things in SC2 have a much lighter, happier feeling; just take a break and listen to the T and P music. It's not necessarily bad, but it makes the game feel more carefree and whimsical like WC3, instead of the don't-fuck-around atmosphere of BW.

I would assume that all the unit sounds are in that file. While I have no doubt in my mind that the format will be cracked eventually, (or even possible to edit in the map editor, if Blizz decide to be awesome) it seems a bit early, no?

The Starport for terran
I hate how it looks, I hate how when it lifts it points towards teh destination etc. Just the most ugly building of all time! I really wish they would spend a few days and redo it slightly. The overall shape is just too ugly.
|
Oh my god sweet! The SC2Assets files are just MPQ's with a fancy extension. They can be opened, and (i assume) fucked around with in Ladik's MPQ Editor. Go crazy! ^^

Broodlord - In my opinion, they could make it better by launching an egg, then the egg hatches upon impact. I don't know, its attack just looks weird.
Helion - Just don't like this unit at all in every way.
Phoenix - Looks a lot weaker than the corsair.
I'm not sure if I like any of the Terran voices, especially the marine dying sound effect. =/ Only really like the Thor, Medivac and SCV. I liked how in Brood War each Terran unit had their own personality.
Besides all that, I think Blizzard did a great job with Terran and Protoss graphic-wise. Zerg looks a little samey throughout everything, but not that bad.

I've gotta say, the most aesthetically displeasing race right now is Terran. The Starport, the Factory, the Hellion and the Thor need to be re-done. The Hellion looks like a RC car I used to play with when I was young.
Can't really think of anything else that bothers me as much as this.

I thought it was like this when I first read about the Broodlord during SC2 Alpha. Kinda funny that broodlings could fly with broodlords then they just get stuck on the ground after they dive to their target.

I don't know why people are so displeased about how units look/feel/sound. All the reasons for displeasure are so vague and people are just saying things "need to be redone". Can anyone actually offer some concrete examples of HOW things need to be redone? It's easy to criticize without offering solutions, but it's more helpful to criticize and then offer suggestions. Explain HOW things can be improved, WHY such changes would improve things. Don't just say certain things make for an overall vague whimsical feeling and that things just "look weird" and things are "displeasing" without any specific reasons and suggestions for specific changes.

While I can agree that a lot of people are complaining needlessly, it must be said that it's often hard to describe why a certain unit or building looks or feels "weird" or "wrong".
As an exercise, try to tell me what has to be done to make the units in this screenshot look better. Unit X "has to be redone", "looks wrong", "is ugly", "is too toy-like" etc. are obviously not valid answers: + Show Spoiler +
Not that easy is it?

However, I do agree that Zerg voice need to be redone.

They need the voice of Zasz/Daggoth to do the Zerg adviser. IMO, their voices were underrated.

@kerr0r: Of course it's not easy that's why people are shoving the specifics onto Blizzard rather than being actually helpful. Peoples' issues and concerns can bring them together, but listen to their solutions and they'll be a much more divided lot...
On the other side of the coin, since Blizzard didn't mess up Starcraft, I also think it's wise to say something's wrong and then leave Blizzard to fix it. However if this turns into a Displeased With SC2 SFX & Visuals Anonymous....

make the siege tank siege mode attack louder. it sounds so wimpy when its firing now, as opposed to broodwar where it sounded like lightning striking

but yeah BW siege tanks own the hell out of sc2 tanks sound-wise
