Ok.
Sound:

Protos sound too WOWlike ... like ultra pumped up heroes with enlightment... compare Protos in SC1 who were more mistical high tech race and this new protos who are like heroic wow like high tech.

and so on ... biggest deference is evident with almost all units. Like mothership that sounds like NightElf seriously.

Quotes are usually not imaginative and stupid with exception of Thor he is funny but most of the quotes of other units just sound cheap and embarasing for blizard ... expecialy when you compare then to SC1.


Sound effects are really weak ... almost as weak as sound quotes. Just check ultralisk ... i mean what is that sound of attack it dont sound like gigantic blades striking at all more like pogostick going trought air... zealots psy blades sound weak and siege tank shooting etc.

All in all sound is just second grade for Blizzard standards.


Animations:

I think zealots should STAB not slash ... psy blades are more like stabing ... they are just weaving around with there psy blades it is looking stupid. Zealots stabed in sc1 as well.

Immortal death animation... i can see some blue gas going out when they die but it is not that much ... when dragoons die in sc1 they leave corpse with tons of blue goo. Would be cool to see some blue goo drop from immortals as well.

Colossal units dont have big corpses... when Ultralisk dies in sc1 it leaves BIG BLOODY corpse , same would be good for Thor and Colossus etc. It would be cool if it was added in sc2 as well.

Archon should attack with BOTH HANDS. His attack looks pretty weak.

Sentri Too much lasers in the game it dont look that cool as well ... i think it should be projectile.

Phoenix I would like animation of psy machine gun like scout unit had in sc1 when it shoots on the ground instead of twin lasers but overall not that big of a deal.

Design:

Mothership is just stupid ... it is so big it takes like 1/5th of the screan yet it dont look good at all... and it dont look like war machine at all or something that should be in multiplayer version of the game anyway.

Carrier looks terible... sc1 one did look way better and more powerful.

High templar cloaks are ugly. I understand you need cloaks to see what color it is but if they didnt add like tons of gold on it they could have added some psy eyes or trail of psy in color instead of cloak that looks just stupid.

I dont like zealot full in gold armor ... people who played sc1 will remeber that zealot didnt had that much armor in the first place ... only golden mechanical legs and small amound of armor no golden hats etc... but it is not big deal it dont look that bad just not true to sc1.

Helions it is cool unit but for me its flames etc just looks stupid... looks like a toy bad design if they are droping vulture they should come out with something original or just keep vulture.

Ghost i dont like the look of the ghost at all... it looks like someone took windersports athelete and gave him ultra large gun.

Broodlords Looks like flying mounts from WOW really stupid ... should have big spikes and huge ugly legs like guardian did or something ... this dont look scary ( they are strong unit but just dont look menacing as zerg should ).

Spore and Spine crawler. I dont like any of those ... Spore is hardly visible. They should make it look like a tower and not like asshole in the ground. And spine crawler is just terible ... underground tongue was way more lol and woot

That is all in all ... everything else i like regarding design and animations. But there are really few stuff that i like about sound however , maybe stalker and thor have ok quotes and few sound animations might be ok but all in all . music is meh , unit quotes are terrible and stupid and sound effects are weak and pathetic.

It would seem many of these design changes are merely people not noticing the change from 2d to 3d. While I do agree some of the new unit's look strange after playing sc1 for so long they kind of grow on you and I am not entirely sure that I'd like any of the new designs changed. Why people seem to not enjoy the new look is beyond me. I love the look of the new units and the updates of the old ones.

Sounds on the other hand could use some work, the siege mode firing needs to be boosted, and the hydralisk's silencer sounding attack could use a rework, and the most obvious is the damn "MinerALs" which I don't think anyone enjoys.

Animations are fine for the most part, in fact I really enjoy all of them. Yes the Hellion is alil 'unrealistic' looking. You might even say that the hellion requires a suspension of disbelief. Get it? The explosions, the unit deaths, burning zerglings and hydra's.. my god I could watch those all day.

Unit quotes are pretty amusing, poking fun at blizzard, the game and just having fun making geek and pop culture refs, kinda like every other blizzard game. Which is one of the reasons I enjoy thar games is the odd refrences to things like Portal and All your bases.

I think alot of the dislike is people just having issues with nostalgia. Yeah starcraft was great but if you actually give sc2 a chance most of it is pretty freakin sweet.

I will be severely disappointed if they don't do a major sound overhaul before launch.

It seems that my warning has come true. Year ago I said, don't forget the sounds guys and stuff, but people are always too busy with the balance issues and pro gaming micro/macro aspect of Starcraft.

Sure it's important, but what about important things like distinctive sounds and animations and aesthetics.... come on, that's like 50 % of the experience.. pro gaming or not.

Blizzard this is a call to action. Now is the time to listen to your fans and make this game the best in the universe :D

The terran background music sounds a little bit too country. It doesn't really fit the image of the terran race flavor-wise.

I liked what someone in the thread said earlier about the Terran and Protoss music sounding too laid back instead of brood wars "don't fuck around" vibe.

I've been playing a ton of SC2 (plat) and it's growing on me, but so far the only unit that has really impressed me sound wise is the reaper. I love it's attack sound and unit acknowledgement... too bad I play Zerg

So many terrible sounds in SC2 atm. Just being completely honest.

On top of that when you switch between areas on the map quickly the sound is WAY delayed before you start to hear it.

And double on top of that most attack sounds are exactly the same.

Triple on top of that, the sounds are a lot more delayed ('we are under attack', all that stuff) and less frequent.

The Protoss music in SC1 was easily the most laid back in the entire game. In fact, most of the time I forget the Protoss even have music in SC1 because it's so atmospheric.

The Terran music was much more exciting, but this is really just a matter of taste rather than quality. It's pretty obvious that the SC2 Terran music is very popular with a lot of people, so all you can really hope for is that Blizzard will add more Terran songs for those who preferred the original style. Personally I'm fine with the music, and have no real complaints other than hoping that the Protoss will get the rest of their songs soon.

The sounds and voices tend to vary in quality. The sounds on one hand are almost universally bad. Everything sounds the same and in many cases don't even sound all that threatening (I'm looking at you, Hydralisk). The only sounds I really like are the disgusting morphing sounds for the Zerg buildings. The voices seem to be a matter of taste, but I can't imagine anyone liking the voices for the Zerg Adjutant, High Templar, Archon, and Dark Templar other than an extreme minority of people. Those are just flat out bad; you don't even have to compare them to the original to realize that.

Animations:

invisibility armor, blue colour looks terrible.


Models:

Helion - not worth to comment.. completely like shit.

Carrier - looks like a horse head, big disapointment...please remodel super carrier by peter lee...

Dark templar - with cloak ability looks terrible.

Battlecruiser - looks too cartoony.change bridge.

Sounds:


Zerg adjutant - epic fail , if it's kerrigan voice canceled "starcraft 2"

the all protoss voiceover sucks , please return old voice ===>starcraft2.com.

edit:

siege tank :does not have any aesthetic , very coarse, looks metal stack.

terran : needs more metalic graphics and mettalic colours.looks too much toys..

Yeah, the sound in general in sc2 is lacking a bit. In sc1, each unit had a distinct sound to it that you can recognize very easily. I think out of all the races in sc2, protoss sounds are the best, and zerg sound is just plain horrible.

Blizzard needs a complete overhaul of sounds for the most part.

In terms of animation, attack animation really need to be quicker. The zealot and hellion attack animation is just awful.

In terms of how the units look, terran looks the ugliest, their units and buildings in general just look too plastic-like.

I don't really have a problem with the unit look, but what do you think about the incessant sound of the Overlords dropping creep? That's possibly one sound that could be turned down.

Maybe make the creep come out in 'pulses', so you only hear the sound every 5ish seconds or something.

Yeah, the unit attack sounds need to be a lot clearer and crisper. In SC1, every attack sound had contrast and it's easy to differentiate it from the background music. In SC2, the attack sounds don't have very much contrast. It's kinda hard to tell when a unit is attacking, let alone which unit it is.
