Hello,

Blizzard has confirmed that StarCraft 2 will be fully localized in few european languages:

- English
- German
- French
- Russian
- Spanish
- Polish
- Italian

Also for each language there will be full support , forums ect.

Full info : http://www.starcraft2.net.pl/portal/sc2/1/842/StarCraft_2_w_calosci_po_Polsku.html and screenshot

We have only screenshot of the press info, becouse it was today deleted (9:30 AM european time) from blizzard site.

Seriously though, I should make a petition to alert Blizzard to the existence of Esperanto.

We can probably expect to see at least Chinese and Korean versions as well, I'd imagine.

So if you don't see your country there don't panic. =)

Ugh oh God I was hoping it wouldn't come out in Polish -.- (but I guess it was predictable since wc3 came out in polish also)

The thing is in Poland you cannot buy a game in the English language version if there is a Polish version available. All the damned retailers and translating companies release games in Polish only. They don't even give you the option of choosing between PL/EN which pisses me off to no end.
All the games that I have in Polish have such corny translations and crappy VAs it makes me want to get into the foetus position and cry myself to sleep.

The only advantage in buying games in Poland is that it's usually 1/2 or even 1/3 the price for which it sells here in western Europe.

But I guess it's the same here in Belgium. When I go to the store all I see is French/Flemish language versions -.- no English option what so ever.

Guess I'll have to buy from amazon.co.uk like I do with all my games ;\

I really couldn't imagine that would work out. ;D

It would probably sell less than the English version.

EDIT: I expect that we will have the option to install different languages from the Battle.net service. It already does that for World of WarCraft.

Are you sure this is not fake? The screenshot states 21st of August as the date of the announcement. If that is the case, why reveal the news only now?

No Portugese? I always thought Brazil was a growing market as far as gaming is concerned, and Portugal must have a not-too-awful market share as well.

I'm wondering. Probably as always we will have only Polish version available, BUT Blizzard offers option to download games from their site if you have proper CD-KEY.
Does anyone know if you can which select language version you download while using this option?

Brazil sure is a growing market for all things, and SC2 will sell a few thousand copies here, but im darn glad its coming in english and not in portuguese =)

Translations are lame and take away from the inherent feel of the game.

And maybe because of piracy but blizzard has thousands of Brazilian players in wow, and its other games, if they cared about translating stuff into portuguese they would have done it long time ago.

I honestly dont know why gaming companies care so little about the Brazilian market, but after a while it starts to become a mutual feeling, and in many cases peoples games will be DLed/pirated simply because theres no alternative to get them, or the government imposed fees on imports make the game cost like 80 dollars.

Almost everyone I know has bough an original Blizzard game at some point in their life because bnet is awesome and any gamer know playing on it is a marvelous investment, that said I dont know why they dont invest a little more in us to try to bring more people to the light side, there will be no way to play sc2 pirate anyways.

I totally agree and the sad thing is it's forced because of money - if English would be free to choose people would import games from for example Poland what would lower sales somewhere else.
This is why I am sure we won't see any downloading like Kaniol wrote happening.

If only voice actors could at least sound not retarded but natural :/ belief that computer games are mainly for kids is huge factor here imo, it's also what saved W3 translation - the exception that proves the rule.

edit: lol I love 1st comment under this news
Even with all my love to my native language...

It's not suitable to Star

it's way better than when we get stuff dubbed into English. Since so many games and movies are in English, it doesn't happen as often, so we're terrible at it.

A Korean version of SC2 has been confirmed since 2007. Infact, the biggest controversy in Korea regarding SC2 so far has been whether or not the Korean version should have English or Korean names for units. It is the only issue so far that caused flaming on the Korean Battle.net forums.

i do hope they use English unit names in the Korean release for Obs purposes. Right now announcers milk the English words for dramatic effect very well and it makes it easier for the international audience to understand.

What seems to be the prevailing attitude right now on the Korean Bnet forums?

Hayarok actually posted something that isn't in this thread...
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=22739813925&pageNo=1&sid=3000#0

If I understand Xordiah right
First of all, we are of course also localizing in Russian, since this has been announced from the beginning, you can check out the Russian site here: http://eu.starcraft2.com/index.xml?locale=ru_ru
We have also added russian forums today (http://forums.battle.net/index.html?sid=3007) as well as Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/StarCraftRU) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/starcraft_ru) pages that will soon fill up with more content.

Concerning switching between languages, to start off you will have the language of the box that you purchase. We are planning on releasing language packs at some point, but this will not be for release. We will get information on this to you most likely after release of StarCraft 2.

it will be possible to switch languages! This is cool

With news like this. The beta is becoming ever closer. Since I guess they'll give the beta's out in their respective languages/territories.

The fact that they're announcing all this leads me to believe that they're probably reaching the final stretch for single-player. It's generally after you have the foundation laid down that you start making a real effort to localize it for other regions.

i downloaded SC:BW from this blizz store service thingy, and i had not choice but dl the german version.
i'm not sure if it has something to do with my IP, my Key or because I selected Germany as my country of origin.

i had to switch the local.dll or whatever it was to get my good old english keys back. sound's still german though, which sucks.

i'm gonna order SCII online to get everything in english for sure from the beginning.

I'm sad it isn't being translated to Swedish, hardly any games ever are. Except for children's games I've only played Dungeon Keeper and Shadowrun (SNES) fully translated to Swedish. Shadowrun was my favorite game when I was around eight years old since it was the only game that I could understand.

bump!::

for those who have tried the other versions please share your thoughts on unit sounds/unit names etc.

Compared to the english version, are there units that sound better?

I know a few people like Artosis that play on both servers but not sure if he plays with both English version.

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I would like to know if we have some information about switching the language of Starcraft II.

I do not like the French version available here, and I'd like to know if I have to buy the English version from amazon.co.uk or I can simply buy it locally (and get my game faster) and language switch.

Also, does anyone know if Starcraft II will be available for download at the release date? I'd prefer to be able to get it right away in the proper version rather than wait for a long delivery

Thanks for your help.

Unless we've been completely misled, you can pre-download the english eu version already from the sc2 site, and activate it with the key of the box version you buy.

But I guess it's the same here in Belgium. When I go to the store all I see is French/Flemish language versions -.- no English option what so ever.

Guess I'll have to buy from amazon.co.uk like I do with all my games ;\

You obviously are in a Francophone environment, because: firstly, our language is called Dutch and secondly there's only an English language version for us. You just have to go to Flanders and there's the English version for you. Remember, our language is called Dutch! I know some people think we call our language Flemish, but that's just a divide-and-rule trick the elites have invented which the plebs blindly take over.

Anyway, I'm WAY too late of responding here, I just googled which language versions exist out of curiosity and I read your message. Other people reading me can see how's the situation here.

Also, if your country doesn't sell a specific language version, you can download the language pack you want. All the good.

Just needed to bump this. Don't know if that deserves a ban, I don't care.

Anyway, to go further on topic. Why does everyone hate his own version so much here? Are they so bad? No they aren't for the most part. What does suck is the fact that the title is in English (StarCraft, sometimes also the Wings of Liberty). What also sucks are the English names with a French/German/Spanish/other speech, makes it all the cheesier.

Also, indeed sad the Dutch lost their finals, didn't break the party in the Netherlands though.

BTW, if you want bad dubbing, watch the Russian version of StarCraft I:
