HotS plays similar to SC:BW, each race has a surgical strike early game (<8min) BO:
T) Vulture/spider mine run by / hellbat drops
P) Reaver/shuttle play / Oracle/phoneix harass
Z) lurker play / muta or fast 3rd or 6 pool

I'm happy.

Drop play and 7-8 minute harass is just more potent across the board so I dont see why people are qq'ing about a particular one. Hellbat-drops/oracles/dts/whatever are all equally potent atm so I'm not sure anyone can argue that either are imbalance (with overlord speed on hatchery now I wonder if we'll see more zerg drops). I suppose however, that the case could be made that none of these should be this effective. IMO however, in Wings the meta game was waaaaaay to passive before 3rd base so having more early game engagements is pretty nice.

I believe that most of the balance complaints I see are mainly the result of a new meta game in HoTS that people aren't aquainted to.

I don't have the beta, and don't play too often anymore really, but as a spectator I'm really excited. HotS has been really enjoyable to watch on husky's and HD's channels. For all the complaints I've heard about balance I've also seen games where "OP" strategies and tactics have been shut down, and the better player won. I'm excited to watch MLG or GSL with HotS.

12 days with nothing to do. Oh well at least the release is finally nearing. Guess I'll watch all the old episodes of Top Gear lol

Well that's very bad news.

I couldn't care less about balance, and it's sad that this is what people are complaining about. But units like the Oracle, and mines, or abilities like fungal, need a re-design.

12 days should be enough to finish some of my unplayed Steam games. I probably have about 50 games in there that I've never opened-- maybe I'll give the Witcher series or Skyrim a try. Although I'd prefer to keep playing HOTS :/

Epic news since it has said "season ends 3/1/2013" or something like that in the matchmaking page for months now.

too bad they barely managed to get anything done during the beta. They were way too conservative with new units and game mechanics, the game hasn't changed enough to warrant the price of entry.. and considering how bad the singleplayer was in WOL, I have no faith in that part of HOTS either. Good thing TL is more or less transitioning into a Dota2 site instead, makes more sense on every level

If they don't fix the lag, I will stay in Wol for a really long time..

The lag is probably because the servers are in America, hopefully it will get better when we get servers in EU^^

edit: ninja toxifly got it before me

Yes, just for further explanation, all Blizzard beta servers are exclusively hosted by them in California, regardless of game.

They don't use their standard Battle.net server providers, possibly due to the sensitive nature of the betas or due to wanting local access to change things faster and tweak things directly.

2 minor patches tops or one big one. Blizzard doesn't usually do anything in the last month of the beta - this has been seen in D3, WoW expansions, and in SC2 WoL.

I think HotS is way more fun to watch :D There is so much shit the players can do. But maybe thats because there is no real, i.e. solid meta game yet.
I'm just hoping that roaches will be the counter to helions as it is in WoL...

Im sad that they wasted their chance to redesign mech around the tank. Mech play is ok or even good/great but its because Hellbats are insane and widow mines used in conjunction with other army units are strong enough to displace other units from being built

We’re pleased to announce that, in preparation for the launch of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the public beta test will close on March 1. We’re incredibly thankful for the feedback and data our testers have produced throughout the beta, and we hope that all testers continue to practice, prepare, and pursue XP levels in the beta through the end of February.

It is important to note that we will continue to operate a private beta test until Heart of the Swarm goes live on March 12. We will be working with our eSports partners to ensure that they are able to feature the new expansion in professional StarCraft II matches after March 1.

Again, our greatest thanks to everyone who has participated in the beta test so far. We’re looking forward to seeing what you do with the Heart of the Swarm beta over its final three weeks!

This is HUGE news. Blizzard is actually helping leagues by supplying them with a beta server. Does this mean they're going to be doing the same for LAN servers at events?!

I think your reading too much into this statement. They are not saying they are developing a private server for tournaments. They are saying that they are still going to be working on the beta in a closed environment until release. Its just so we dont think that when the public beta ends so does work ok tournament features/usability.

I'm quite surprised they're happy with the balance in hots currently, it seems extremely wonky and very...clumsy

More than a week without HotS? I don't know how I'll manage.

Leaving oracles with 25 damage every .86 seconds is intentional right?
