Just think of them as Spawn Broodling ability from BW, vs tanks anways. It's probably not that big of a deal but we'll see.

In TvT Mech vikings are pretty damn important so you can just go snipe the ravens maybe.

Exactly. It still takes a ton of energy (1 Missile max per Raven), Ravens are still expensive and need upgrades.

I think getting quite a few Ravens are actually compulsory now TvZ. That plus a good Viking count essentially gives you air control with mass PDDs working against Queens, Corruptors and Infestors.

Phoenixes with the range buff have 7 range--which combined with its 4.25 speed, means that in addition to hardcountering mutas and every air to ground or drop ship, they can now infinitely kite corruptors, void rays and battlecruisers (all of whom have 6 range and much slower speed than the Phoenix). With top tier control its a perfect counter to every air units except vikings, tempests and carriers. The fully upgraded Phoenix is now a serious force to be reckoned with as far as air superiority units go.

The new Void Ray mechanic does two things:

1. Opens up harass possibilities with Voids since they deal better damage vs all units (including workers, marines and queens), and can choose to deal better damage vs armored (which includes both stalkers and buildings) upfront. Before, the Void Ray's mechanics inevitably gave the opponent time to react before you started dealing real damage. Now Voids can fly in and lay down better upfront damage, then get out.

2. Incentivizes getting Tempests, as weird as that sounds given how they previously overlapped. The high "charge" damage and long cooldown provide a strong incentive for opponents to bait the Protoss, then retreat as soon as the Voids trigger their ability--its basically like an anti-armored stim, but with no movement speed boost, which means opponents can just run away and wait for it to wear off. Except, Tempests are the ultimate engagement forcer. They really punish an opponent who tries to spend too much time baiting abilities like this.

The new Oracle ability is damn powerful. 2 Oracles will kill 1 probe per .86 seconds--4 Oracles can wipe out 24 workers in 10 seconds, spending only 40 energy apiece. And their range is still low enough that with their low health they won't really be much use at all in a deathball, sticking to Blizzard's goal of a harass unit that would be controlled separately from the main army and pull supply out of the deathball.

Protoss air is gonna be really outstanding after this patch. Easily the strongest of the 3 races' air tech imo, which fits right in with their history of air dominance from BW.

Im just worried about the bio vs mech situation, especially those scenarios where it involves small numbers. The insane healing capability will make it difficult unless you have the bulk of the forces there to clean up the mess the MM is causing..

Bullshit. Nothing compares to Neural Parasiting a Peon and building the Town Hall of a different race and perhaps even rebuilding entire tech trees.

The healing really only helps heal single target burst. I'd say that tanks/mines/hellions will still do pretty good.

It IS a late game buff. You need an UPGRADE in order to have that juicy healing buff. And in order to upgrade it you need a TECH LAB (we all know midgame starports usually have reactors attached to them) in your starport AND wait 110 in-game seconds..


Yeah, Terran can afford to put a tech lab on a starport and research 200/200 cloak for Banshees in the first 5 minutes of a game, but they will wait till endgame for this upgrade... right.... makes perfect sense...

And endgame, upgraded bio drops with this will be just murder, say goodbye to all your expansions, there's nothing you can do.
