Hey guys, is there any way to make money via zerg/protoss research points after the patch? I'm trying to get all the upgrades and hire all the mercenaries. Thanks!

In one play through, it's sadly impossible to obtain the money needed to purchase all the upgrades even with leftover Zerg and Toss research bits. To my knowledge I don't think the patch is changing anything, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Leftover research points can still be sold by going to the research module after maxing each tree, 10,000 credits per I think.

If you're aiming to obtain the achievements, I would suggest doing a series of missions without spending anything, save, and then buy out a tech tree. Once you do that, just reload the game from that same point and buy the next tree, and so on until you get the achievements.

If you just want everything for the sake of having everything and don't need the achievements, I believe the cheat code, 'whysoserious' will grant you 1 million credits which you can spend at your pleasure.

I tried replaying the mission for research bits and it didn't work, so I think the patch disabled it

Ohh... bummer

So there's no way of getting all the research achievements unless you replayed the mission, didn't spend anything, saved, bought all of one thing at once, and then rinse/repeat?

when I got mine, I played 2-3 maps and didnt turn in the research points and saved. TYhen simply replayed and turned in again for several dozens of thousands

It might have been fixed though...
Can we snipe it? Yes we can!

you can stock pile up to 1 million credits. I suggest either doing that, or starting a new campaign and doing it (might as well do it on casual or normal) then ocne you have 1 mil stocked up, save, buy all the research for one type for the achieve, then reload your save. Rinse and repeat and do it with buying all the mercs too.

If you're going for the Rory Swann achievement, you'll need to save up a total of 1,050,000 credits (you can go above 1 million credits: disregard the poster above you) by the time you reach Char. That lets your purchase every single starship upgrade. Then you can reload and buy the remaining upgrades.

you have to replay the singleplayer and go a different route, blizzard did it on purpose. Honestly, I think it's a good thing because I've played through it like 3 or 4 times doing things differently each time. If I could max out on one play through I wouldn't have gotten as much value from the single player.

if all you want are achievements, then save your money until a point that you can spend it and get all the different upgrades and/or mercenaries. You don't have to wait until char to do it, you can do it before then.

If you are good enough at the game to save up money (Not get upgrades except the very important ones) you can buy all the upgrades for achievement A, then reload your save and buy all for achievement B, repeat.

That's what i did - i got all achievements on one playthrough.

You will need to do 1 of 2 things, 1 - multiple play throughs.

2 - (what I did) Save alot of credits and then just spend everything to get one set of upgrades. Reload and do it again.

And if you wanted it to be super easy, play on "Easy" and then only buy the medic/marine upgrades for most of the game and then save when you got around 1.1M ( buy all the upgrades you want? ) and then load the save file and repeat a few times till you get them all...

For a challenge I did everything on Hard without upgrading, then saved after each mission. That means that I can load a saved campaign from any point, put all my money and research into the upgrades that I want, and then hammer whatever mission I want the advantage in. I used this to farm any achievements that I missed along the way.

Mission order is also something to play around with. It's kind of ridiculous how some upgrades and units change certain missions. This especially affects the side-campaigns, which you normally tend to do earlier rather than later. Gunning for Xil early is quite an egregious example, because Siege tanks make some of the side quest missions a curb stomp.
Life is not about making due with what you have; it's about finding out just how much you can achieve. Never settle for anything less than the best. - - - Read my blog!

There was a bug you could do to get enough cash in one playthrough, which I did, no idea if it's been fixed. Something like replaying the first mission right when you arrive at char, it takes about 3mins and give you 3 research points you can sell and then just keep doing that.
I had spent my cash throughout the campaign so I did that to get enough for the buy/load/buy thing.

This is what I had to do in order to get it, I was able to do it in just a couple of hours though.

IMO mercenaries are bad think to buy. Better idea is upgrades for normal units.
