Hey guys, I've spent a good 1.5 hours on this mission and I just cannot do it. Ive racked up over 100 kills on the mining lasers gunning down pure archons, collosus and immortals but it's just impossible -_- I really need some help, I've been doing medic marine, and trying to keep a perimeter of bunkers, but they die too fast. The high templar also just destroy my clumped up units.

What I need is just a good unit mix to use, or some building strategy because as of now, im getting nowhere

Here is all you do: Mass Tanks around the laser, then pump rines and medics. Don;t bother with anything else. Don't worry about the ramps just focus on repairing the laser and massing. If you can shift click through the collossi/immortals/archons fast enough, you will win. It just takes FOREVER.

mass tanks & turrets. make walls with barracks and a bunker with slow upgraded marauders on the right side cliff. also make sure to keep 3-4 scvs at all times hanging around your wall to repair it as the waves come in. use your laser gun early on to shoot down archons and immortals. when you start to run low on resources push down the ramp on your right and move your rax wall also. later on use the laser gun to shoot down templars and collosus because theyre the only things that can get close enough to hurt you.

Make 3 things... tanks + turrets + planetary fortresses. Add in MM if you want, but pretty much when you get enough tanks, it's cake.

Wall with 3 rax on each side with a few scvs inside but near the rax to repair the damage from siege tanks. From that point I just made like 5 tanks for each side and pure MM. Worked wonderfully.

Probably the only problem I was to face was collossi, but they were the only units I attacked with the laser.

I thought this mission was one of the easiest ones, as all you need to do is turtle and occasionally shift queue some attacks with an infinite range ten million damage cannon. In the beginning I just made constant tank production, half on the left and half on the right, while using any excess minerals for marauder/medic. Around the time where you're introduced to the secondary objective (artifacts), I had a big enough group of MM to move out to the left side artifact. Two bunkers on the left ramp, move out with infantry. Vision up the cliff + laser to kill cannons with no casualties. Right after that, I took all my bio and set up three bunkers on the right side low ground choke, with tanks covering them on the cliff. Took the expo right away while using the bio to collect the other two artifacts down there. Up til now I had 2fac and 2rax, all with tech labs. Couldn't afford constant production, but gave me the flexibility to quickly replenish bio if they somehow died. As soon as the second base finished, I added a turret perimeter and two more rax and just built bio. 6-10 tanks per choke is more than enough, after that I used the facs to make gols. Laser target priority is col, immo, archon. Always had enough time to take out those units before they ever got to the base. HTs should be focus fired with tanks, they always clump so you'll kill all of them in a single volley, and you should never be hit by storm. Really it's just a big lesson in "how do I right-click the most expensive units" Also, autorepair is imba.

It's not a very forgiving mission in the sense that if a HT gets vision of your high group he's going to rape a lot of tanks. I always make sure to take out the colossi first with the gun, then immortals, then archons... any remaining Archons I may not have been fast enough with are generally killed quickly enough by the tanks.

Fast expand and mass tanks.

That second base gives you the econ necessary to sustain tank production until you get a critical mass, then just focus fire down immortals, colossus and templar with that laser.

try having those fire turrets at ramp, i know they are expensive but they RAPE immortals.
If you got far enough try getting science vessels - they are mechanical medics (so mech becomes RIDDICOLOUSLY overpowered).
but yeah, I only did the whole mission on hard so far - and I havent failed yet.

Gonna be fun to this this mission on brutal <3

Okay the Effing Yippee-ki-yay achievement is impossible to get.

I've tried mass tank + goliath to push down bases = doesnt work, the aerial strike + archon rapes em.

I've tried mass barrack and fly them in to provide vision to use the laser drill thing = doesnt work, even with 4-5 barracks they die almost instant,

I've tried using MMM to provide vision and mass tanks = doesnt work, once the attacking group comes your offense party get wiped.

The thing is you will sustain 2 much casualty b4 u can pushdown any bases really, so if ANYBODY have this particular achievement please share some experience.

And I tried coming back to this mission after i unlocked some air units = doesnt work the starport construction is disabled. WHOEVER HAS THIS ACHIEVEMENT HALP!

To destroy 50 protoss structures, I camped outside protoss bases with tanks and MM. Then, I made a few barracks and floated them into the toss base to get vision. Finally, use the laser to kill off keys units/buildings.

Your kill priority with the laser should be Immortal > Colossi > Archon if your low on tanks or you think your going to get over ran.

It took me awhile last night but I did it. I got a fast expand to the bottom right, morphing a planetary fortress there to defend it with some tanks and marines. On my top left I defended with tanks and tanks and tanks.

It was slightly dicey getting into midgame, but I just built extra CC's. I eventually walled off with 2 Planetary fortresses at each choke, with tank overwatch and a few marines on the ground. I built 5 racks and walled with those too. You can get so many extra minerals that I just spammed turrets to defend against air pushes, used the laser to kill carriers/void rays.

I used the extra minerals to build marines, and also rally additional SCV's outside the fortresses. Even with SCV's dying the whole time because I had 6 command centers I could just pump them out indefinatly for repair. I spent the rest of the time spamming tanks... I think by the end of the mission I had something like 14 at each choke. I didn't even need the laser when late game rolled around (except for carriers).

To push out to the minerals I just made a handful of Marines + medics and did it. Killed the cannons, laser provided clutch support, and capped them.

I'm not sure how I would have done it if I hadn't unlocked the fortresses yet though. Racks wall with mass tank lines behind it sounds enticing though (making full use of the range 13 on the tanks to prevent them from being hit by the stalkers) and SCV's repairing + medics healing the SCV's sounds smart to me.

Lot of tanks and turrets. Don't need anything else to win.

Just make sure you drill Colo first, they give sight to the ground. At a certain mass of tanks, collosi are the only threat because they allow HT storms. You really can win with just tanks turrets. Infantry is a waste IMO, they make it hard for SCVs to repair and you'd be better off spending on turrets.

I played with it with marine/medic and tanks on the perimiter and just focus collusus and templars down with the lazer.

I completely agree with you, but one thing...

You can get Wraiths before doing the map. They still don't help though, cannons all around every edge of each base won't even let you in for a second stealthed...

Your starport will be disabled if you've achieved the map on a different difficulty setting on that run through of the campaign. If you leave that map completely untouched until you do everything else except for the artifact chain, you'll be able to get a few air units.

Not that it helps.

Only thing that possible could do it is floating a few command centres into the bottom edge of the eastern base, sniping out the cannons and then using stealthed Wraiths, combined with the cannon.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is a combination of 13 tanks + barracks for sight on cliffs + wraiths to take out VR's when they hassle...

Still think you'd lose on air superiority though.

about 20 tanks, plenty of marines, a few medics and some fat merc vikings to kill the voids/carriers made this level doable on brutal.

I can't understand the hard part of this level ? A few tanks + turrets on each side and mass marine + medi, you don't even have to use the laser on units :| Did it on my first try on brutal and was just boring :/

Its as easy as massing tanks and upgrading them, get Vikings and Turrets for air support, and throw in some MedicMarine to secure that expo to your right, just until you get tanks set up.

Just got a simple way of doing the Yippee-ki-yay achievement

Start a new campaign, run through everything on casual and leave out the siege tank one.

Buy the mule/scan upgrade.

Get 2 plantetary fortresses + tanks on each side, spam 11 command centres, scan constantly and queue up buildings for the laser to kill. Easy.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I was able to finally complete it last night with your help. I went back a couple saves where I had got the perdition turret with my tech(DONT GET IT IT SUCKS) and got a planetary fortress instead. With that I was able to secure my expansion with about 8 tanks over that ledge so nothing could get through. I kept tanks up and put bunkers in front of the tanks on the left side because the protoss AI would just attack the bunkers instead of the tanks, meanwhile massing marine/medic. Once I was 200/200 i pushed the top right base with my marine medic and laser drill and took it out. Then I moved onto the top left base, did the same thing got the yipee ki yay achiev and helped me with the rest of the mission, making it much easier to defend against just one base.

How to beat this level easily.

Survive long enough to get enough spectres or permacloaked ghosts to hold position and form a wall. They have no detection. Put the cloaked units at the bottom of the ramp. medic/rine and of course turrets because of the annoying air later.

AI isn't intelligent enough to actually set down a psi storm on the cloaked spectres, so they'll just twitch there trying to pathfind through them, meanwhile your spectres just chill out and kill them.

Survive the air, use laser to zap collosus (since they'll just walk over your invisible wall. protect from air and drops.. and you've got this game in hand.

I kept making tanks from one factory, only adding one starport for a couple of vikings. Keep tank production constant and you'll have enough. I didn't expand or make planetary fortresses, just a couple of bunkers on the ramps. Oh and tank damage upgrades are important.

As for laser killing, I only destroyed what presented the biggest danger to my tanks, meaning collosi first, then templar, then immortal. It's a bit up to judgement though, for example if the wave is small I don't bother lasering anything, or if there's a templar with a weak wave I just focus it down quickly with my tanks. Archons are generally not dangerous at all since even if they get through they'll just hit your bunker a couple times and that's it. I only lasered them early on when my tank count on each side was still below ~8.

I actually lost the most to those annoying void rays and a couple of carriers, hence the vikings.

Goldy496 actually gave me that idea last night (then used that screencap I took haha), but it works really well. Just open by taking one initial SCV and building a black-ops and a second barracks to add a tech lab later for spectre or ghost. Use the original barracks to build a reactor and make rines/medics to defend in the meantime. No extra tanks or anything needed.

Then just use the laser to blast colossi and the carriers that come for a pretty effortless win.

Imo you should kill templar > immortal > colossus with the laser. Templar just fuck your shit up too badly to let them live; immortals survive for too long against tanks. Colossi are actually mostly harmless in this level as long as you have some SCVs amongst your tanks (by the time they appeared I kept at least 3 SCVs on each side to repair).

Of course, when colossi appear they kind of block you from targeting much else because they're so huge (especially since templar are small), so....

Get expo and armory asaply, try to protect your first few tanks then just pure mass tanks with upgrades and a bunch of turrets and it's a complete cakewalk. Also snipe templars/colossi/immortals in that order.

Yeah I found this one relatively hard, but eventually I did get all the achievements on Brutal.

The trick is to group all your tanks up so that you don't "waste" tanks not being able to fire.
I pumped tanks from 2 factories and built a massive tank army behind and to the right of the Laser. Create a barracks wall on the left side and a turret line against the cliffs with about 10 SCVs just for repair.
You need 100 supply of tanks with full upgrades. Once you reach this number you'll realise why. It really doesn't matter what the enemy sends they just get melted.

The tanks on the right cliff cover the expansion so you can take that relatively early. Then you use an MnM army to move around the map and take out buildings and the air units when you get them. Liberal use of the Laser is advised.

Yes but there were a few posting that hadn't played Brutal.

I'll have to disagree with the mass siege tank approach or if you do do that then you better laser the Immortals first.Get lots of siege tanks certainly but I think you need a somewhat rounded army. I think I'm trying this one too early into the campaign, I've only done 8 scenarios on Brutal and I can't hold off the last couple of waves. A few Spectres/Ghosts and I'd be golden.

I actually stayed one base for the majority of the mission, and ended up giving up my expo anyway. I did this classic SC1 style, turtle up with tanks+mines+turrets. If you don't destroy anything else, you'll have a huge surplus of mins so vults/turrets will be easily replaceable. Just be sure to shift click the colossi+immortals+ht first and it's only a matter of time until you beat it.

do ppl get the expo on this map ? cant see why its done before you run out of minerals dont waste on that i say.
just turtle in and turtle heavy, i didnt even have vikings, just continous tank production, upgraded bunkers with marines, tower around the edges and like 135 scvs spread to repair.
the only thing i killed with the drill was the collosi, cuz they walk up and give sight on the highground and all the units will whack on those tanks.
dont overcomplicate it, dont think all fancy, nothing to it. you just need tanks to oneshot everything, i didnt have ONE moving unit exept the scvs.

Thought this was pretty easy. Mass tanks in the corners with turret support. Pumped only with one factory. Bunkers with marauders and concussive shells (very important/helpful) and SCVs repairing them. Didn't really use the lazer until near the end when the colossus started coming. Use lazer to kill shit in the nearer group first and then the group near the center. Only used lazer to snipe immortals, high templars, and colossus; they are the real threats, archons jsut get blasted by tanks. Tried to expo but it just died.

Gotta try that specter trick when doing achievements :p

The easiest way to get that achievement is to force your way up into the top left base with your army, not the base on the right side because its ramp is wayyyyy too narrow. Once you get a bunker and some tanks up there, you can get vision of the buildings and smash them down. I put 2 bunkers in the narrow corridor in front of my expansion with 2 marauders and 2 marines in each, and then a ton of tanks, maybe 10 tanks, behind it. I put a few turrets and a bunker at the top of the top left protoss base's ramp with like 10 more tanks, and pushed in there. I also had another bunker and some tanks at my left side ramp. I did this mission as soon as humanly possible to get tanks for the harder missions, so no super awesome tech.

Use the laser drill only on immortals, colossus, void rays, and maybe an archon or two if theres a lot of them and you don't think the tanks will kill them before they get to you.

Are you sure this works the whole way through? They do eventually bring an Observer. I had perma-cloaked ghosts on this mission and the Protoss waves attacking from the north toward the end of the mission just walked up and killed them as if they weren't cloaked. Even though I didn't SEE the observer, I'm pretty sure this is how they detected me.

Make tanks and turrets. A bunker in the front to...er...tank the damage. Keep on top of using the laser to kill dangerous shit like Colossi and Immortals. 10 Tanks on each side should do it.

Make a bunker wall with tanks behind them. Temps can't storm behind the line like when you put it near the corner. It was pretty easy.

I thought this was extremely easy on Brutal. I lost the first time but as soon as I realized you could use shift click for the laser to take out literally all the enemy immortals and colossus and archons without having to manually do each one, I wasn't even remotely struggling to beat it. 80% of the units die before they get to you. You can expand to the other minerals pretty early on doing that.

If you didn't use shift click for hte laser, I could see it being hard.

I had this problem aswell untill I remembed a survival custom map during hte beta where you block the choke with 2 commandcenters and some SCVs behind, this coupled with tanks and any ground attack just drop dead if you use the cannon on the immortals.
I even managed to take the relics and the natural with this strategy on my first time trying it where so many other things failed over and over.

Just get enough Tanks. I had 3 bunkers covering each entrance with Marauders in them. 1 SCV by each bunker for auto repair. Never lost a single bunker until the very very end. Only used laser to gun down Immortals, tanks killed everything else usually before they reached the bunkers.

I had zero trouble with this. Even managed to get all the achievements with viking spotters.

just mass tank/turret with a few bunkers at the right choke and left ramp. focus the laser on archons, colossi, and immortals.

Also, keep 4-5 SCV's on each side to repair, and ~4 medics one each side to heal the SCV's.

Just make sure you drill Colo first, they give sight to the ground. At a certain mass of tanks, collosi are the only threat because they allow HT storms. You really can win with just tanks turrets. Infantry is a waste IMO, they make it hard for SCVs to repair and you'd be better off spending on turrets.

thanks man. I just beat the mission after following your strategy. I also followed liquipedia's advice and used ebays as meat shields. When I tried using upgraded bunkers, I did not have enough resources to mass tanks/turrets.

Are you sure this works the whole way through? They do eventually bring an Observer. I had perma-cloaked ghosts on this mission and the Protoss waves attacking from the north toward the end of the mission just walked up and killed them as if they weren't cloaked. Even though I didn't SEE the observer, I'm pretty sure this is how they detected me.

are you sure? i dont think there's any detection in this mission (save for cannons), atleast that's whats on liquipedia. i followed the ghost method mentioned there. ezpz.

HT may be smart enough to storm ghosts even if they can't see them (as they can "see" where they must be).

For Defense you either cheese it with Ghosts, or go Tank/Turret. Both are completely plausible. For Tank/Turret I'd recommend putting down a single bunker + getting merc infantry to fill it. Helps pick up the surviving low HP units that make it past the initial tank volleys. A Planetary is also great for this purpose (I didn't have the tech, got Perdition Turrets instead, which are decent here as well).

For the achievement, float a barracks to the far left of the map, past the ancient temple, then move it up slowly. You should have to snipe a carrier / few other air units, but after they die you can get vision of buildings. Pick them off with the mining laser. The computer will rebuild them, so you can simply kill the same 5-8 buildings over and over until you hit 50. Perhaps not the most glamorous way to complete it, but it makes it extremely easy.

as all of here had said, you always have to use the unit which is referred as the technology for that mission, because it usually is the most effective unit for that mission ( thou it doesnt always is the case cause i pass some missions without using the technology available) , so just do a lot of tanks almost like 3 or 4 or more factories producing tanks, thou you dont need that many i only used 3 factories. and also you have to have a plan B cause tanks dont deal aerial damage so do marines and medics (marine in bunkers) to complement tanks in that weakness because they are cheaper than other techs and dont require many vaspine gas as thors, vikings, etc. so thats it tanks + you choose what. and remember to use attack + shift to kill all archons, collossi and inmortals, so that can become much easier for your army.
you shouldnt worry if everybody ignore you, you should be worry when they dont anymore.

I just massed tanks around the laser drill, and then trained mass marines for the excess minerals to deal with the warp prisms and void rays. At first I thought I had to use the laser drill to take out immortals and stuff but eventually found out that it wasn't even needed because the tanks would destroy anything that came up the ramp instantly. Most of the time the enemy didn't even get the chance to get in range to be able to deal damage to my tanks before they got killed. I think I only lost 3-5 tanks in total.

I also got 1-2 vikings to gain vision of the bonus artifacts and the photon cannons guarding it, then took it out with the laser drill and landed my viking to pick up the bonus objectives.

I think if the permaclocked things move, they'll be smart enough to use storm.

otherwise, hold position is just funny.

And I'm positive the only detection is cannons.

You guys make the achievement seem harder than it is. Make only mm. And maybe 3 tanks on each side for support. Use the mm to roll all their bases once you're at 120 supply. Very very easy.

I started my NUR yesterday and finished this mission with 1 fac tanks, 2 rax mm. Just save every now and then since sometimes a stronger wave comes... I didn't bother blasting any units. Just secure your expo quickly and build 4 turrets on each side. I dunno, I found no challenge playing it on brutal.

Don't make to big a deal of the achiement, you just have to had hit that critical mass to push into thier bases, they will have a few colous a few voidray and temp when you push in.

Personally I used a marine, maurder, medic bio ball supported by 7-8ish tanks to push in, would poke up and back and use the lazer as needed. If you attack a base too soon your amry will be melted and you'll have to restart/reload.

As people have said, push down to that expo as soon as you can, I waited until I had a few tanks for each side. then you can mass produce shit. If you're shift clicking the lazer enough you should really only be fighting zel/stalkers at your base, you can pick off most everything else. (aside from those air rushes)

personally I did the dig as early as possible, you don't need extra units or fancy anything. Carful and active lazer usage should mean that the air rushes are the only thing that gets into your base.

the dig is so easy really... Camping with terran is super easy, +you can have all those upgrades. I did not have many of them and won really easily with 2 bunkers and 4-5 tanks at each side and a bunch of turrets and an MM force which was swinging from one side to the other. I dont see how to lose that one if you use the laser, i also easily got the artifcats too.

I've tried mass barrack and fly them in to provide vision to use the laser drill thing = doesnt work, even with 4-5 barracks they die almost instant
Worked for me. I killed well over 100 buildings.

You hug the left side of the map, then move along the top. Eventually I managed to take out the Nexus, even. The computer will continue to rebuild the buildings. This is a GOOD thing, because you were able to take them out the first time, getting double-triple credit is just bonus.

in the beginning i pumped a small squad of marines/medics for the first wave of air units, and constant tanks from 2 factories. then i expanded, made turrets around the drill and at the chokes, and more tanks. i made 2-3 planetary fortresses at every choke. in the beginning you should target fire high templar with your tanks on the cliff before they get vision. when you reach a critical mass of tanks, it doesn't matter, they won't get anywhere close. you should still use the laser to take out immortals at the end though.

I actually beat this one with just pure MMM. I had full ups and just had like 5 rax constantly pumping. I did have the medic upgrade so i could pumped reactor'd medics out. If you can snipe all the HT and Colossi with the laser, it's actually quite easy. The mass marine/stim makes the aerial attacks sort of a joke, marauders slow everything down, and immortals are laughable.

Don't think this has been said, but the Protoss are not capable of rebuilding in the eastern base as they have no probes or nexus there. I built 3 extra orbitals in the unused area behind the main when I had minerals to spare. Shift-queue all the Stargate/Robo/Gateways in that base and give constant vision with scans. It makes the pressure on that side significantly weaker.

This is for Brutal, not the achievement.

I played Brutal without any campaign upgrades from the Raynor's commanding ship and I think this mission is really easy because you can do the fast expansion to completely distract bottom way attacker pathing away from you tanks on the cliff (--> they always attack your expansion CC instead of your "invisible tanks on the cliff").

This distraction technique means that in the early stages of the map (less than 10 tanks) you can have the top side defended by 4-6 tanks (and initial free MM) while bottom only requires 2-3 tanks. Always use the laser to destroy every Immortal // Archon // Colossus but nothing else.

And after some time (can't seriously remember) be sure that you have about 4 or more missile turrets hugging your tanks on each side and then add more next to the laser drill and into other dropship hold position locations later on. I even had to run off my tanks on the first air attack just to make sure they don't get picked because my turrets were kinda mispositioned and didn't soak the damage away from the tanks fast enough (but it got fixed later on and I had a ton of tanks to spare).

TL;DR:
1. Make superfast economy with expansion
2. Build only tanks as your units
3. Use Laser to destroy hard-to-kill targets
4. Take care of air attacks with Missile Turrets (and laser if needed)
5. Only northside requires "normal" defending (but make sure you can kill the southern entrance units in time)
6. Do not build anything outside of the cliffarea except CC & two gas unless you feel lucky ;p

1 base, mass tanks a few turrets, u can even go afk after u reach a critical amount of tanks. Its really that easy.

Its much easier to beat on two bases tbh. Once you get enough tanks just expand and take the natural. Make sure to micro the laser to get the archons/immortals and you'll be fine. Also make sure to get some turrets to keep yourself safe from the air waves that will come.

Lots of tanks, do NOT keep them right on the edge otherwise they will get owned by storms. Also have a wall of bunkered marines around your tanks for aerial defense. Keep lots of bunkered marines right by the drill too to protect it from air.

I thought this was one of the easier brutal missions, just gotta mass tanks, mass bunkers, like wall off with them, and keep using the laser to kill stuff, ignore the stalkers and zealots though.

Put marauders and marines in the bunkers. The marauders are real useful slowing down the protoss.

Bonus tip, if you want to get the relics as well, I suggest building an extra rax, or use the one you have if you don't need it. Fly it to the relic location, but it has to be between waves, as you get close use the laser to take out any enemies that hold a threat on the rax, liek the scouts, cannons, and stalkers maybe? When the area is clear of enemies land the rax near the relic and make a marine, use the laser to blow up the temple, then pick up the relic with the marine. Lift off the rax and get the other relics.

Reminder, you have to do this between waves, when the toss spawn kill all their immortals and collosi first.

Oh and save load a lot if you need to.

Edit: I forgot, missile turrets, you're going to need them around the laser.
