I just spent over 45min on this mission, and the SS is legit. So FML!

Spoiler for those who haven't done this yet.

I just found it easy to keep pressure on the Z while mining, keeping a bunker nearby sometimes, salvaging it before the lava rises. Was playing on Brutal.

Edit: Make sure you use reapers to find minerals all over the place, and killing Z structures also gives money

This was on brutal also. I thought the uberlisk would be... welll more uber so I overcompensated quite a bit and I decided to kill him last. I wholeheartedly expected the uberlisk to drop like a large stash of cash once he dies. Sigh, just 1 less of any unit and it would've been gg >_<

(Brutal) I just used 5 scvs per command centre, which allowed me to easily save 3 CCs from lava.
Overall this mission was pretty fun. Scared to go back through it to kill Lisk with lava though. Mission took so long ><

pretty easy level. make small army of marauder, medic, marine hero mercs and a firebat or two. doesnt need to be big because the zerg will never attack you with anything other than a couple mutas and lings. i didn't even come close to mining out the map when i did it.

granted i took a while to do it. mercs marines are pretty strong for this

Could have been more difficult on Brutal, was thoroughly enjoyable though. Killing the Brutalisk with lava should be a neat challenge.

I was also able to get the brutalisk achievement through repaer micro quite easily as well. Really enjoyed the mission.

This.

Also, I made a couple extra CCs to just float around with 5 SCVs loaded inside each. Everytime the lava came, I loaded the SCVs inside and lifted off. Worked very well, although you have to be proactive with your Reapers in picking off the Zerg bases, because they like to ignore your main and attack your roaming Command Centers.

I only ended up harvesting like 4 different high-yield locations, and I think there was another 4 remaining. Plus killing the Zerg bases, there's a ton of resource stashes there.

best mission so far for me, you can make a couple of thousand min just killing the zerg bases.

Just did this mission on Brutal. Can anyone confirm that is is impossible (or close to it) to get Brutalus killed by lava in Brutal? Was trying to get him killed by lava for like 1 hour, and like a dozen of "volunteer" reaper/marine/marauder causalities and never succeeded. He would always reset the momment he hit the bottom of the ramp. Tried to time him being there exactly as lava hit but didn't seem to work either. Then I proceeded to just go and kill him 3 minutes into normal mode, while having to problem kiting him anywhere.

Other than that it was one of the easiest missions in brutal so far. Had Zerg eliminated for ages, and had the workers just sitting while trying to do the above achievement before giving up and just mining the extra money. Kidna dunno you can run out of minerals. Was spenting way more than I wanted to keep money low while trying to kite brutalus, and still when it ended there was like 1/3 of the map with untouched minerals.

As for OP adding to the salvage idea since your pop is 157/158 check if you have some 2 food unit queued that you can cancel and get the money back.

throw a bunker down behind him just above the ramp, that way he can't get back up. Might work.

id recommend just saying fuck you to some of the hard achievements and just play the game relaxed for the first time. you know youre gonna replay it at a later date anyway, might as well save the hardest achievements for then.

Strangely, there's a big jump in difficulty between Normal and Hard. Hard can present a decent challenge (especially on that Train Robbery map), but Normal is just super easy so far.

I still had a ton of the map unexplored when I got 8k/8k, I just used the reapers I find along with a medic and went around and killed all the zerg bases/collecting minerals and brutalisk while I mined and defended with my MM army

reapers are trully awesome in this mission. it was just so much fun abusing the terrain and finding all the hidden stashes of resources.

The brutalisk was probably the easiest thing about that level. Was it supposed to be a boss or something? I just kept shooting and backing up, probably the easiest micro trick known to man and it didnt get a single hit off on my marines. It was a joke. As for the expo's, I went in this order:

Main, the one north, the one directly east, the one directly south, the next one directly south, the north-western most one, and I win.

What you want to do is

+ Show Spoiler +
lure the Brutalisk to the low ground on the RIGHT, not straight up. If you lure him to the low ground on the right, you can make him stay there for 10+ seconds.

I wasn't paying attention and lost all my SCV's but I managed to scrape together the resources by killing all the zerg with good micro. I had about 2 spare mineral drops when I finished.

Anyone have some overall strategy tips for this one? It's the first mission that's been giving me trouble on brutal. Do you split your forces between mining defense and main base defense? How much food are you typically at to get a balance between spending and saving?

I did this on brutal earlier, and what i did was just get the second command center, float that around with my main army and keep a small army in base right at the entrance to the second gold patch (to teh right) an keep the main HQ to make SCVs with if you lose some

I just keep the main army around the SCVs working, it has to be fairly big, so 5-6 medics and couple firebats + mostly marines and the reapers you pick up.

the brutalisk was just natural, i expanded there and took my army to kill it, npnp

I also hotkeyed all workers working the patches to 3 and army to 1, so it was easy getting them all when the lava came up

you can easily do this mission with just reapers at least on hard. Reapers don' t cost
many minerals and they can get to all the high places. Only thing you have to watch out for is mutas.

Concussion grenades also worked on maruaders, I think. Done this on Hard, don't know if brutal changes anything.

4 marines, 4 maruaders, 2 firebats, 3 medics + all the reapers they give you will take out anything the zerg can throw at you.

allright so i figured this
+ Show Spoiler [Brutalisk issue] +

the units die instantly in the lava while brutalisk doesnt. I simply put a bunker two squares down the right side ramp

+ Show Spoiler [Finishing the mission] +

pretty much didn't build anything, mined from one location(using both ccs is counter productive- you'll spend more on split defensive forces then gain mined time). Just fly around the map with reapers and collect minerals/rape hatcheries. I got like 3-4k minerals like that

I built 3 cc's and 15 scvs everytime i would land at a new stash i would build 2-3 turrets and 1-2 bunkers
I had a force of like 20 reapers (+ the extra reapers that joined my cause) 10medics so my reapers could get healed occasionally. when the lava started coming i told all my scv's to hide in the command centers lifted them off salvaged the bunkers. And would only lose 2-3 turrets everytime the lava came. Even had some war pigs camp by my medics to keep them alive.

The bunkers I have course manned with 2 reapers as in this mission they dont attack you with many roaches. =)

Brutal difficulty setting FTW

I don't think it was supposed to be hard unless you made the mistake I did....
Use reapers hit back up hit back up.... *why are my reapers exploding the brutalisk isn't attacking them... Sigh lava... (on another note it got me to kill the brutalisk by lava

uhh, this map is unbearably easy on brutal, and I'm not saying that to be mean or arrogant. I just massed medic/marine and cleared the map of zerg in a clockwise direction. I ended dodging mineral chunks everywhere so i could lure the brutalisk onto lowground, which was also very easy, I just spread marines all over the low ground and then kited him into it. While he ran around killing the marines I microed them a bit, and he died easily. saced probably 10 marines for it.
This was one of those 'all 3 achievs on the first try on brutal' maps...

I used small group of reapers and marines to clear everything, kited the brutalisk with a handful of reapers while defending with bunch of marines that had medic or two with them, wasn't even half way mining the map out, but I finished it too fast and ended up missing one group of Tosh's reapers...

Didnt bother to build any reapers, just 6-8 marines with 2-3 medics on each of the mineral line. Combined the 2 groups to take out the brutalisk.

I completed this mission by defending and macroing up an army until I had a decent sized Marine/Medic force. I had two bunkers at each of my main's choke points (6 Marines and 1 Reaper in each pair) and I long distant mined because I didn't want to defend the CC's. After I had a decent Marine/Medic Force, I just went explore the map and killed off all of Zerg. Then I just mined until I had my 8000 minerals. It is a very long but safe way to do it.

I just did red lobster on brutal, took me a while to figure it out.

Step 1. Clear all Zerg
Step 2. Park a command center on the low ground to the right.
Step 3. Wait for warning bells, kite the brut to the ramp and let him kill your reaper.
Step 4. He will see the CC and attack it.
Step 5. when lava is about to rise lift off and the brut will use its AA ability and keep standing in the lava.
