Yeah they turn achievements off as soon as you use a cheat.

Screw this, the missions are really boring anyway. Cheating away!

Try starting with the things that the units say.

anyone tried "cheat" yet? I haven't got it installed yet but I saw it been used in an early alpha, they might've kept it.

At least one is going to be something like "rainbowcolours" to reference the Grimdark Diablo 3 Graphics complaints.

So opening an exe file in notepad and then looking through it would show cheats? Is that how the OP did it or are there multiple ways?

I found a secret, but I have no idea what it does.

+ Show Spoiler +
I don't remember the name of the mission but it was early on where you had to defend against constant waves of Zerg units. Big purple things fell from the sky dropping zerglings and creep tumors, and it also had achievements like don't lose any buildings and raze three hatcheries. There are also three small groups of rescuable marines and medics.

On this mission if you build up a strong enough force to attack the Zerg bases, you can fight your way towards the two o'clock position on the map. There is some unit there, which I couldn't get a good look at that runs into what I think was a port-a-potty. If you click the port-a-potty, a message saying SECRET FOUND! appears. If you continue to click it, it counts down from three to one... but I have no idea what it does... any ideas?

found the same thing, it was called like "space tauran shack" or something... i expected it to explode on countdown and there be a tauren-marine, but nothing like that at all happened, it just flew off and never came back... maybe activating that makes the tauran spawn on another level and you gota find him there.

I assume everyone has tried the SC1 cheats as well as references to Blizzard's other games (WoW, D3/2, etc). I figure there has to be a cheat referencing the big ol' cash cow that is World of Warcraft. Anyone tried references to pro gamers?

How fitting would a 'savior' cheat be?

No, that won't work. Using a Hex Editor is the basic way to read through an executable (something like Hex Workshop). To view memory you can use a tool like SoftICE (not for the casual computer user, it's designed for systems drivers programmers, so be careful).

Haven't gotten the game yet, but I think the first ones I'd try that weren't in SC1 would be things like:

terrible terrible damage
thick terran armour
tough protoss shields
I have the tower (lol, he-man + xel'naga tower references mashed together.. Would be a black sheep wall if it does work)
hell it's about time (guessing it would be like operation cwal?)

I was playing with the map editor and I found a list of cheats... only problem was I only found what they do not what they are. maybe some one else can work with this and find something else.

+ Show Spoiler +
This is what i found in that list:
god mode
cooldown
cost check
defeat
fast build
fast heal
fog of war
food usage
resources
ignore tech requirements
Time Of Day
Upgrades (1)
upgrades (2)
victory

I don't remember which section of the map editor i found it in. It was multiple rows and columns and each thing above seemed to have an enable and disable function looked somthing like this:

cheat/ignorefoodusageEnable ..|.. core.sc2.mod
cheat/ignorefoodusageDisable .|.. core.sc2.mod

(ignorefoodusage is just for an example. I dont remeber exactly what followed the slash after cheat)

I'm not exactly sure how to open the mod file type in any thing but the editor so I could really get much farther then that

does using a cheat disable achievements for that specific level or for the rest of the campaign?

I'd guess just that level since cheats shouldn't carry over between levels.

I miss WC2 where it would actually say "Cheater" as your rank that level if you used them :D.

Using cheats disables all achievements in the campaign. I used them on like the 6th mission or something, and I haven't had an achievement since.

I did a search through the SC2 EXE file with a hex editor and didn't find the word "terrible" in it. I'd look in the MPQs next.

Anyone try "Stay frosty"? I bet some of the more popular quotes from the original will probably make their way into cheats.

I'd try it myself, but...

It is a tauren marine which was a blizzard April fools special unit. It runs and hides in it's bog when you approach nice little easter egg

It turns achivements off? Nooooo, there goes my only reasonable hope of getting the Kerrigan portrait.

At least they're still in. Kudos to the people who found them, and the terrible terrible damage reference is great; I'm loving all the ones they threw in.

Ya using a cheat once will disable achievments for the rest of the campaign unless you load a save from before you used the cheat. Didn't realize that when I tested terribleterribledamage so I am just gonna wait for my next play thru.

Im at work but but I really hope these are some of the cheats

I like how this thread is called "known cheats for singleplayer" and there's only a single known cheat here. Can we keep this thread to known cheats? By the time a list of them comes out, or people discover new ones, people will have to scroll through a list of this stupid shit that you guys have posted and think is funny. Half of these are just terrible, terrible puns + Show Spoiler +
(Sorry I couldn't resist)
that any three year old could have thought of.

If you guys want you should make a "I hope this is a starcraft 2 cheat!" thread, and go post your pun cheats there. Otherwise it seems like you've just destroyed this thread, or will if this continues.

If you'd like to see the Night Elf Marine do the following:

+ Show Spoiler +

In "Piercing the Shroud," when you call for reinforcements (8 marines, 3 marines/medics, 3 marauders), go out the hangar door and head north as far as you can and look just beyond your grenade throwing reach at the top of your screen., there is a giggling little Elf Marine

So a question or two i have regarding cheats. If i cheat on 1 campaign level does that remove achievements for all of them? The thing is I have gotten most achievements pre-char, but i have not gotten the hidden level, and dont have any savepoints Pre-media blitz. so as far as i know, i have to re-do the campaign to get it , and i cant be bothered playing through it all again right now to get the last mission, but if i just terribleterribledamage through all the missions, will that mean i wont get any achievements on the later missions (e.g the hidden mission?)

search for a know cheat in memory(or possibly even in the exe file) and check if there are any cheat like sounding strings near it

The hex editor wouldn't work, as I'm sure it would load the cheats from an MPQ.

It seems like the cheats are checked against a stored hash and not actually stored as readable strings in the exe or anywhere else. They cannot be reverse engineered from the client, you have to just know them. We'll have to figure them out for ourselves.

That's grunty, not a Night Elf marine.

i imagine it would. use the cheat for extra credit, get all upgrades, make the next few missions easy
