My plan right now is to go buy the game at midnight, go home and install and then not sleep until I have finished the single player campaign. If it takes too long maybe ill take a short break to sleep a few hours some time tomorrow. Is anyone else planning a single player marathon as soon as you get your hands on the game? Those of us planning to stay up all night could post status reports in this thread to push each other even further. Keep the spoilers in spoiler tags with a hint at how far into the game you are before the spoiler.

Yeah. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't if you aren't either working or completely interesting in the campaign. My campaign run will start in 5 hours approximately

I'm not

I totally understand where the desire to do this is coming from, it's just not for me. Waited 10 years for this to come out, and really don't plan on pushing myself through the campaign in a sleep deprived state

I'll probably log a couple hours of the campaign and then swap over to try some online madness.

Really? I would tend to assume most people aren't even going to touch the campaign for at least the first few hours they play, and many will never even complete the campaign at all.

Ya, exactly. I have been planning this for a couple years now. I will be very disappointed in myself if I sleep before finishing the campaign.

I guess there is a difference between the people who grew up with Starcraft, finishing the campaign when they were little, having fond memories of it and the people who got into Starcraft through e-sports the last few years.

30 missions is a lot good luck man the first few missions are the easyiest because its learning so im guessing they will take anwhere to 10-20 minutes each then evolve towards 30-90 minutes each so you in for atleast a good 20+ hours

Blizz said 20 hours+ for one playthrough. What you should do is put it up on a stream so we can all see you play for a day straight, then again, nobody would watch since we'd all be playing ourselves...

I don't remember which difficulties there were to choose between but I will probably try the hardest one right away unless there is a hard and impossible setting then I'll pick the hard one. That way it will probably not be over too quickly.

Aww, I thought you were going to organize a real speedrun for recording

But yes, I will focus quite a bit on the campaign before I hit the multiplayer part of the game. Blizzard always create excellent single player experiences.

I might do that later If we can save replays from the missions we could do it that way.

Why would you want to get it over fast? I would think you'd want to absorb and enjoy the campaign.

Hopefully I will be able to do both. It's not like I'm going to skip any of the cut scenes or rush through the dialogs. More like spend a lot of time playing the game right now.

I would prefer to go through the campaign methodically over a week or more and enjoy it. To me rushing to get through seems like you're taking a "work" attitude towards it, like a chore you have to do. I would rather take my time and savor it.

Eh, I really like speedrunning but I plan to take my sweet time with this. I'll probably walk around a lot in the ship between the missions, gather as much of the story as possible and round of with some online games between every 2-3 missions or so.

It is possible to finish it much faster than that, judging from one of the campaign achievements. See the "Hurry Up: It's Raid Night" achievement.

The campaign is awesome. Finished 3 missions till now (yay being in europe), and wow, they have put a lot of work into it.

No way I'm doing a speedrun though, I am in no hurry.

I think I'm going to try to play the hardest mode with a speedrun concept. I expect to fail many times, but I bet Blizzard has something locked by playing it hard mode.
Venture Capital is better off spent on lottery tickets rather than investing in E-Sports; you'll get a far better return. The difference is simple: Koreans are tryharding at the game, foreigners are tryharding in real-life.

This. I'm going through the campaign first, for sure, but I'm going to take it nice and slow.

I've waited 12 years for this, I'm not going to ram through it haphazardly and be done.

finished mission 6 on hard... really well done so far! I enjoy it a lot.. the only thing that bothers me is, that you cant see the achievement for a mission before you play it.
is that correct or am i missing that anywhere? I hardly complete a mission with all achievements cause I just dont know what the achievements are until i finish it.
Sure, I could replay the mission to finish the missing ones, but seeing the achievements before you start the mission would be a much better option.
If you think it's too hard there are solutions other than asking for a nerf, getting better is the first that comes to mind.

Well twelve years down the line all we remember and love is the esport and the competitive play, but don't forget Blizzard RTS's have easily the strongest narratives and campaign level design in the history of RTS.

I intend to play the campaign until I finish it, but in no means do I plan on doing a "speed run" to get the best times on a particular level. I'm going to enjoy myself, explore, listen to the dialogue, and most of all, HAVE FUN playing it to the fullest ^^. Brutal for the win xD.

You actually can, press F9 when you are at your ship

About your speedrun idea - don't do it. If you play the game at a normal pace, I guess there is around 60 hours of very fun gameplay. When you get sick of the campaign, go laddering then come back. We waited for so long (and we got such a great product), that it would be a real shame to speedrun it on your first try.

I will finish the game on hard, then grab all the campaign achievements on hard, then speedrun on normal, then on hard, all while laddering when I feel like it. Will be a blast

Are the singleplayer campaigns similar to the design in the first games? Or is the AI evolved to the point where you're actually fighting a "balanced" opponent.

IIRC, the original missions were only really slowed down by the fact that the computer started with static defenses covering 75% of the map, it'd be interesting to see a more "realistic" opponent.

The opponent is not really human like but it is still good. Most of the challenge is in completing special objectives or achievements like destroying your opponent on maps where the main objective is to stay alive for 20 minutes where you are heavily outnumbered. Almost all of the missions have special objectives or rules. There are very few missions that are just about building a base and they destroying the opponents base.

missions now. I love the campaign. I have never seen an RTS with so many cut scenes and so much dialog/story. There are sidetracks in the story that aren't even relevant that are given more dialog and cut scenes than most other RTS have for a whole game.

I was mildly entertained by the campaign so far (only 4 or 5 missions in so ton of stuff to go). I was going to do a non stop run starting early this morning but didn't think the early campaign could keep me fully awake.

Finished it on hard now. Still says that I have completed 25/26 missions though. Not sure why. I mean I know there are some missions I haven't played since you could only choose one of two in a couple of cases but if you counted all of them it should be 25/29 or something like that. If it doesn't count the double missions then there must be some hidden mission I haven't found I guess. I did all the protoss missions.

I guess next up is trying to get the Kerrigan portrait: Complete all 29 missions on Brutal difficulty.
