Yeah that is an utter disgusting performance, Maresca has 3 games to save his job, also our sporting directors really need sacking too, so much miss management at the club, how we can have regressed so much and then have a transfer window like we just had is utter crazy.

Bit harsh on Maresca no? Can’t disagree about those upstairs mind

But then I don’t watch them every week!

I feel it’s sometimes better for a new coach to start slowly and improve later, versus starting quite well and regressing, at least in terms of fan reception. I’m not really sure why that is but hey.

I had heard someone on one of my many podcasts the other day offer the theory that Maresca started well when he was bedding in and hadnt quite drilled his methods into his squad, and now that he actually has they’re regressing for that reason. They said that Chelsea went from pass and move earlier the season, to pass and pass recently and it’s just not working.

That sound about right or do you have a different view?

I still don't get why Chelsea sacked Poch when he was turning the team around last season which was expected to have a slow start with so many new and young players who had to gel together. Now Maresca came in, looked to have a strong start, and now is fading very quickly. Feels like he's already out of ideas, and we know how sack happy Chelsea are.

Not quite as bad management as United, but you have to ask how they always end up like this.

Wasn't a sacking per se, was Poch leaving as Poch wanted a few players we were missing but they were at the wrong age range, so i think Poch said we might as well part ways then as i can't take this further if i don't get more control.

On the style of play, he has done the same thing he did at Leicester, got to the top then fell off fast, at start of that championship season Leicester were on course for a record points total but fell off a cliff at the same time in december!

We have defo changed the style because we went from scoring for fun and conceding too much, to now conceding and not scoring, because he is trying to keep the ball more and press high and keep the lines high, but we are looking even more exposed.

I don't want him sacked really, but he can't keep pushing these utter lame excuses and saying things like "target was not top 4 this season, its next season and then title challenge in 5 years" this is not right, we spent so much money and we are Chelsea ffs, that mentality should be what we are, it just pisses off the fans, we don't expect to win every week, but we expect some trying and a coach with some flexibility or who gets it, at the moment Maresca doesn't get it.

TBH I wonder if putting his team down that way is reflective of an attitude that might be causing some of Chelsea's problems. He's not showing a whole lot of confidence in his team.

Exactly, i also think a lot of these players were generating egos which he didn't control fast enough, he has attempted to with Madueke a lot and i think it worked (working/kinda) but for example Jackson has a stupid ego for what he is, the guy with the lowest ego is also Palmer who is by far our best player, so that isn't good from him either.

He might be another of these coaches which are a great assistant but not a good manager and i feel that is where the game of football is right now, lots of world class coaches but not managers. Every coach is one style, one direction that is it. What happened to playing back 3 vs some times, defend vs some times, front foot attack vs some teams etc, why do you HAVE to play the same way and style every single game no matter if you play vs lower league team or best team on the planet, it just silly and the coaches are made to look silly.

To quote Bruce Lee ‘I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.’

I guess that’s the idea? I can see both the appeal and the pitfalls.

I wonder if we’d see more flexibility match to match if teams had a bit more space to plan and train accordingly for specific matches, especially the top ones.

Maybe, but i still prefer the olden day managers where they are training different styles and being flexible rather than Plan A or Plan A....i mean it wasn't top tactically stuff back 10-15 years ago but i feel it was way more enjoyable.

Watching a team every week concede a goal because there keeper kicks it to someone on the edge of the box is just silly.

Enjoyment doesn’t really come into it, the financial stakes for getting things wrong are too high, which is why I think you’re seeing a combination of quite dogmatic tactics + analytics driven approaches.

Like I don’t think you’ll see a player like Juan Roman Riquelme be given the keys to the kingdom and almost drag a Villarreal to a Champion’s League Final ever again. And you’re talking about one of my top 3 favourite players ever, it’s not a trend I like.

Ancelotti is still a kind of flexible throwback without a dogmatic style and he’ll figure what works. The problem he’s having currently is being given too many problems to try to fudge, but that’s on Perez.

He famously came up with the ‘Christmas tree’ just to accommodate Milan having too many good number 10s, but he’s not a ‘Christmas tree’ manager.

He actually used to be a dogmatic Sacchi disciple, but he changed over time. He expressed regret for basically sacrificing getting the best out of Roberto Baggio because of his former rigidity.

But rambling aside I do kinda agree but I feel the sport has just moved on more broadly.

Yeah enjoyment doesn't come into winning and this sport with the money involved, but on the flip side to that, surely there should be way more managers parking the bus and countering then, instead of watching there keeper give away a goal every week lol.

So frustrating from my point of view at least as the guy in charge is just so inexperienced and we have some top talent which are playing way below themselves. He is so stubborn playing palmer 10 and no where else, last season he was playing right wing and drifting and he had so much more joy because he can isolate a 1v1 more. He still is having a better season technically, he tops the list in the premier league for chances created but we as fans think he just gets lost in the massive midfield and cant realy change the game unless he takes 3 players on in the middle of the park. Put him out to right wing and we could have played Nkunku behind Jackson or Felix behind Jackson for not that less of a level drop off, instead we don't and Felix leaves and Nkunku has been shot with confidence and looks terrible.

Like you said if Ancelotti had this squad he would have fit the players in and we would have had a better system in place, still probably would be in a similar position but atleast we would had better identity.

can't think of the last time any pl squad has been decimated by injuries so much that the bench is literally just academy players

although to be honest, this is all the doing of united itself by loaning out rashford and antony without replacing them.

Mental to see a club like Valencia in the relegation zone for La Liga. Peter Lim has been running them into the ground for years but I shudder to think what he will do if they go down.

Gary Neville and co like to claim the moral high ground but their association with that parasite says otherwise

This was out squad last year. Carabao Cup final is a good example of how far we had fallen with injuries and games around that time period.

Yeah that final was the only real bad time for it though, Chelsea last season was just as mental, we just had players back by the end of it.

Spurs this season is by far the worst (of this season) - Arsenal having a tough time and Yanited all of a sudden everyone got injured so they struggling.

Newcastle last season or the start of this season was also bad.

Arguably, City only losing Rodri had a bigger impact on their performance than all of those injuries added together.

I doubt that only one player like Rodri (not that he is bad) has such an impact on City compared to the injury list that other teams have. City has other issues like players not hungry enough for wins.
