Eh, it still matters but way way less than if Arsenal had won. We can breathe easier now for sure.

You couldn't get relegated this season if you were trying to unfortunately.
As terrible as United have been, they're still 10 points above the drop zone.

what makes you think were going to get any more points this season? we are legitimately dogshit. not an issue of luck or form, we just suck
the incredible thing is it isnt unlikely that ratcliffe would be stupid enough to sack amorim before the season ends. the club is a fucking shambles

An almost inexplicable one.

Rashford has looked decent so far at Villa, Antony has something like 3 man of the match awards from 3 at Betis so far.

We’re almost at the stage where it’s not a quirky observation, players are just better before, or after United. It’s almost becoming a law of nature.

The only player in that squad anyone at the top level might consider is Bruno Fernandes. Who for some reason gets a lot of shit. His mannerisms might annoy people but he’s a quality player and works his arse off. Martinez maybe I suppose.

Assume a blank check book, go down the league and consider if money was no object, how many elite European sides would want their players. It’s not pretty.

Liverpool, Arsenal I mean obviously there’s plenty. Man City I mean come on. Chelsea they’re having issues but there’s plenty of pickups there. Newcastle have Guimares/Tonali/Isak, maybe add Gordon into the mix.

Keep going down. Even Spurs have Kulu who’s been incredible this season, and maybe going a bit unheralded because Spurs have been so abject. Van de Ven is top notch and his sheer pace lets you play unbelievably high up the pitch. Vicario is a quality keeper.

Who do United have? If I was playing a Football Manager season and looking to enhance say, my Inter side? Consistently winning in Italy, and looking to convert that to European winnings, pushing that recent final appearance to a trophy.

United maybe have two players tops I’d buy in that scenario. Basically all of the Premier League participants have at least one such player, and United’s ostensible competitors have 4-5 plus.

It’s such an unbelievable mess, they’re not a high quality squad underperforming anymore, the squad isn’t even that good!

Ratcliffe is for my money worse than the Glazers. They don’t pretend. They also don’t sack the tea ladies to save a fraction of the money wasted on keeping Ten Haag then sacking him, or employing Dan Ashworth and sacking him almost as soon as he was available to work.

His sporting record isn’t good either, even if he wasn’t a massive cunt. Which he is

Are Spurs back??
It warmed my heart seeing Johnson and Spence on the scoresheet for them yesterday.
They absolutely destroyed teams down our right hand side in our promotion season.
Djed Spence was our player of the year, and I'm shocked it took this long for him to break into the Spurs team.

What kind of football fan are ya, wishing former players well? :p I kid, it sure as hell preferable to the real toxic partisanship!

It shocked me as well, but perhaps Spence wasn’t putting in the graft behind the scenes.

Whatever it is, he’s certainly delivering at the minute.

I dunno if they’re back as such, yet but there are promising green shoots. Who’d have thought so many injuries might have badly affected them?

I think if they can bounce back with a respectable league run, doesn’t have to be outstanding, and a proper tilt at the Europa League, I think that’s probably enough evidence to give Ange some rope.

The Europa should be a fair bit easier to win now as well, now that you don’t get drop-outs from the CL. I’m not sure if I like that or not yet. The competition is weaker but equally it did feel kinda lame and wonky having teams drop down and have a safety net for failure.

I think a lot of neutrals like Ange and his approach to the game, but we’re not Spurs fans. He does have to deliver something now his squad is gradually replenishing itself back to strength.

If they do decide to replace him, I think they’ve really gotta go for someone with similar characteristics. Unless you’re willing to do a giant overhaul, you just lose momentum and cohesion just parachuting someone new in if their approach is really different.

I’d love to see Iraola keep doing his thing at Bournemouth, but I can’t see him remaining in situ for all that much longer. He seems a great fit. I’m starting to see rumours linking him to giant jobs like Real, I’d much rather see him go to a Spurs, he’ll be given time to do his thing in a way I just can’t see at Real.

I think many of us non-United fans enjoyed a few years of suffering, but at this point it’s just sad.

Things would be more fun with a competitive United, plus I think all football fans should have sympathy with their fellows when it comes to fuckery. Many do not, which is a pity, but there for the grace of god is anyone’s club if they get shit owners.

The Glazers are parasites that have no business owning a club via the mechanisms they used to obtain it.

Now add Ratcliffe’s lot on top of that? Eugh. Sucks man

It's probably some kind of turning point for United now. Almost every season has been touted as a comeback season that'll bring Utd back to the title race. Now they don't have that kind of excuse and have to actually sit back and plan ahead for the next 3-4 seasons or so and bring in people who can commit to that kind of project.

We'll see how it goes, but I don't think it can get much worse than the current situation.

They’re in a difficult spot now because if reports I’ve read are to be believed they can’t make many signings without sales.

So it could be the case that the penny eventually drops and they do go with the right plan, but at a time they can’t really execute it.

They’ve spent so big, so often and so badly that now they’re in a really rough spot because of it.

Ah, that's really bad then.

I think they had to make plenty of sales anyway to clear out the air, but it's going to be difficult to move some of the deadwood with generous wages.

They still had the 4th biggest club revenue in the world 2023/24 according to Transfermarkt, so I think they're going to be quite alright long term. Next season could really sting though.

I've never seen Liverpool sit in a low block like that and just play out the game like this, but my what a performance from the lads and an incredible tactical decision from Slot. Looked like we were Forest this game, so clean, didn't give up any big chances or any clean looks on goal. What a wonderful wonderful game, I'm so proud of the boys. And Szobo looked like he was going to pass out after the final whistle.

Szobozlai, my lord that man puts in a fucking shift, and he’s not lacking quality either! Even in a team that collectively works bloody hard his workrate is insane.

I think that’s gotta be the league now. The only teams in recent years that could conceivably make up that chase points wise are some of Klopp’s best sides, or some of Pep’s best. You need Liverpool to both drop a lot of points, but you basically have to win every game to be able to capitalise. Which we’ve seen those sides do, I just don’t think either Arsenal can do it, nor will Liverpool drop enough points for them not doing it to even matter.

Zero shade on Arsenal, they’re still a very good side, I think they’ve been a little unlucky at crucial times with decisions and injuries. They’d basically have needed an almost perfect season luck wise this time to keep pace with this Liverpool and they haven’t got that.

Another great game in which Forest lost yesterday.
I went mental when the ref only gave us 3 minutes of stoppage time at the end there. You never see that any more, especially in a game with loads of goals.
What an anti-climax when we just scored on 90 We totally could have got the draw if there was longer.

Still, what a bloody great watch for the neutral and Newcastle deserved it they were absolutely on fire in the first half.

A little IMO. They’ve still been the only side to have players sent off for kicking balls away, and they’re far from the only side who do. Ones that most readily spring to mind and arrested their momentum pretty early. You had that recent Lewis-Skelly red (not the most recent one) that was a pretty baffling call in that game, even if (IIRC) they scraped through anyway.

I don’t think they’re as good a side as Liverpool straight-up. I think they’d need atypically good luck perhaps in that domain, but especially with injuries to match them this season.

The only games I can recall seeing close to 3 mins of injury time are 0-0s where nout happens, or absolute batterings where the ref seemingly is sparing the recipient stretching out the agony, and they happily take it.

Odd for a game like that one. Speaking of as someone who just saw highlights, were Newcastle that good, or did it just take Forest a while to get going? Or did Newcastle just drop off a cliff in the second half and Forest got back in that way? Or a combination of the above.

Pretty damn tight and exciting race for those CL spots that’s for sure. Would love to see Forest pull it off, or a Bournemouth but it’ll be a nail-biter

Who knows what happened?
Forest looked like they were taken surprise cos Newcastle came out with the afterburners on and didn't switch them off until half time, but possibly they just went all out and then ran out of energy just as Forest started to wake up.
It was such a weird game but a very fun watch.
Newcastle are that good when they are good, you just don't expect to see the best and worst of them in one game.
Our passing in the first half was like when we were relegation fodder. We couldn't hit a team mate the whole 45 minutes. Its making me angry remembering it lol. I almost stopped watching.

Newcastle are an interesting team this season. You can tell there's still that edge and quality about them, but then they drop some absurd results from inconsistency like losing to City 4-0 or Bournemouth 1-4. That game honestly felt like an encapsulation of Newcastle's season in one game, first half was when they're grooving, second half looked like their inconsistent ways. It's also why they have very few draws.
