This is taking the worst aspect of the US model (in terms of how it intersects with European football) in no relegation and a closed shop, but without any of the good aspects of the American model, such as salary caps and how drafts work prevent JP Morgan may be throwing the money, but plenty of Europeans who should know better have decided to piss away what makes football so loved via a complete ignorance of why people love it that I can’t realistically blame American influence for this one!

and pl, fifa, uefa etc have to stand by their words and take action. its a huge gamble for them but the integrity of the sport needs it and the fans need it. its the only way to put pressure on the big clubs to cave, because despite all their money they still care about brand value and player contracts. what im curious about now is how the player contracts are worded. do they say the players have to be available for any competition the club takes part in? or does it specify the competitions the player could play in? if its the latter then the players can boycott the club also which would be huge for the good guys

The super league will be a nonfactor for me due to the time factor. It should be the same for most of us in Asia and Oceania (maybe the Americas too)

Of all these clubs, really That tweet (a threat of forming a own world cup) has now been deleted, but in general the threat is quite empty there anyway. How many non-European teams could even be formed with players from just those teams? Or do we then have a worldcup with Argentina, Brazil and Team RestOfAmericas? One team for Asia, one for Africa... But as a compensation you get two Team England. (And maybe you can find some rules change, so they also occasionally win something...)

A) A rare treat, at least in the sense that there is less games, making each individual fixture so much more important. Like the inexplicable loss to Istanbul this year ![]() B) The cutthroat nature of it. One bad loss and you're out. There is a constant feeling of danger, that the run ends for that year and you'll have to start again next year. If you qualify. C) The qualification process itself is a treat. Imagine how dull this years premier league would've become if top4 race wasn't a thing. Yeah it's curious to see West Ham and Everton that high up the table, but would we care as much if there wasn't a chance they knock some other teams out of the European competitions? I don't like the fact that we don't qualify for CL every year, but when we do it feels somewhat earned (yes there is already a huge financial un-fair play going on, hence the word 'somewhat') D) You don't get to see all the matches you want. In StarCraft equivalent terms, Bayern v City this season ended up a bit like Serral vs Maru from a year or two ago. Two arguably the best competitors just never faced each other, which only made everyone want to see it more. ManU vs Barca or Juve will soon enough become just another game of football if it's scheduled to happen four times a season every season. The drama and talking points of bracket luck and who would've beat who are important in building romance of these competitions. I get that I'm probably more invested in following football than most other people out there, but it makes me genuinely wonder that who'll enjoy watching the richest clubs get even richer off the back of an extended pre-season invitational. I think that there are problems in the current system with fixture congestion and uneven playing field, but in my eyes the only stakeholders better off after this proposal are the investors. Eliminate the uncertainty of having to qualify into big global visibility via 'sporting merit' and football becomes a whole lot easier business to manage. E: some typos, I am so angery at this that I typed before having sufficient amounts of coffee to function.

If the super league works it's only a matter of time before the clubs in the super league leave their national league anyway. Why play in a national league when you have a super league without relegation, where you control everything and which makes a lot money. Yup if this goes through you can be sure the teams are going to break away from their domestic leagues and just concentrate on the "super league". Football will be controlled by just the 12 teams which is seriously worrying.

and as insignificant as tottenham are, daniel levy should hang his head in shame. he has the easiest excuse to not take part in the league, as tottenham are frankly no where near deserving enough to be included in that group, and yet he still said yes. hes not even american and cant act like hes clueless about the tradition, history and spirit of the sport. what a huge betrayal.

Otherwise I'd say that AFC Wimbledon is the shining star that should guide everyone who loves football. Kick those billionaires out of the people's sport and build a system where club members and fans control the boards.

I suppose the SL is banking on that the "solidarity" money they will send to national associations will serve to put pressure on the FAs ("if you kick us out no money for you"). And of course the fact that current sponsorship and TV deals will have to be renegotiated if the big fish leave the pond. But the FAs gotta do it anyway. If they wait and the SL is established the teams are leaving later on anyway, as has been pointed out. They will begin by wanting to play SL in the weekend and move league games midweek, and when FAs don't oblige they'll state that "inflexibility" as a reason for leaving. They already suggested this for the UCL.
