This might work for EU clubs but what about English clubs?
Brexit makes this more complicated.
Individual national teams can also refuse to call up players. I would hardly be surprised if the German team did this.
Also very little chance German clubs join this league. The fans (i.e. owners) have to approve of it first.

The clubs have nothing to do with national football. Players can sue all they want but the FAs don't have to call anyone up for the national team and neither does the UEFA have to let anyone play in their tournament.

On what rule or based on what? Because they can? This doesn't sound good.

How do you figure? Surely UEFA/FIFA can let whoever they want (and don't) play in their tournaments?

How do you figure? Surely UEFA/FIFA can let whoever they want (and don't) play in their tournaments? There's competition law on both sides. There's going to be alot of huge legal battles and its going to go into EU law about the free market etc. I'm curious as to how Brexit will affect that over here.

Sky Sports are quoting an anonymous board member of one of the English breakaway clubs with the following.
The owners of the clubs involved were fully expecting a backlash to the super league plans but were 'not worried' about bad PR. “Our primary job is to maximise our revenues and profits. The wider good of the game is a secondary concern.”
Several of the American owners cannot understand why we have relegation in English football. They just can't get their heads around the concept.
Chelsea and Manchester City had major reservations about joining, but in the end decided they could not afford to be left playing in a weakened premier league.

I stilll cannot get my head around the fact, that these rich ... insert a profanity here ... buy the football clubs as an investition and not as a hobby. So while they're immensely rich, they cannot afford to have a football club losing money or, the horror, not making enough of it.

I do not like the part about not beeing able to participate in Euros/ World cup.
Kick them out of the leagues, Cups and Champions league sure. That hits the club and the owners. But Euros / WC hits the players the most.

In the end it ends like the NHL, but with harsh restrictions from the UEFA/FIFA. Good job. Hey, not having the top players on the Euro and WC, what can go wrong? The Olympic Games already cannot have the top players anyway, thanks FIFA.

If the teams and players are sectioned off in a shitty league of their own doing fine. I don't want them polluting my league with their mercenary bullshit. Players included, as long as they have a choice. Then the plastic fans can enjoy watching the same no stakes rubbish every year and the rest of us can enjoy supporting our teams without the toxic BS these Americans are infecting our game with.

Either you make stupid amounts of money and are eligible for the national team or you go make insane money but are banned The only problem are current contracts and players not getting out of them, but for now its only talk and posturing anyway

I have no sympathy for players.
They aren't being coerced by any meaningful situation.
Even the worst paid players in top leagues make absolutely obscene amounts of money by any reasonable standard. They also have the option of making tons of money at other clubs that don't sell out like this.
Major professional athletes are in the perfect position to make a moral stand against something like this.

The published champions league changes include four spots reserved for prestige teams that didn't qualify. Why oh why even that has to have handouts for the richest?
Other than that I'm okay with the swiss format and whatnot, fixture congestion is gonna be a problem, but they were never gonna reduce the number of games anyways, were they.

SkySports right now is freaking out that the Sport of "Soccer/Futbol" no longer exists...
edit: Why couldn't it have been a German or even an Italian bank... -.-;

Why does anyone feel sorry for players in here? If they want to leave the super league they can. We all know player power is real. If a whole team (of players) decided they dont want to miss a world cup they have the power to leave the club or make the club do their bidding.
With losing fans to their stupid ideas, players have become even more important for the clubs now.

Mourinho sacked
supposedly for opposing to the superleague

So early termination paycheck, then a bigger one for the book deal. Win/Win.

As much as I have issues with Arteta, it must absolutely suck being in his position and having this completely new league forced onto him without his knowledge
