Whenever I hear someone floating any idea about "fewer customers and less money" i'm reminded of that Jerry Maguire movie. Jerry Maguire gets insta-fired for suggesting the company makes less money and bring on fewer customers in order to improve the happiness of the employees. www.youtube.com

2018-2019 was a 177 day season with 82 games. This year was a 146 day season with 72 games.
the season was only slightly condensed.
There was a great uproar around 2017 and 2018 about spacing the games out more in order to give players more rest. Welp, the 2015-16 season was 170 days long. So for all the theatrics during that time period about giving players more rest days.... the players got 7 extra days.
There were 17.8 back to back games per team in 2015-2016. That was down to 13.3 in 2018-2019. The NBA also managed to reduce the number of 4 games in 5 nights and 5 games in 7 nights stretches.
These things can matter in the margins. Think about it this way. A 146 day season with 72 games has 72 days with games and 74 without, only 2 more. A 177 day season with 82 games has 82 days with games and 95 days without, 13 more. Those extra days without games give players time to heal from all these overuse and fatigue injuries.
Or you can think of those 7 extra days in a normal season that you're dismissing as the equivalent of your boss giving you 1 extra PTO day per month to recharge your batteries.
the fans and the tv networks will hate it, but i think more back to backs in the same city like what they did this year would be very helpful in a regularly scheduled season.

The Raptors played zero 4 games in 5 night stretches in 2015-2016. Pretty sure the CBA did not allow 4 in 5 in the 2015-2016. You can't get lower than zero.
interesting look at Kawhi's knee injury and a medical guy questions why there is no MRI.
After Kawhi's feud with the Spurs over medical diagnosis' one must wonder if Kawhi and the Clippers are feuding right now over a medical diagnosis.
When is the last time an NBA player twisted their knee in a playoff game, missed a game and the final minutes of another game and no MRI was performed to aid in the diagnosis of the injury?

If Kawhi can't play next year i'm uncertain whether or not the Clippers are "doing what ever he wants". And, until "more imaging results" come in.. I'm certain of nothing on the injury diagnostic side.
What a clusterfuck the Clippers continue to be. It is fascinating to watch though. IMO, Ty Lue deserves a metric tonne of credit for steering this titanic through the icebergs.

Celtics are a good case study on how stockpiling draft picks is the easy part of building a contender that any idiot can do. They used to have such a deep team with a lot of draft picks. Then they lost Hayward, Irving and Horford and are now trading Kemba to get Oldford back. They don't have the depth and the multitude of draft picks they used to have.
There are only so many impact players in the NBA. Translating a dozen mid to late round draft picks to even one impact player is a lot easier said than done.

I agree, but it does keep the fan base happy while the team struggles!
Boston made the mistake of not "over paying" in picks for established stars. OKC will have that challenge and also that not as many people want to go there so the FA approach will likely not work. Will be fun to see how it works out.
Meh. They had Kyrie and Hayward in thier primes with Tatum & Brown. The fact is Boston is an example of how player empowerment means there is going to be a near-permanent NBA underclass for teams in the lesser cities.
The Hawks, Suns, Bucks, and Clippers have been in the NBA a combined 87 bazillion years and combined for 2 NBA titles. It'll be cool seeing 1 of these teams win it all.
Simmons is such a weird player. He can play lock down defense, he can pass the ball nicely. But something is seriously wrong with his offensive game. He doesn't shoot. He lurks underneath the basket, while almost never getting offensive boards. That open layup / dunk today which he passed to Thybulle sums it up perfectly. He's a liability in playoff games due to his abysmal FT shooting. Hating on him is easy, but Philly need to sort this out quickly. The whole Embiid / Simmons combo simply doesn't work. At least Curry and Harris showed up today. Embiid also played well, but he can't hard carry that team in the long run. His body won't allow it.
In the end, it doesn't matter who wins the east. They're gonna get rolled by the Clippers or the Suns.

For sure, and I'm not like a Danny Stan, but who realistically did better over the last 10 years? He lost 2 All-NBA caliber players for 0 assets through no fault of his own. They lost Kyrie because, he obviously hated the city. They lost Hayword to a freak injury. What other franchise lost 2 equivalent assets and even made the playoffs?

He faced reporters after the game and took some savage questions. Respect for that. But there IS something seriously wrong with his game and mindset.
wtf!?
