For sure, and I'm not like a Danny Stan, but who realistically did better over the last 10 years? He lost 2 All-NBA caliber players for 0 assets through no fault of his own. They lost Kyrie because, he obviously hated the city. They lost Hayword to a freak injury. What other franchise lost 2 equivalent assets and even made the playoffs?
Yeah they had a awful run of health luck. I still think when you get that many picks it is best to send some of them for a established star at some point. But given that Boston could attract top end FA and they could use the picks to put cheap talent around them could have been brillant for boston with better health luck. OKC that won't be an option.
I hope TO or another team I like picks up Simmons for cheap, no doubt he is flawed, but it is always the best time to buy when the assets value is the lowest. You could build around him as long as your bigs were all shooters. If Phi is at the salary dump point a sign and trade around lowery would be amazing for the raps. Someone will be getting simmons on pennies on the dollar.
boston only traded 1 pick in the package for irving
they pretty much kept all their picks in the last 5-6 years, and looking at it, only their high picks were any good (tatum, brown), rest were role players at best. really goes to show that you can stockpile as many mid/late 1st round picks as u want but if you truly want a star, they're pretty much worthless. but who knows how hard ainge even tried to get rid of them
Ownership is prolly very happy with what Ainge did. The owners are some guys worth a few hundred million along with some kind of landmark building company. Naturally, the Celtics will never advertise this : the team is on a very strict budget. Their ownership group reminds me of Toronto Maple Leafs ownership from 20 years ago.
Both teams managed a series of deep playoff rounds and were ~15-1 odds of winning a title for several consecutive years. During that time both the Abbey Group and the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund watched their INVESTMENT grow by an order of magnitude. Lots of playoff dates bringing in buckets of cash along with skyrocketing TV rights deals.
Ainge prolly did not have the autonomy to trade away the future. Ownership would not allow it. Part of the poker game GMs play with each other includes Ainge hinting that picks "might be available for the right price".
The Celtics are no longer a basketball team. They no longer play in "The Gaw-den". They play in a place where the `Toronto-Dominion Bank` has naming rights. The Celts are a line item on a spreadsheet.
Similarly, Activision is not a "video game development company". They were bought by a guy who canned everyone but 4 people and then he leveraged brand awareness of the name.
Both Activision and the "Celtics" will regale us with amazing tales of the amazing times everyone had consuming their brand products during the Reagan 80s. meh, they are both just investments headed by people who know how to milk consumers for money via an emotional connection to the past.

Wasn't that star Kyrie Irving?
I mean I guess. Turns out both stars in the trade were injured when it matters (IT WAY WAY worse). But I mean everytime a paul george, Davis, Kawhi was up it was always to expensive. He could have traded more then anyone else and was always over bid. Sometimes I believe you have to overpay in futures for those top of top, the chances of hitting them your self are slim.
Is it really an overpay though? One of my contentions when I started this discussion on the Celtics is I think those mid to late first round picks are overrated. You can get a lot of good role players in that range but you can't put more than 5 guys on the court at any given time. Getting a star player with those picks is an absolute crapshoot.
There are way more teams with available assets than there are available star players. And even when you do get a star player, their health and fit are not assured. Flipping multiple draft picks for a star player that would make an actual difference is a lot easier said than done.

It was too expensive not because of the draft picks. No one wanted their horde of picks for those players. It was always Tatum or Brown + picks for the 1 year rental.
Durant and Harden commit to the Olympics. This will be Durant's 3rd Olympics and he even played in one of those low profile FIBA world events. Say what you want about Durant's personality ... he is a loyal American.
I guess Kyrie Irving's ankle injury is pretty serious. All any one can do is guess though because it appears the MRIs are going missing as no prognosis has been given for either Irving or Leonard.

He does sound like a decent guy from all indications. His major issue is he doesn't know how to let go of an Internet argument and he takes criticism too seriously. Many of us would be in trouble too if we were famous like him.
2 years ago playing for his next contract Kawhi limped through the final 15 games of a gruelling 24 game playoff run. When asked if he was playing injured he said "everyone is banged up".
This year...
"I can't speak for him, to the health of Kawhi," George said, via ESPN. "If he's not 100, we don't want him out there. I mean, that's just as a brother, as a teammate. His health long term is more important than what's going on now. I can't speak on the extent of his injury or, you know, what he [can] and cannot give us. Like I've been saying, his health is just more important than anything else."
Kawhi was no where near 100% for most of his 2019 playoff run.
Trae Young doesn't step on that ref's ankle and I say the Hawks win and we've got a barn burner of a series. The muscles on these guys are so finely tuned.... they are like F1 cars... the slightest malfunction and their entire kinetic chain is at risk.

I gather you require a refresher on what makes the PG13 quote fascinating.

And I mean if you believe anything Skip Bayless says I have some bridges to sell to you, he has no contacts, players hate him because he just makes shit up.
You're taking yourself , skip and i way too seriously man. you respond so fast! LOL. Any how , we're talking about men who play a children's game.
When you have no diagnosis based on MRI results... no prognosis.. and BS about "we need more imaging". After this you then produce no imaging results 10+ days later. This leaves you wide open to speculation by carnival barkers like Skip.
That said, more "journalists" are piling on the speculation bus.
"60% to 80% of athletes disagree with the team DRs"
The Clippers have now played 15 games in 29 days. The last run like this I can recall is the Raptors 2016 playoff run where they played 20 games in 39 days. The buzz in the city during the 2016 run was wild.
What percentage of non-Americans under 35 have any clue who Reggie "Mr October" Jackson is? I'd say its close to zero. These american ommentators keep eluding to him every Clippers broadcast.
Do Americans under 35 know him? When I go to baseball games in Boston and Chicago I'm constantly shocked by the in depth knowledge so many Americans have of baseball. But does the average american know who he is though?
It is interesting how Paul George acknowledges that surgeries result in him losing stuff he'll never get back.

you respond to my posts in less than a minute and use words like "hate" to describe people's reactions to Skip. you're taking my posts too seriously with your instantaneous responses. Skip is a joke. You're taking Skip too seriously.
Any how, if you don't understand its not a big deal.

The shows give an idea of what mainstream people are thinking. The longer there is no prognosis for Kawhi the more speculation there will be. This also applies to any starter left in the playoffs. If a starter stops playing and there is no prognosis... people will start to talk especially if the team tries to BS the situation. Given Kawhi's history ... there is even more talk.
