https://www.yahoo.com/sports/linebacker-paul-worrilow-retires-from-nfl-hours-after-signing-with-ravens-162237438.html Before the Ravens could even pencil Paul Worrilow into their depth chart, the 29-year-old linebacker is already leaving town. The former Atlanta Falcon decided to retire from the NFL less than 24 hours after the Baltimore announced his signing and left the Ravens’ coaching staff searching for more answers at a time when they’d otherwise be smoothing out their roster. You go to sleep thinking you’ve got another piece to your defense locked in. You wake up to the news that he’s decided to stop playing football altogether. Or at least Worrilow is done playing for now. According to NJ.com’s Mike Kaye — who covered Worrilow in Philadelphia last season — Worrilow’s change of heart stems from the fact that his wife is due with another child in September and he wanted to be with his family at this time. It’s certainly an admirable reason to pause any career, let alone one as an athlete in a league that burns through players as quickly as the NFL does. Kaye says Worrilow wanted to play but that his priorities changed. That’s understandable. Especially considering that the linebacker was forced to sit out all of last season in Philadelphia with a torn ACL. He rejoined the Eagles for camp this year but was let go without seeing any preseason action. That’s a long time away from getting into a game. Worrilow wasn’t guaranteed to make the roster in Baltimore — though his 413 tackles, 11 deflections and four sacks in 72 career games surely gave him a leg up — but there was a need on the depth chart at inside linebacker as the team takes its time bringing Chris Board back from a concussion.

Reportedly the financial settlement was reached... and then after that he retired. This is a man who puts love of the game and passion before all other considerations people! https://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/report-colts-reach-settlement-luck-couldve-recouped-24-8m/

Is everybody now playing the "hey, we have a backup QB that the colts could use, maybe they'll trade us a second rounder for him now!" game as shamelessly as I am?

Is everybody now playing the "hey, we have a backup QB that the colts could use, maybe they'll trade us a second rounder for him now!" game as shamelessly as I am? While I hope we can pick up a back-up QB from another team in a trade, I don't feel that there is an urgent need to get one. We still have Brissett, and given that he had more or less everything going against him in 2017 (including a bad O-line), I'm impressed that he did not suffer a career-ending injury that season. So I am hopeful that he can do a decent job, now that he has a new (and better) head coach

Colts have scary good defense, and most complete roster , Frank will still become coach of the year imo Texas RB is out for year, Clowney's gonna hold out, tough schedule, bad secondary Mariota will not make it through the whole season and have a tough schedule Jags lost most starters on defense, Foles isnt enough, O-line bad Brisset has a year of starting with the Colts under his belt, the Colts will still win the division going 9-7

It wasn't even supposed to come out yet, it got leaked. They let him keep the money because it's a nice thing to do for a guy who got busted up playing through multiple injuries and being tough as nails. It also tells the rest of the league that if you play hard for the Colts, they'll take good care of you. Not sure if they were motivated more by the first or second part, but it seems good and smart either way.

I cannot imagine how tough the decision must have been for Luck but there are better ways to retire.
