Saying Brazil treated him like Nazi Germany I find inaccurate because one is getting booed for racial reasons and the other to destabilize the opponent. Both are wrong, but for very different reasons. The banana throwing I mentioned is closer to the "nazi" treatment than the booing he received. It was a stupid statement, but this was already discussed enough in this thread and we have beach volleyball today! Nono, Lavillenie said that the amount/intensity of booing he received was similar, not that he was booed for the same reason, because that's not the case. Anyways, looks like Brazilians know how to play handball pretty well, and this I didn't know.

Still doesn't mean Lavillenie's comparison is inaccurate, or that he should be booed for saying that. Japanese fans are the best in the world. We even clean up stadiums of other countries
This I definitely agree and I´m actually planning to go to Tokyo during the Olympics. Always wanted to go to Japan.

I cant comprehend how Onesta, one of the best coaches in the world, is acting like some random young handball apprentice who came here to learn and pass the towels. If Dinart has completely taken over the team, why is Onesta even on the bench?
It looks really demeaning.

Onesta is not a tactical coach but a manager in the purest sense of the word ; he thinks that how well a player fits within the group, character-wise, is much more important than how well a player fits within a tactical system. He makes sure to choose players specifically depending on their values and character in order to achieve a almost alchemical balance in the group. Dinart seems to me to be much more of a tactical guy, and he indeed handles the tactical stuff, which is why it looks like Onesta is very passive compared to him. Although yeah, the fact that he's nearing retirement while Dinart is on the way to inherit the world's best team is also a factor.

Attendance at the track stadium has been pretty low and disappointing. They don't show up to support their own athletes, even when they're winning golds, and the few who do show up are booing foreigners. I've read about the corruption of the people in power but the common people also seem to be in a world of their own.
|
It´s low because the government gave A LOT of tickets to sponsors. There are empty seats because these sponsors didn´t use all of them, so we have a low attendance and a lot of people, the "common people", who wanted to be there couldn´t.

I don't think that saying that the tickets were just given away and people still didn't show up is really helping the case.
|
It´s not what I said. I said they gave to sponsors, like Coca Cola, so these sponsors could do and give them to whoever they wanted. They ended up having the tickets but not giving to anyone, resulting in a lot of empty seats. The people who wanted to attend the games couldn´t, because the amount destined to the general public was only a fraction of the total tickets.

So you're saying that the majority of tickets weren't given to local sponsors, or local divisions of international sponsors, but rather to foreigners who did not show up?
Anyway, anyone can go attempt to buy tickets themselves and see that they're available for purchase. What you're saying makes the locals look even worse if it's true, since the majority of tickets aren't available to them and they're still not buying all of the fraction that remains.

The local sponsors also received and didn't use all of them, but you are indeed right that the attendence is low for the matches it isn't sold out online.

Brazil is not the US or any first world country in which people can afford tickets easily. Rio de Janeiro is broke and many "locals" have better things to do than buying overpriced tickets to please you.

It is indeed true, that this is a lot about the sponsors to blame. It is the usual practice, that the sponsors receive their tickets for whatever they wanna use them for, but give back the ones they aren't using shortly before the competitions. Those tickets are then usually given out for free to schools and other social projects. But for some reasons the sponsors neither used their tickets this time nor gave them back.

didnt even get the Brazil Honduras game on fast enough to see the first goal

Can't really blame the local Brazilians for this one. The commodities slowdown and the ongoing fallout of operation Lava Jato have wrecked the local economy. The Olympics have further bankrupted the city. Why should the common people, with their own problems, support the enriching of people who bankrupted their city?
And lol at how fast Brazil scored against Honduras.

glad to see brazil get their stuff together finally in their home country. the start of the tournament was definitely not very promising.
edit: 7-0?
