Anyway, anyone can go attempt to buy tickets themselves and see that they're available for purchase. What you're saying makes the locals look even worse if it's true, since the majority of tickets aren't available to them and they're still not buying all of the fraction that remains. Brazil is not the US or any first world country in which people can afford tickets easily. Rio de Janeiro is broke and many "locals" have better things to do than buying overpriced tickets to please you. It's not to please me. It's for a better setting for the athletes. It seems like the reaction of Brazilians is either "should we enjoy it since we have it?" or "should we hate it out of spite?" with hardly anyone thinking "well, since we've got it, we have a duty to be good hosts." I'm sure some people are trying to be good hosts, and I'm sure some free tickets are in the control of locals that aren't being used, and I'm sure some people who are skilled and hard workers who ought to be able to afford a ticket cannot afford it, but without knowing facts and figures, I cannot draw any conclusions. Nonetheless it does not seem that there are simply a few selfish government officials but rather some cultural issues with the Brazilian common people playing host to the games. I would hope that the Olympics being there could be uplifting but instead it seems many are just being dragged down and nothing seems likely to improve. But still this isn't really ruinous to most and I'm personally immensely enjoying this Olympics. I'm pretty happy that everyone predicting this would be a disaster were very wrong. And also happy that people shitting on the US's coverage turned out to be very wrong. The pessimists are down to nitpicking to save their positions.

finally teams finishing chances in the men's tournament. games should have been so much higher scoring with looks people were getting but the shooting was just awful early on

I imagine tickets here are more expensive (relative to GDP/capita and minimum wage) than in first world countries. For example, for the next track event the cheapest ticket is 280 reais (a bit more than 1/4 of the minimum wage) and those are invariably sold out. Maybe they made some pricing mistakes, maybe they expected more foreign fans, I don't really know.

Fair points, but I actually think that the reception over here and the support from the people were bigger than I expected. The economy and political situation is crazy, 10 days from now we will probably have an impeachment...

Perhaps they lost their wallets in some other fashion and to cover up, they told the robbery story.
Maybe their wallets were taken from them in some shady strip bar/brothel, and they are embarrassed to admit being there.

Haven't you guys been drunk before? Multiple times I've woken up somewhere with no recollection of how I got there, and I don't drink often.

Story sounds pretty shady now tbh. They're certainly in the right place to be robbed but it seems unlikely that these two were.

yes but if someone had pulled a gun on you, i think u would wake up pretty fast. plus, lochte seemed to be quite aware of what was going on, he described the robbery pretty good.

You wouldn't forget a gun being pointed at you but you might well forget the colour of the taxi. But I can see the inconsistencies. It's a pretty elaborate lie if it is a lie, but it does seem suspect.

They shouldn't be against it though, I don't think this German team would be favored... though they are doing way better than I would have thought.

Yeah with the players Brazil brought they should definitely be the favorites against either team. Nigeria isn't bad either though. This Germany Nigeria game has been one of the more interesting ones of the tournament
