Interesting study. I bet it is causing a stir on facebook with the anti-anti-gluten crowd.

I wasn't aware that gluten intolerance was even disputed.

Total gluten intolerance backlash. Gluten-free products have gone through the roof the last 3 years.

I'd say it's more of a correction to the HOLY SHIT GLUTEN IS GOING TO KILL EVERYONE fad that paleo started. And lol @ food labels a day. You can't buy a bottle of water without it being tagged as gluten free.

So? so is every athlete in the olympics
My favorite part from his wiki: "He reports working out multiple times a day and prefers not to take days off from training, unlike many other athletes."

I only just saw this thread \o/

Was sick for about 2.5 weeks with fevers and weakness... went to the ER and had high liver functioning (they thought Hepatitis A but thankfully it wasn't) on top of my general weakness/fever and by then, coughing/running nose (one doc said pneumonia). Spent a week in the hospital and lost about 7 kg despite eating fairly normally while in the hospital (Korean food + snacks). First time in the gym this morning and I could barely squat 135 for 5 reps (normally I do about 205-225 for 5x5). My calves felt weak for some reason. Benching 5x5 at 135 was fairly easy (usually can do about 5x5 at ~170).
Riding my bike home (~7 mins) it took like 30 minutes to stop breathing hard. Shit took a lot out of me.
Take care of your health!

Yeah, that's a shitload of weight. Are you very short or were you borderline malnourished?
Bench: (2 sec pause)135kgx3x2, 145kgx3x2, 155x1
I will try a bench PR next week, I'm lifting enough for it I think.

Okay so I guess I better post some goals. From being really super unhealthy the last two years I finally decided to get into shape about a month and a half ago. I started running daily (and I mean from walking 90% of the route to running 100% took a fair amount of time) and I burnt out after a few weeks because I wasn't always feeling well and the weather wasn't in my favour etc. But starting running really made an instant difference to my eating habits, so I am intending to keep it up!
- I plan to be able to run the 5km circuit of my block by Wednesday next week. At the moment I am on 3.5km but getting out of bed in the morning the last few days has been hard. So, tomorrow! No excuses! - I plan to cook something healthy each evening and take the left overs to work. - I plan to try and eat fish at least once a week. - I plan to keep up my yoga every second evening for a minimum of 2 months.
They sound a bit difficult to attain, but with some effort I'm sure I can make it a habit, and I know I will feel sooooo much better.

Sounds like a good start, stick with it and keep us updated.

Even on days where I'm really worn down or have a million other things to do, my day just doesn't feel complete anymore if I haven't lifted anything. I still get burnt out from time to time, but so does everyone.
Good luck and keep posting here!

Some guy at my gym can bench 170kg and he told me that he has been working out for a year only ; before that he was just an average guy who was "fit" enough because he was doing a lot of sport.
Is that even possible ? Without supplements (aside from protein powder) ? He told me he didn't use supplements and here in France suplements are not very popular indeed ; a lot of gym bros eat protein powder but that's it. (II don't even take protein powder, just egg whites.) He does look "natural" because he's not all muscle, nothing like the ultimate bodybuilder with veins and minimal bodyfat ; he weighs around 110kg (he's definitely not all fat either, he just has decent bodyfat).
I was tempted to ask him what his training method was because if he is telling the truth then yes that's actually very impressive, but then I thought that this couldn't possibly be the case. Maybe he's forgetting something or maybe he does take supplements. Also he's 20 years old lol.
Funny thing is this poor guy, who is very strong and should be able to use a comfortable gym, has been training at my shitty gym for the whole time, where you have to wait around to use benches and you can't do squats / overhead press without using a smith machine.
|
Sounds like he is just a big strong guy. Did you see him actually bench that much? I am always skeptical of what a gym bro tells me he can bench. A big difference from a 170 kilo clean bench and a "i moved 170 kilo up a little while on a bench with a spotter." But maybe he is just a strong, big dude.
On to another topic. I have been diagnosed with triceps tendonitis by a doc after months of elbow pain. I am looking at a few weeks (2? more may kill me) off from pressing exercises. What do I do to retain as much muscle and strength at all times as possible? Should i spend a couple weeks on the rowing machine with some squatting on the side?
