But in reality, stadiums as revenue generators is an absolute crock of shit. If you follow any of the major sports in the States, this happens, and it's a loss every time for the city. For the WC and Olympics, it's a well known fact that the stadiums often go completely unused after. Countries, especially worse of nations, pour in shitloads of money for these things and get so little back. It's a goddamn scam that lines the pockets of FIFA and corrupt people brokering those deals.

Even the idea of hosting a world cup over all of Europe would be a great idea. It would greatly reduce the cost for the countries and you expand the pool of countries that could profit from it. But what I really wanted is a WC in Portugal+Spain. From Barcelona to Lisbon is a little over one hour by plane. and these are virtually the most far away stadiums that you could have on this hypothetical world cup. And you have 10 stadiums above 50k, and some of them would need any modifications. Camp Nou Barcelona 99354 Estadio Santiago Bernabéu Madrid 85454 Estádio da Luz Lisbon 64400 Estadio de la Cartuja Seville 60000 Estadio Benito Villamarín Seville 56500 Estadio de Mestalla Valencia 55000 Estadio Vicente Calderón Madrid 54960 Estadio San Mamés Bilbao 53000 Estádio do Dragão Porto 50399 Estádio José Alvalade Lisbon 50049

It could host the men's world cup, women's world cup, and Olympics during the NFL playoffs and be fine. True, I was only looking at stats for Football (or soccer) stadiums. Of course the US has tons more stadiums which just need a temporary pitch. Although I don't know whether all of them would be wide enough (I vaguely remember from '94 that there were some complaints from the better teams that since these were US Football pitches they would tend to be close to the 70 yards minimum FIFA requires).

The only real negatives in my mind are that in the dead of summer turf is insanely hot vs grass. Also the potential health concerns about it namely the ground tires. There's not been any real studies, but that one goalie mentioned that he knows several other goalies who have blood cancers. I wouldn't put a ton of stock into that without a real study. But as far as game play, I think it's 10x better on turf. I guess they get better grass at a soccer only pro stadium but the stuff that the other 99% play on it's not even close. The grass you have on pro stadiums is like playing on soft plushy silk. Turf is pretty much asking to get your legs razed in a physical game. Even MLS has better grass than turf. And the thing with grass vs turf is bad grass might damage you if you slide on it but turf absolutely razes your skin if you fall on it and cuts into it. I play on turf the entire winter and I like it but I would never play seriously on it. You are not more likely to get hurt on turf but the nature in which you get hurt where even a fall on your hand can result in getting your skin cut (even quality turf does this) its kinda annoying. Ofcourse you could just wear pants and play on it. Also guys. Blatter isnt gone yet and probably wont be gone for another 6-9 months. He might even last till next years congress. We are in uncharted territory as far as FIFA's history is concerned and the squabbling and uncertainty means things may well be quite slow. The African block still likes Blatter. He gave them plenty of development money. He just didnt do anything to make sure if it really went to development. That was perfect for them. There arent really any ready leaders with more than 50 percent of the worlds support so it will be a painful process. As nice as you might think that maintaining power in the footballing super powers+ Show Spoiler + (who are way more mature I agree) It is not a viable solution because it will create its own set of problems now that the world has been exposed to being a relevant force. If anything FIFA will be accused of being what it was before Sepp came into play. An elitist organization that only cared about the big countries and not about football. So this transition will be slugging and painful imo. But lets hope we get some good out of it.

I've never expereienced any of the stuff with muscles being tigher or whatever else they were complaining about with the women's suit. Turf burns sucks, esp since I play goal sometimes, but man I'd take that landing over grass any time as a goalie. I dunno, I guess turf burns don't bother me a ton. And as far as catching a rut or getting stuck and busting your knee, I don't think I've ever had that happen on turf and I have on grass and I've played for like 20+ years. But then again, all the grass fields here aren't anywhere near as even or nice as pros, so yeah. I dunno, I just always preferred the game on turf since it's faster and cleaner with a perfectly level field.

Its not something I can relate to so I choose to believe them on it. But thats just me. I have stepped onto the emirates pitch a few of years back while I was passing through London during the summer and its like the footballing equivalent of a bed of roses.

Curroption or not there are contracts between a lot of people and they are already building the stadiums. There is no way this is taken away from Russia and Qatar.

Depends on which laws are applicable to the contracts, but at least in Germany the contracts would likely become void if actual corruption was proven, don't think we are the only country with laws like that. So much in theory. Russia isn't losing the WC unless they invade the Baltic states and Qatar unless they start pissing of their Asian and African allies. It's mostly just wishful thinking by people that don't like the 2018 and 2022 hosts/the way the tournaments were awarded. And from what I read Blatter is staying longer than 4 months. Possibly between December and March or only with the 2016 congress.
