Sad day for football. We prefer Prince Ali of whatever to become FIFA's president. This is how bad Blatter is... Personally I don't really care what will happen with that organization. When I think about it, I don't know what FIFA does aside from the Word Cup and writing some vague rules. European football can exist just fine without global organization.

To be fair, he was the prefered candidate of the English FA. Whilst that might not mean much to the rest of Europe to me it does mean alot considering the other candidates there was to pick. Ala Figo and Praag of Netherlands, so i think he should deserve a bit of credit maybe? Would hate to think he is just like Blatter in terms of being corrupt and the English FA gave him the vote

As cool as it would be, it would never work. The travel costs would kill smaller clubs. When Seattle Sounders played New York Red Bulls earlier this MLS season, they had to travel 4600 kilometers, which is about a 6 hour flight. Going from London to Istanbul is only about 3000 kilometers.
Of course, that's an extreme example. Our sports are divided into smaller divisions, usually splitting the teams into a western conference, and an eastern one, to reduce travel. But going from Seattle to LA is still 1800km. Seattle is in the same conference as Houston Dynamo; those two cities are about 3700km from each other...
Alaska and Hawaii would never work for the same reason, Hawaii is nearly 4000km from the west coast of the USA, and has a 6 hour time difference with the east coast. Going from Hawaii to New York would basically be traveling halfway around the world, and you're still in the same country :x
Another reason is the population density. A lot of the country (especially the central part) is farmland, plains, or mountains or something. For instance, Montana is about the size of Japan (which has 127 million people), but it only has about a million residents. Wyoming has the lowest population of all states with about 585,000, and is a little bigger than the entire UK.

The thing is - it doesn't even matter who is the president. FIFA is corupt at its core. Even if we put the Dalai Lama in charge, nothing will be changed. One person, even if it is the president, cannot do much when the people below him doesn't want to change. Maybe I'm too pesimistic, but for 15+ years I haven't seen anything good from FIFA, so I don't expect much.

If a new president can't change anything it can still be blown up and Uefa saying that multiple members want to leave is very nice. Then again I am also pessimistic and believe nothing will happen at all. Blatter reelected, a few scapegoats will be slaughtered and Uefa will keep their number of WC spots until the next election and the attention will die down.

TCF Stadium is the U of M's stadium, seats 80,000 with I think an addition that was made for the NFL team while their new stadium is built. According to Wikipedia, the new Viking's stadium only seats 73,000 XD. But Minnesota is a good example of a lot of this because we have a history of Franchises leaving the state. The LA Lakers were the Minneapolis Lakers, a name that actually makes sense for Minnesota, and the team was moved to LA shortly after the Dodgers moved in the early sixties. Same for the old NHL team, the North Stars, or now the Dallas Stars. Teams follow the money, and you need a lot of money to be competitive. I don't think the good people of Wichita, Kansas want to show up to watch their team limp into a professional event in the dominant professional league of your choosing, just to have it look like Michael Jordan playing 1 on 1 with the neighborhood dads. Interestingly enough, while looking at Wichita because that was the first city that came to mind, there seem to exist a lot of peripheral, smaller leagues that pretty much no one outside of people in the local area/the very dedicated would be aware of; the graphic below are cities with AA Hockey teams. Minnesota has a AAA Baseball team called the Saints, which Bill Murray co-owns. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/mOD2gs9.png) I guess that is a very round about way of saying, there is probably a semi-pro/pro team in a given metropolitan area of a reasonable size, the league just isn't really covered without really looking for it. Hmm ok then, but in terms of the MLS for example the whole MLS has 20 teams and there are 50 states? So imo it would be better to have a proper league system of Eastern 1 Eastern 2 and West 1 West 2 and divide it up to 25 teams a piece and go that way. But i guess that just me being European and a bit unfair to the US for what they do. I just find it said that you have to make "x" amount of money to be successful or the team just disappears lol well if a business keeps losing money, why would they keep it open? those small town football clubs in europe, who owns them? is it like a local person or like the town itself? I get that part but in terms of most football teams in Europe not many have a positive income to full effect, but they still fill stadiums every week. Its the opposite in American system though? If you don't fill a stadium regardless of "x" income they can just pack up and move the team? I understand the well its making no money they dont deserve it, but if that was the case in football across Europe. Teams like Chelsea and Atletico would not have existed by now. You need to go to the Russian National Football League for a proper away trip. Distance from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin Island 7,106 km.
This conversation reminds me of a friend I know who posted a picture of 60 away fans at a Plymouth game mocking how they had no fans. I asked him if he knew where Morecombe was. He did not.

Yeah i tip my hat off to people who go from London to Newcastle lol. Even from where i live in Worcester to Newcastle i would never consider unless there was a big party and i had a day off the next day to recover lol.

carlisle once came down to Exeter having borrowed Newcastle United's bus since they where playing at home and didn't need it. That gave us a shock at the ground. Errmm Who are we playing today again?

The Guardian’s David Conn talking on Sky News:
There’s a feeling of impotence in the European football associations because they believe Blatter is going to sail through and be elected. The idea of them pressing some sort of D-day and boycotting the world cup, I just cant see there being support for that.
It’s absolutely staggering – reading the indictment you could drown yourself with the detail, then you step back and think this is really happening and this is huge. In the past in general we’ve just had reports and rumours and investigative journalism.
[Fifa] feel that they’re not rocked by it. Blatter has got support by African football associations. In the world of Fifa it is not impossible that Blatter thinks in a few weeks time people will move on.
I don’t see the sponsors as any sort of key. For their own PR they have to say something like that this [condemn corruption] but having their name wrapped around the greatest sporting event in the world… I don’t recall a sponsor withdrawing in the past four or five years.

I heard a cool bus-story yesterday in an interview with Dortmund's driver. We played Fürth (archenemy of Nürnberg) in the German Cup and Gündogan (who was transferred from Nürnberg) scored the decider in the 119th minute. The team almost reached the airport that night when they got a call that Gündogan was still being interviewed in the arena. They forgot him there and had to turn around.

Hehe Fifa 16 will have women's teams, how are they going to work that in without being totally insulting.

i guess that would be up to the owners, someone is always willing to buy a sports team. but if the owner is fine with losing money then he doesnt have to close shop. im assuming like most NFL/NBA etc owners, the football club is not the main business for the football club owner. so if they are ok to lose money on football and can cover it with their main business that's great, but for most NBA/NFL etc owners, it seems that they do not like to lose money on their sports teams. and i dont think either side is right or wrong, its just a personal view.
