This indy team is missing a lot more pieces than I thought why not? he is their franchise quite literally. Because I'm against paying any player more than 20 mill a year, and the fact that when you overpay the QB's you usually get a team with a pretty good offense and a lot of missing parts. Guy's gotta get paid cuz he's damn good but is he really the best player in football/does he warrant the deal they are talking about? this is absurd wow how did I miss this In his third year, the dude threw up damn near 4800 yds and 40 tds. That is with about half a season of starting a goddamn awful rb who put up 3.3 ypc with his qb going bonkers (seriously, Richardson is AWFUL--how can you be that bad when teams aren't even pretending to stack the box) He did that with TY Hilton being his only genuine weapon. Wayne is awesome, but over the hill. Moncrief might be something eventually but he's nothing special right now. Fleener is about as goofy as he is ugly. He would have 200+ more yards if he wasn't such a bumbling retard. Luck should be getting daily foot rubs from him since he made that dude's career. long story short, Luck is at the very worst going to be a top 5 qb for the forseeable future (imo, him and Rodgers are going to be the new Manning/Brady for the better part of the next decade. Wilson will probably be like Romo if they open up that offense more when lynch leaves). He absolutely deserves whatever payday is coming his way, and from a $ perspective, whatever they sign him to now is going to be middle of the pack money in 5, maybe as little as 3 years. You pay that money if you know you will be top 5 at the most important position. 25 mill a year is just too much imo. Dude's making 3.4 mill in 2015 and maybe you can front load some FA signings if you keep that in place, but you made the same point I was trying to make in that the offense is below average around him and the defense lacks any real stars. Being in the top third of the league for an extended period is pretty rough to navigate because they literally get what comes to them in the draft. I just see this team being the same as it was with Peyton where there's regular season success and a playoff win or two but never a real contender. Other "top" QB's like Rodgers (which you mentioned and is probably the best comparison) are getting 20-22 mill on average throughout their contract. That extra 3-5 mill gets you an upgrade at probably 2 positions? It just feels like the Colts gave up too much leverage in the talks if this is how it actually plays out and he averages 25 mill a year... Inflation means that the average yearly salary goes up for all qbs. That's why you had people bugging out when middle of the pack guys like Alex Smith Eli and Cutler got big deals since they were making almost as much or more than better qbs who signed a few years earlier. With Luck, they are buying up prime years, where he will most likely have his best stats and have the best chance of getting the biggest contract possible. It would be a crazy game of chicken to force him to play out his contract when he's clearly outplayed it. Why risk pissing him off, having him throw 40+ Tds again and say fuck you I want 30 per? Luck making 3.4 just means he is insanely underpaid, and that the team hasn't done a whole lot while having oodles of cap space. Not every team managed to time have their franchise qb blossom while the team around him is at its peak like Seattle. Considerin the importantce of the position, it is foolish to go back to square one rather than paying your elite talent. And as demonstrated, you inevitably have to pay your qb, even the average-above average crowd. Outside of the year Dilfer farted his way to a champtionship there really hasn't been a cheap crappy qb who has won. Makes more sense since I looked up the cap increase for the past two years. I was thinking back to the 120->120.6 increase thinking it had grown similarly, not by 10+million. Deals fine then but I still see Indy getting in the "playoffs but not a contender" situation. So many holes.

I agree that they were the only real super bowl contender left and it likely didn't change the outcome of the game. I just wasn't sure what kind of punishment this would warrant. I see people saying fines or lost draft picks but no one seems to know how much. I guess we have to wait for the official explanation of everything

Robert Kraft wipes his ass with 25k... The shitty reality of the situation is the league really has no viable punishment for this unless they really go all out and overboard which they won't. A couple of draft picks might sting but not that big of a deal as the pats have good scouting(Insert spygate joke here) and with that you can always find steals in late rounds.

EDIT: It is pretty telling that the news haven't broken on NFL.com - protecting the brand is more important than punishing a repeat cheater who now as a consequence is in the title game. Any other sport and that would have been severely punished/disqualification.

Your implied allegations against Chris Mortensen (that he cooked up the 11 out of 12 number as well as the unofficial quotes from the league) who is usually a very reliable source are kinda funny when you at the same time preach innocent until proven guilty. Say what you want about the integrity of journalism, but I doubt he would be long employed by the ESPN if he fabricated stories.
