Like igne said, sports drink, and they usually make you eat something before they let you leave anyway, so that's no problem. @ tofucake wow. 160 is definitely the high end for crossfit gyms. Most of them around here are 90-120, and it's pretty standard that they offer EMS discounts to varying degress. The best one around only charges 80 for EMS/Fire/Police, 160 is crazy expensive. The coaches at the place I go to are really good. The injury incidence is quite low too. And my area (Philadelphia suburb) is pretty expensive anyway. The alternatives in the city (if I ever move there) start at $220. Also, I'm not a student, child, couple, in the armed forces, or an emergency worker, so I don't get any discounts. I'm definitely biased, and perhaps my criticism is more leveled towards untrained Crossfit, but I still think folks would do better to work with conventional training modalities. That's mostly bad coaches. I've watched my coaches stop people whenever they do something improperly, and none of them ever suggest a person does anything beyond their ability (most of the time people are recommended to scale down, actually).

IIRC they've even started going after gyms that offer "X-fit", "Cross______", and other similar plays on the name. IDK how much they enforce it or even how much they CAN enforce it outside the US. It's a $3,000 annual fee for the license to use the crossfit name. There was a case in Mexico not long ago, Crossfit sued this guy for exceeding terms of his license and offering unauthorized franchises to 25 fitness centers in Mexico. So yeah they can enforce it lol.

I also work once a week at a crossfit gym, and the injury rate is very low. Even less than most of the weightlifting clubs in the area.

To everyone in general. Just squat as low as you can (at least well below parallel) especially in the novice/intermediate stages. Just do it. It is only going to help you. Every rep. Do it. You'll never have to finish a rep or set silently thinking to yourself "that was probably low enough...". People will probably stare at you like your a barbell ninja but w/e.
