Its because people call another sport "football". Real football, or soccer if you insist, is the most beautiful game ever created. It is physical, tactical, explosive, and at the same time its elegant and sexy. 90 minutes of trying to outmanouver your opponent, 45 x2 with no commercials between "plays". Why call it soccer? Its football and not only was it here first, it is also the biggest sport there is. Blasphemy I tell you! Edit: obviously this is written with an extreme bias towards my big love, real football.

Americans tend to ignore the culture of other countries for various and understandable reasons but at least pretend you have the respect for the game and the passion while not favouring your own habbits. Talk however you want when amongst americans but when talking to international people/communities it's football!

The word Soccer originated in England where the Sport was created. It's almost as if you think other parts of the world that use a different word describing the same sport can't enjoy or even respect the game "you" and others of your mentality believe almost as if you are at higher level.

You can enjoy and respect everything you want and it has the same quality as the joy and respect of any other people on the world but just as you say it, you shit on the respect towards other cultures and don't even get that it annoys these people. What kind of reaction do you expect?

What kind of reaction do you expect? For some reason you associate the disrespect of culture to a word that is used to describe the exact same fucking thing, a sport. It is not just used in the US, also Canada and even used in Oceania as well.

Now imagine if the Germans (or any other nation) had a sport called German Football or similar, your nation may very well have referred to Football as soccer too. I do want to say that at one point the nations should have stopped slapping Football on their own rules and just came up with a different name lol. Makes no sense to call something Football when you hardly use your feet.

Also the commercial to actual sport ratio isn´t to my liking.

I hate it with a vengeance. When I'm watching some highlights with Spanish commentary I'll turn off the sound just because of it. For it's always the same thing, even when the goal is really scrappy or unexiting. They'll even do it at 6-0, ridiculous. Show some real emotion.

Talk however you want when amongst americans but when talking to international people/communities it's football! This is complete B.S. It would be like telling the English to stop calling fries chips "because it's disrespectful" or any number of other countless examples. It's a widely used word and everyone knows what we're referring to when we say soccer. There is no disrespect going on in the "soccer vs. football" situation. We are referring to the exact same sport and the word soccer has absolutely zero insulting or derogatory implications along with it. Gridiron football is a descendant of both rugby football and association football, hence the name.
