Everyone should be mindful of cultural differences, it goes both ways. Unfortunately the sports fanatic isn't exactly the most "understanding" and "culturally mindful" type.

When i gave my example i did mean to imply that the opposite would be true also.
One thing we can all agree on, the S word is banned :D
My view is, Football is Football due to over 3/4 population play it, compared to just the 100million Americans play American Football. Thus the rest of the world win in le debate.
I just call it soccer here because I cant stand having to explain which one im talking about, and I have to make the effort because football just slips out every so often.

Couple of important/big games from the South American/North American qualifiers tomorrow. USA vs Mexico, Mexico in need of points and America could do with a win to get them back to top spot.
Uruguay vs Columbia should be a good game, Uruguay need all the points they came to try and get an automatic place into Brazil 2014 instead of a play off spot (which is where they currently stand)
Paraguay vs Argentina, Argentina are all but there in Brazil 2014, but with Paraguay still having a "faint" chance of getting a play off spot im sure they will be going all out to try and win this game.
Also any Americans care to say why the fuck you kick off at 6minutes past the hour? 0.O

I agree. Normally I couldn't care less about the nomenclature, but this is an international forum and Football is called Football (Futbol, Fußball, футбол, ποδόσφαιρο etc.) by the majority of people playing this game.
You can call it soccer in your own little corner of the world, but stick to international convention when talking to broader audiences.
USA vs Mexico might just be the most interesting game of the next qualifier games. I wonder if Mexico can show a good performance for a change, it would be a huge upset if they missed top3 in the group.
Italy just need to win vs czech today and then they are qualified for WC2014. Germany and Netherland can do it too today but need help from other countries.
A gang of 30 hooded Ukrainians armed with knives target England supporters in a Kiev coffee shop attack
A group of England football fans have been attacked in Kiev ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine, local media reports. Around 30 hooded Ukrainians armed with knives brawled with England supporters in a coffee shop, the Komsomolskaya Pravda reported. The attackers then fled, and no-one has been arrested. Three of the England fans were taken to hospital – one with a stab wound, one with a head injury, and a third with severe bruising. It is understood two of the supporters have been released from hospital. Amateur video showed one of the injured men lying on the pavement with other people attending to him while police and ambulances arrived. The Foreign Office said: "We are aware of incidents in Kiev involving British nationals. We are providing consular assistance." The Three Lions will take on their Ukrainian opponents in Kiev's Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night. A win for England would move them to within touching distance of a place in next summer's finals in Brazil.
Dammit, i used to talk to someone from Ukraine, and he was all about the "fights" pre football games, but he always said its never with weapons nor do they carry on targeting you if you fall to the ground. He said there were basically unwritten rules of, you fall to the ground your off limits and "out". Then no weapons being the other one. Just straight up fighting between opposite fans, theres lots of youtube clips of it im sure.
No idea why they would of done this 30, people stabbing fans in a bar just seems so stupid. Sad times >.<
A football team's masseur ran on to the pitch and saved a certain goal to secure his team a place in the play-off semi-final of Brazil's fourth division.
The Aparecidence employee sneaked on to the field with the score locked at 2-2 and opponents Tupi looking sure to score a last-minute winner.
He appeared to prevent two goal-bound shots crossing the line, before clearing the ball from danger.
Match officials apparently took no action and the masseur could be seen sprinting away as furious Tupi players aimed kicks at him, before escaping through a door into the stands.

well remembering the english fans from the WC 2006 in my hometown I can definitely imagine how the violence can escalate.
Most of our stupid fans are banned though. Can you explain what you saw from 2006? My knowledge of what we are like is from matches i go too which is just normally loud banter (ie singing songs and drinking alot in big groups)

these stupid rules should be fixed ffs i remember some years ago there was a video of a match, where the ballboy, instead of giving the ball to the keeper, put it on the grass and scored lol and the referee refused to disallow it
