I'm thinking if he was driving one of the redbulls, he'd be very close to vettel in terms of points and speed. He has around half the points of Kimi, he wouldn't be anywhere near Vettel in pace or points. Ricciardo can count himself extremely lucky to be in the top team next year when guys like Hulkenberg are struggling to find a decent drive. Great job and a huge congratulations for Seb though, I feel this season he has been the best driver on the grid and very much deserving of the title. I just hope it is his last He had a poor first half of the season, so it's unlikely he would have been close, but he's challenging Kimi in qualifying and the race for pace. He's come good now, but he would be nowhere near Vettel overall across this season. Next year if he was in the same car and he can carry his good performances, maybe he would be.

I don't think Kimi is anywhere near the big three either myself, which shows just how much Grosjean would need to improve. Hopefully the Hulk gets the Lotus drive because he will smash Big John into dust. They need to find money from somewhere though or I can see the Lotus board going with Maldonado for the 35m euro he would bring. That is a huge amount of points Hulkenberg (or any non pay driver) would need to score to justify his selection.

Alright race, tyres made it a bit more interesting but DRS wasn't very well implemented and I don't think ever has been... Worked too well for some, and not at all for others.
Thought it was pretty hilarious that Pirrelli were angry with teams for going longer than they recommended, on saftey grounds... What ever that's suppose to mean.
Looking back the tyres have totally dominated nearly every race or F1 event this season, it's crazy the situation that we are in at the moment. I really hope for 2015 they introduce 18" wheels to give some more structure to the actual tyre that might help and Pirrelli need to work on a compound that drivers can just drive on without having to worry about them exploding or being totally ruined in two laps.

Pirelli can make tyres that would last the whole race, they just aren't being told to. The problem is that the FIA or Bernie decided to introduce this tyre stuff to make the racing "more exciting" and they have so far failed entirely to get it right because they don't know what they want.

Vettel showed today those tires can take at least 3 doughnuts after the race btw he was fined 25k euros for doing that

So Newey has 10 WCCs, Patrick Head has 9, Bob Bell and Ross Brawn have 8, Rory Byrne and Chapman have 7. What other designers are up there?

I've been avoiding this thread this weekend because I couldn't watch the race live and I didn't want any spoilers. But congratulations Sebastian Vettel, thoroughly deserved. I don't know why he gets so much flak in England but we've been through that argument before and we don’t need to revisit it.
The race wasn't the best so I don't have a whole lot else to say about that.
The new regulations next year could well mix things up a bit and that’s probably a good thing as Red Bull seem to be starting to dominate at the moment. We have been so lucky in recent years except this year and 2011 we have had some very close title races. Been as it is a manufactures and development sport too it is always going to be the case that some years are going to be dominated by one team who have just built a better car. That’s just the nature of the sport. But it’s definitely more exciting when we get a good competitive drivers championship as well. That’s what I hope for above all else next year. Not that we’re done this year yet. I expect some good fun racing yet even if the championships are tucked up.

Indeed. It's quite deliberate that the tyres fall apart. It's meant to and often has made for exciting races. They have got it wrong a couple of times to. But it must be quite hard to get the right amount of falling apart. Not enough and people complain about a boring 1 stop race to much and it rapidily becomes dangerous.
|
They should just reintroduce refuelling. Fuck safety.
It doesn't matter how good or bad the tyres are, if they are the only reason to stop it's always going to be optimum to drive at 75% and manage the tyres. If they make the tyres more durable under the current rules you'll just see people pacing themselves for 1 stops instead 2 or 3.
If it's optimum to 3 stop due to fuel weight then you may as well give them some reasonably durable tyres and let them destroy them if they can with pure pace.
|
Next year will be even worse because there's a limit to the maximum amount of fuel you can have, so people are going to pace themselves for the entire race just to make sure they finish.
|
Looks like Ross Brawn is leaving Mercedes, for Lewis Hamiltons sake I hope they can persuade him to stay for at least next year.

Okay so here's what's going to happen.
Kimi just said to Finnish TV that he has received 0 Euros this season from Lotus and was convinced to race this weekend only on short notice. More to come in interview on F1show later.
Hulk, who already had a Ferrari contract in his hands, just without signature because Kimi became an option for Ferrari, will get a different contract with Ferrari which guarantees him a seat at Sauber for 2014 with the Ferrari-option for 2015 once the Fernando-Kimi-fallout hits. The McLaren rumors fit and Fernando replaces Button, who said he only wants 1year contracts anyway, when he ends his career in 2014.

Kimi under investigation, floor failed a flex test at scrutineering, might be DSQ for quali. May be able to avoid a penalty if his Lotus team can prove that the floor's flex has been caused by damage Grosjean faced a similar failed test at Hungary, but avoided a penalty after Lotus was able to prove that the test was failed due to an unforseen damaged part

Kimi DSQ from qualifying, has to start the race from back of the grid. French journalist Antoine Arlot and radio RMC tell Grosjean lost 0.6s in last lap because of a gearbox problem...more Lotus problems
|
I'm fucking pissed. ~_~ Kimi has to be so frustrated now.
|
They got a penalty because the same thing already happened to Grosjean, who got excused as it was due to kerb damage. This time Kimi got penalised on the basis that it's already happened before and Lotus should have fixed the car to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
So in a way it is partly Lotus' fault for not fixing the issue that caused it, but also Kimi's fault for driving over kerbs too aggressively.

The AD gp is such a shame, they built an amazing place and have such a poor track for motor-racing, only place's to over-take are the two DRS zones...
But a disappointing race nothing to get excited much about... the rest of the season has so little appeal the only thing that's keeping my interest is Ferrari Vs Merc for 2nd place in the constructors..
|
Most people seem to miss that there's lots of other stuff going on just because one person has already won the championship. Pretty much every other spot was hard fought and close, if you pretend it's a 21 car race then it's fine.
