The only acceptable "gamification" of F1 should be fair and equal to all drivers involved, such as having a limited number of DRS uses when the driver chooses to use them, such as boosts in other motor racing which can be used a limited number of times per race. DRS as-is is a complete pile of crap. DRS is like a Mario Kart red shell or blue shell. They are fine... in Mario Kart. But F1 isn't MK. At least it hasn't reached the height of British Touring Car absurdity where for the third race of a race weekend meeting, pole position is literally drawn by lottery.

Track modifications are difficult and time consuming and don't necessarily add an element of driver skill and it's impossible to predict if they will work. DRS works - creates action and requires driver skill.

I think DRS detection should require that a car is behind at multiple DRS detection zones (at different corners/straights). For example at Monza, I say to get DRS, a driver should be within a second at the exit of ascari, before parabolica, and in the middle of parabolica. Otherwise, neither driver should get DRS.

I don't like DRS myself but I understand why they put it in. I am hopeful that the larger KERS units should help next year. My main gripe with F1 atm though is that the drivers are not pushing because the quickest way is to potter around at 75%. This year at Monaco every driver down to last place set the exact same sector time about 10 laps in the race, that isn't F1, it isn't even motorsport.

drs ruined the sport because it doesnt do anything except help faster cars go even faster; it allows cars with naturally faster aero packages take their 'rightful' places with no-skill overtaking, on these exceedingly-lame ass tilke tracks. drs is only useful when you have two cars of similar speeds and times, unfortunately that is almost never the case in f1 anymore.

Alonso-hamilton spa (hamilton knew Alonso would get him with DRS so he ran wide on purpose to get DRS; at the end, Alonso was ahead anyways but losing a position intentionally is ridiculous)

DRS is supposed to replicate the effect of the slipstream. In modern F1, the slipstream is not effective due to the incredibly dirty air that shreds your tires and actually slows you down unless you are significantly faster anyway. Grosjean/Webber scenario from last week is a perfect example of this. Webber had DRS and the 'better car' but still had to properly execute a pass on Romain. "No skill overtaking" is rare and in most of those cases would happen anyway. Some of the Tilke tracks produce excellent racing - Sepang, Shanghai (with DRS), Korea (in and out of DRS zones), Turkey, and Texas. Abu dhabi is pretty bad and Valencia and Bahrain are atrocious (limitations of the space). Marina Bay (Singapore) has been interesting.

I'm saying the concept of DRS is ridiculous as it is currently implemented.

I'm thinking if he was driving one of the redbulls, he'd be very close to vettel in terms of points and speed. He has around half the points of Kimi, he wouldn't be anywhere near Vettel in pace or points. Ricciardo can count himself extremely lucky to be in the top team next year when guys like Hulkenberg are struggling to find a decent drive. Great job and a huge congratulations for Seb though, I feel this season he has been the best driver on the grid and very much deserving of the title. I just hope it is his last ![]()
