in a vacuum, i think that was too much for nash. but slats addressed it with the Gabby trade. I think the roster as is now would be fine with 82 games to get used to each other.
my point is that it seems kind of silly to have to do this when we know that the rangers team last year was good enough for the ECF
Yup, last year I thought the Rangers were one of the best defensive teams in the league.

My feeling with the Rangers the past few years is that they will always play close games, and are shit out of luck if they don't have their top line going. Also, based on the ridiculous style of shot-blocking, you had to figure players would get injured at some point. By getting Nash, they got a player who could operate in Torterella's style - which Gaborik simply could not. The trip to the ECF was a good run, but that roster was unlikely to compete for a cup again.

They were last year as well. I mean, there is more to defense than throwing your face in front of a shot obviously, but it is a lot easier to find guys like that to play in front of your all world goalie and great defenders. their defensive prowess stems from that foremost. any of mcd, girardi, mdz, staal could easily slot in the top 4 or even top 2 on most teams.
what was hurting the rangers early on was the forwards they used to replace dudes lost. dubi was horrible as far as scoring last year. but from the third, he hate up all the ridiculous hard minutes but still generated way more shots than he gave up. he drove possession. they tried replacing the 12-15m a night guys that him and arty would give with dudes who were nowhere near as good in any facet of the game.

yeah i agree. i think ottawa can hang with them if they win, but they can't come back from 3-1.

CBC guys cracking an egg of knowledge on everyone's face, "Well, whoever comes up on top in this game...it will be...well it will be really good for that team" lol

Mute. Mute. I love how they always state the obvious. Even the play-by-play commentators. No shit Sherlock! D;

Bahahaha! Suck it, Chicago!

Nyquist scored a pretty nice goal. Miller scored a classic hockey players goal. Beautiful.

Since those 2 quick goals Chicago has looked flat. Their forecheck is alot less tenacious and Detriot is out hitting them. I think the hawks are lucky the refs forgot their whistles at home too.
|
if you arent watching the game, just watching the stats, youd think the Wings are totally dominating. Outshooting, out hitting, out blocking and dominating at the dot and a smothering PK. The only thing the Wings cant do is score on the penalty.

nothing like a boarding that turns into a goal against you because the refs are retarded. NHL!

While watching the first game, I noticed that both teams seemed to be matched very evenly. Only seconds before the shorthanded goal sealing the game, Ottawa could have capitalized on that powerplay they were on, and made it a 3-2 game, with a good chunk of time left. The score was deceptive, both teams played very well overall.
And, based on the last 2 games, we know that Ottawa doesn't give up until the whistle is blown. They played fantastic in game 2, making one hell of a close game out of Crosby scoring a really quick hat trick, and, well, I'm sure you saw game 3 to see that even when they were trying to kill off a penalty in the dying minute of the game, they still managed to get a score to take the game into overtime. Both teams are playing very well, and seem to be very evenly matched.
Saying that they can't come back from a 3-1 is a little pre-emptive though. Did you not see what the Leafs did? Granted, they lost in the end, but they made one hell of a comeback vs the Bruins. They could have won the series, even though almost everyone counted them out.
It's not over until one of the teams gets their 4th win. That's the beauty of a best of 7 series, regardless of what sport/game you're playing.

I made that post with about 10 min of play having past from the 2 goals. it was as lopsided as the stats say.
Now its not lopsided but Chicago is looking a whole hell of alot better. Nice goal by Kane

Well I thought Chicago's 1st goal was bs but they def should of had the goal that was waved off LOL.

Yep. That was boarding. And that wasn't goalie interferance.
Wicked shot by whoever scored just now for Det. In and out so fast I though it hit the crossbar

Great game by the Red Wings. They are in total FU mode right now. It'd be sweet poetic justice for them to knock out the top two seeds as a 7th seed.

Why put out Bucknell when he has obviously been all frothing at the mouth to do something stupid....and he takes a penalty.
