Filipulla just earned his 5 x 10 years contract extension probably. That Flippula goal was nice. Definitely the "dagger" at the end of the game. I feel pretty smart right now not gonna lie, but Chicago didnt look particularly good. I think both teams will bring their A game Monday night(and hopefully the Wings still win).

Yeah, it's always important to remember how international hockey works - though I wouldn't put the Swiss up with the top tier. They are decent, but they probably lose 8 out of 10 games against the best teams. Their strong performances typically swing on a goalie standing on his head and playing a very frustrating style to compensate for the disparity in talent. International hockey tournaments are rarely won by the objectively 'best' team. Hence why I really dislike all of the "what went wroooooong?!?! media talk whenever the national team loses out in something. Nothing went wrong. 1) International hockey is very competitive at the top - the skill level between any of a handful of countries is very similar and each have a chance to win. 2) Hockey is the most random professional sport - your fortunes can come down to luck quite often over the short term. 3) It's one-and-out in the elimination rounds - one team may be better and win 4 out of 5 games but they only play one. It's a tough sport to have an emotional investment in...

The objective of this Pens team is to win the cup, not win 2 rounds, so yes you plan long term. Fleury is hot and cold, everyone knows this, and sometimes he bounces back with amazing performances. Whereas Vokoun, you sorta know what you have, he looked really similar in all the games, and sometimes his errors and rebounds are getting converted on and sometimes they aren't, that's why last game looked worse, when he's been similarly meh OK in all of them. Bylsma is an iffy (to be diplomatic, in my mind he's really bad) coach but when you have without a doubt the best players sometimes it covers that up and they make you look good, but then sometimes it doesn't (see last years playoffs, much of the islanders series). It feels like Bylsma loosened the reigns so much compared to the two cup runs it's barely recognizable, they play with arrogance instead of grit way too often. I mean, here's the situation now: we have a serviceable goalie who has never been a standout that we are just riding; and so far so good, but what if it doesn't continue, because he's never been Mr. I want to ride this guy to the cup? And behind him in case he needs backed up we have a total question mark who might need to be called on in who knows what game. Here's my situation that's improved: we see what we have in Fleury, someone who will rebound strong and come out with confidence on fire, someone who can be a serviceable backup, or a broken shell of a goalie. I mean, he's made cup winning saves in his career, he could still have that in him on the right streak. Now we know to what extent we need to ride Vokoun or not. By not putting Fleury back in we are riding someone who has never been "that guy" backed up by a total wild card who you can't trust. Seems like a great plan, nothing could go wrong there.

The 15% are not American; they are Czech, Slovakian, Finnish, and Dutch. If I had said 100% Canadian, than I would have meant that every single team member among those 19 who usually play is Canadian. Ok, but the way you phrased it made no sense. You say that 85% of the team is Canadian, then talk about the few players that are American, despite the fact that the post you responded to mentioned nothing about Americans at all. It makes it sound like you're saying that 85% is Canadian, and the rest are Americans.

That game vs Detriot is the first time since Colorado beat them that I have seen Chicago look bad. Detriot really took it to them. Hopefully that game gets both teams up and the next one is a gem!

Vokoun was a stud for many years, and on some shitty teams too. He's still been a pretty good goalie the past three years or so even though he's up there in age now. I have no idea why you describe him as never having been that guy. he was the starter in nashville for a number of years, and then florida. it is only last year that he started splitting time

What controversy? I'm sorry but the jury is already out. I'm sorry but that means the jury isn't back IN with a verdict doesn't it I didn't see any kind of agreement reached here in the last several pages re: Jason Spezza You being Resident Hockey Elitist is getting a little old
