Too dense to realize you insult, too dense to realize when someone returns the favor.

What does it even matter? The question amazes me. How would I know so much if I don't run? And what is the relevance anyway. Say I was born without legs, does reality change when I utter certain words because I don't run?

I see you didn't run for 9 years. Lol, so you don't run. So why post here?

Or too polite to rise to your flame bait.

Please stop being rude. You're making extraordinary claims with no evidence, and then taking passive-aggressive pot-shots at longstanding thread contributors who try to engage you in thoughtful dialogue.

You come across as a prick, so it doesn't matter if "you know so much".

I know what I was asking was originally a slight on you, and I know that your response was meant to be enticing. Contrary to what you say this isn't my first day on the internet. Those points are not relevant to the running conversation... I was hoping to get you to make running more personal instead of just regurgitating a bunch of shit you've read somewhere. Other people are trying to have a convesation with you but you don't give a shit, you just want to try to prove that you know more than everyone. It doesn't matter how smart you think you are, your pompous attitude makes all of your "knowledge" wasted to people looking for motivation to get healthy or to race better.

To your last question, I post here because running is about more than science, its about the community that comes with miles that I rack up, the continued hope that I stay motivated so that I don't go another 9 years. It's for the knowledge and advice that comes from guys like Bonham, L_Master, and Airblade. They've been through what I've been through, they share the same experiences.

Why are you here?

Edit: And enough of this, if you want to continue, fine, but I'm done.

Rupp wins again, will be exciting to see what he does in the 5k. Also, very excited for the men's 800M, reading the LetsRun preview paints a very exciting picture. The favorites have made it through the prelims, it will be go time on Sunday!

I can't stand LetsRun. It just seems like a clusterfuck of a website so I almost never go there. If you're familiar with it enough I'm curious as to if there are any good threads/sections that are worth keeping an eye on. I'm sure there is a lot of good info on the website considering how many people visit and contribute to it regularly but it frustrates me trying to navigate through everything there. I remember there being lots of terrible threads too.

You're right that the site is generally a total disaster -- both in terms of technology and general community. But if you know where to look there's some good stuff. I generally read the event previews and recaps, because the guys who run the site know track and field if not how to moderate discussion forums. I also post in the weekly road racing thread, which is full of positive and inspiring people. Pretty much everything else I've looked at is a cesspit of toxic trolling.

Agreed, I may look at the forum threads 1x a month if I have nothing better to do, and I usually do. ESPN doesn't do a very good job of keeping up with track and field outside the olympics, so I use it as my way to get running news. I read the daily quote, look for event previews and major happenings -- that's about it.

For anything else you wanted to use it for, you're outside my scope of use.

I just asked my brother and he suggested the training section. He said that there is some interesting stuff in there with intelligent people.

Yea LRC is...different. To put it nicely. The front page news is generally good, though sometimes there is an overkill of articles about doping/suspected dopers.

The forums on the other hand....that is where shit hits the fan. There is a ton of trolling, and a pretty decent amount of bashing of runners for random reasons. I'm convinced its the vocal minority though to overwhelming degree. What makes it fun is that there are occasional BIG diamonds in the rough. You just have to wade through tons of crud to find em.

I really dislike the BroJos attitude to the forums which is basically that they are perfect, and that total anonymity and unregistered handles make it so notworthy people sometimes post. Which has some merit. However, I don't see how registration stops that, as you can always make multiple handles, or allow verified "prominent" runners/coaches/ etc. to registr multiple accounts. The fact that they won't clean up their forum is disappointeing to. For instance you can't do nested quote or code bugs out...I made a thread about it and several people even offered to do the 10 min fix for free and BroJo response was basically "nah its all good, forum is fine as is".

@Don - mind is blown. How did you know I was in Paris? Did I post that somewhere and forget I did...or we you psychic? xd

@Komei - you raise some more points that should lead to some good discussion, and ill respond more when I am back stateside in a few days...writing these posts on mobile phone is too much of a pain XD.

MTA: So much I want to talk about with the trials too...but to wilm have to wait a few days.

Paris is an overrated city. Maybe not for tourists, but it's not such a great city to live in.
At least, you can find a lot of running tracks. And the Bois de Vincennes and Bois de Boulogne are decent places for longer runs.

You think I am a prick but you want me to be more personal?

I am trying to help people and inform them about known physiology.
What are you trying to achieve? Look cool in the eyes of the regulars?
If you don't want to talk about running and help newcomers, don't post.

Race day! Did a warmup of around 6k with some strides and one kilometre of near race-pace and felt ready to roll. Wound up finishing in 17:10, so I missed my sub-17 goal by a shade. Lots of hills on the course, especially on the dirt-trail second half, which didn’t help me any since I wanted to run a negative split.

Given those challenges, plus the fact that this came two days after a pretty good interval session, I feel pretty OK about a 17:10. Plus I won by a country mile, which is always kind of neat, and managed my emotions and my pacing much better than my race last month.

Making my season's goal race (32:30 10k on August 24th) will be a challenge, but I've been putting in lots of work and feel like it will pay off.

I just went running outside for the first time (since starting training). There is a nice quarter mile track at a nearby high school, but it is kinda hot today (upper 70s F and sunny). This was my first time doing anything active out in the sun this year so I think it reduced my performance somewhat (I also came pretty close to feeling sick, but luckily I kept hydrated and whatnot).

First I did four laps (one mile) at as steady of a pace as I could, and completed them in about 10:15. I rested and then I did a quarter mile at a faster pace, finishing in 1:45. In both cases I don't think I could have pushed myself much harder. This at least gives me an idea of where I stand (recall from my earlier posts I'm currently doing 30 minutes at 5mph when on the treadmill). So how long before I can do 1.5 miles in 12 minutes? XD

Congrats gents! Apparently this was a popular race Saturday! :-)

@micro: good stuff dude! Running outdoors, particularly in heat, always feels more taxing for me for whatever reason. I'd say you have pretty good benchmarks for your mile/400 time though. Now to build on and better them .

I'm near 100% confident you could run the quarter in 75s, probably more like 65-70s...unless you are especially overweight. If your legs didn't feel like jelly with 150m to go and taking all focus the last 50-100m to not totally lose form and/or fall...you left slot in the tank.

As far as the 1.5 mile, are you talking about an all out race, or being able to cruise it without dying?

Good job Bonham! I'm sure you will be on fire by the end of August.

I bet you could do 1.5 miles in 12 minutes right now Micronesia. If the pressure was on and you were in race/time killer mode you would do it. Keep it up!

bypLy, give us some more info on the race!
