We need the ability to make more threads on varying topics. i agree with that T_T would be amazing! Anyways I have been squatting light this last week. I feel amazing physically while i'm taking it more easy on my squats Front squat @ 195 going ass to grass. Like hammies and calves touching at the bottom. Is that bad? I tell my buddy at work about it and he is just like O_O Thats really bad for your knees big guy! Is it?? I feel fine at this lower weight at least... I recon if i want to start to train Oly lifts I better be comfortable in that position yes??
If you're doing it properly (keeping the knees out, weight on your heels) it's fine - from the reading I've done, deep squatting is better for the knees than stopping above parallel. When you stop high, all the force you're exerting to bring yourself up is on the same part of the knee. When you go deep, engaging the "hip drive" and all the posterior muscles balances out that force, changing where some of it is applied to. And yeah, if you want to get into Oly I'm quite positive you need to be able to front squat to rock bottom.
If we get to 10k posts in this thread without getting a forum.... I don't even know. It's been well over 150 pages since the forum leadership last talked about it. I don't want to say we need to remind them, but... we may need to?
Side note, I just saw some friends talking about hiking some of the high peaks next weekend. I can't believe I live as close to the adirondacks as I do and had never thought of that =(. I go back to school too soon to make it a reality right now, but by spring break (if I'm home), I'm definitely going to make it a goal to do at least two high peaks!

I have been reading some articles on simplyshredded.com and alot of the interviews on there have some kind of fat burner on their list of suppliments.
Im not too speedy to jump into it, but saw one person taking "Phenadrine" which ive heard some bad things about health wise. Is there any fat burners that dont have major health worries associated with them? I heard that Endoburn might be good?
I am considering taking this kind of suppliment once i get down to something like 190, had a killer work out today :D

Personally I'd say continue this conversation when you know for a fact that you are at a plateau where can't lose .001 of a percentage of body fat. Until then just do your work and eat right.....

L-arginine is in a lot of pre workouts. i think it gives you kinda tingly feeling.
Lift heavy and eat unprocessed food and you'll get ripped.

L-arginine is an Amino Acid that's in a TON of supplements, in particular the pre-workout "energy" supplements that are out there (Jack3d, N-O-Explode, CELL TECH, etc.) It's used in the body to do a bunch of things, but most importantly for Body Building purposes, it helps speed up recovery a little bit. That said, it's not anything to the extent that you need until you're a competition level body builder or power lifter. There's no supplement out there that's going to do more for you than a balanced diet and a good night's sleep.

Ok great, i didnt plan to use prework outs anyways as i feel lots of energy anyhow. What about fat burners, i dont plan to use any until i start to think im platueing, but i just want to educate myself if theres any decent ones any of you guys have used? Say i hit 15% body fat, something to help me with the last 5%

bdictkam, it's great that you're interested in getting healthy and motivated enough to do this research but I think it's quite clear that the past few messages have been trying to tell you to just keep things natural. Eat and lift hard. Plateaus are seriously far away from where you're at if you've only started recently. Don't over think it and just lift heavy. As for the body fat percentage, I believe that for most men, it's actually easy to hit the 12-10% range so long as their diets are good. I just wish I could find the sources of information that I've read that from.

after waking up today i've had some pain just around or sligthly above where my left glute (i think?)connects to the hip. it only occurs while "swinging" my leg forward and planting it on the ground while walking. currently at work using a shopping cart as a makeshift cruch
Edit: as long as i tense my glute a bit while walking i dont feel any pain.
Edit2: i can can still feel it, but i dont feel any pain. even if i walk normally

L-Arginine is a vasodilator, much like nitric oxide; it allows for better blood flow which will help you feel more alert, give you more of a pump, and provide better muscular endurance for your workout due to the increased oxygen delivery. I wouldn't really call it a diet supplement at all, it's just one you use or you don't.
Going from 15-10% bodyfat(which tbh is probably 20-15%, a legit 10% is pretty lean, most people underestimate their true level) you definitely don't need any dieting aides. In fact, if you're a newbie lifter, or even a not-advanced lifter, you can drop a ton of bodyfat while gaining lean mass because said lean mass is so easy for you to get right now. Save the worry about dropping bodyfat being difficult for when you're muscular and actually at risk of losing lean mass by improperly dieting.
The best thing you can do is go kill it in the gym and eat good stuff. Save your money for food or basic whey protein for now, maybe consider a simple pre/peri-workout supp like WMS.

I really liked jack3d but one thing I had to keep in mind was that it is carb free so I had to bring extra carbs with me on long sessions.
ECA-stack would be my bet if I were going to cut but I wouldn't reccomend it.
2 days until smolov starts....

Again, supplements really only help maybe a few percentage points on OVERALL results.
Bulk of results are going to be coming from: good sleep, good nutrition, good training, low stress levels.

In response to the dialogue about power cleans, I have a few curiosities. Mark Rippetoe teaches the power clean emphasizing the jump instead of the hip extension. You say it is incorrect to do the power clean as a jump, but that's how the author of SS teaches it in his videos. He says to drag the bar up the legs like a deadlift, and when it hits the high right above the knee to jump straight up with the shoulders shrugging. He emphasizes that all the power in the lift comes from the jump. Is this really incorrect?

had an awesome Breakfast! :D

The jump IS triple extension. Focusing on jumping is a good cue on how to perform a correct triple extension.
BUT the problem is if the weights are light enough you do not want to have an actual jump where the feet are coming off the ground. Having the feet come off the ground means less time to have the feet planted and move underneath of the bar.
It's a cue for one specific fault, but you're not actually supposed to jump such that you get height off of the ground. If you're doing that you're not doing it correctly.
