Secondly, wouldn't crossfit be fantastic for her? It's more concerned with getting fit, healthy and strongish than just getting huge and strong. It seems like a good formula. Also it's a group thing, so motivation is like 100x easier.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21722409 Basically saying that excessive protein intake ---> metabolic acidosis (wikipedia'd it, is terrible) which can be somewhat of a common argument, although I've never heard that it would cause that, only that your hair would thin out and all kinds of other stuff that I doubt is true. Anyways, it basically says that it can be offset by adequate mineral/vitamin intake, especially calcium (+1 for gomad) and potassium (+1 for bananas lol), along with weightlifting. Enjoy. @Dexx. No. Lol Pushups may last for awhile but once you can do more than 10, its something like endurance. There are a ton of better exercises out there. I'd argue the best exercise are deadlifts (but only because I like them more than squats lol)

Key is slowly (begin with much less) but steady. Don't miss anything, no excuse, otherwise you fail! That's all great for someone who's never exercised before... but at a certain point, pushups stop being effective because they can only make you so strong before you get "too good" at doing them. Don't be afraid to move on to weights man, it's awesome! got in to the gym today for a workout, tried out some front Squats. Really like them - got up to ~150 lbs for a set of five while I was waiting for the oly platform to open up... some guy was deadlifting on it. Can't hate him for it, he's only the second person I've seen deadlift at this gym =/. Unfortunately, when I actually got to do my powercleans, my lower back was shot from all the front squatting (must have done 5 or 6 sets?) and I couldn't get the proper extension, so I couldn't hit my planned increase in weight. Had to lower it a few kilos and just work that from, try to get that extension right. I'm really starting to love power cleans though, I'd love to start doing full olympic lifts sometime. the idea of "getting under the bar" instead of "getting the bar up to me" just sounds crazy. My thought process doesn't switch gears that quickly. Ah well, I'll look into it, and in the mean time I just need to get stronger anyway. Front squats are awesome though, I don't feel like I have any of the problems that I do back squatting. Going to practice those every once in a while. I really like the improved flexibility, and how easy it is to keep my back upright. Just got to figure out the best time to do them. -edit- @catch, yeah excessive protein intake is bad... but it has to get really excessive to be a problem. The kidneys are very good at what they do, which is removing things that shouldn't be in the body, from the body. Unless you've already got a problem with them, or you're eating a high protein diet AND drinking three protein shakes a day, you probably don't have too much to worry about. @BouBou, Crossfit looks really cool, but there's a lot of variation in programming from gym to gym, so you've got to make sure the one you're going to is a good one. As well, it's much more expensive than joining a regular gym and doing SS, or even a modified SS routine. Plus, a typical strength routine is going to put you more "in control" of your body before you get into the full body movements that are the C&J and the Snatch, so that you better understand it, end up with better form, and decrease your risk of injury.

Then that night i went to the bar, ran into a guy i was trying to get to play rugby, we're chatting and have a beer and then next thing i know we're joke wrestling turned into real fighting. On the bright side i managed to perform a double leg takedown on someone who has 70 pounds on me. On the down side after i got off him he choked me out. Meh. Next day played some golf. I think oly lifting is really helping my game..when i did hit the ball i was fucking crushing it farther than i have been before. This golf game was part of a bachelor party which ended up in one of the more ridiculous nights of my life lol. Drinking, strippers, fighting, fires, broken windows. I'm sure none of the above are very good for my "health and fitness" hahaha :D Practice weightlifting meet on saturday! should be good experience. Push ups (unweighted) at high reps with long distance running is a very sub optimal routine for pretty much anything. It will probably get you good at doing a lot of push ups, but you wont build any real strength/size/better body composition or really any of the benefits you get from heavy weight training. and HIIT > distance running for burning fat and conditioning.

Ask him nicely if he can move, dont really need the platform for deadlifts! And yeah i'm still wrapping my head around the concept of catching the bar. They should call it weight catching instead of weightlifting :-p

Only consitent incporporation in my working day (that is key). I am now around 78 Kg and feel great in a great body. You can do your thing and I do mine. ![]() Well what did you expect when you call your exercise the best... Beginner gains will always happen since you are just starting to exercise regularly. LoL, I am a beginner, whatever you know about me via the internet must be true.^^ I have been doing this for quite some time now (with some variations for years). Of course I have hit a plateau, but my objective is not to be a muscle giant. Being lean, feeling great and having a decent amount of muscles is enough for me. On a side note, I think I will swap Overhead Press with Incline Bench for a month, and also start practicing snatches (I don't think my anatomy allows any sort of cleans).

I recommend you replace back squats with front squats on your 2nd workout of the week (so on wednesday, assuming a monday/wednesday/friday split) gives your posterior chain a little rest so you squat heavy again in the 3rd workout On August 08 2011 07:06 Dexx wrote: LoL, I am a beginner, whatever you know about me via the internet must be true.^^ I have been doing this for quite some time now (with some variations for years). Yeah, that's a bit excessive.... Maybe if you're cutting for a bodybuilding competition. But that's the only time I would go that high with protein. ------------------------------- edit: Also, don't feed the trolls.

I feel fine at this lower weight at least... I recon if i want to start to train Oly lifts I better be comfortable in that position yes??

You can try bouncing out of the bottom in the squat, since it will carry over for the clean.

You don't want to put them on slack and then reengage them because that is tough on your joints. Utilizing a bounce with the muscles is fine and normal (stretch-shorten cycle occurs naturally during lots of activities like running) because tension is kept on the joint which keeps it from being jerked around.
