Unless you plan on rendering and converting a bunch those builds are really meh. Much better to skimp like 100 bucks and use it on the gpu. Unless crossfiring 290x's, cpu is rarely a bottleneck in gaming. Edit: in my haste I totally forgot about amd fx series. Go with that instead of A series. Fx 6350 should be price equivalent. | ||

There are some virtually unwinnable scenarios like sun or asteroids+unlucky hit in your first map but if you can survive the first sector I don't find that the game gives too much resistance. I have played with all the Engi, Zoltan, Mantis, Fed and the basic one ships. Not sure if any of them are considered weak? Actually, the game becomes quite difficult if you do not ever pause.
